I'm glad you love the shirt so much Rob! I have to admit- being both a PJ and Giants fan I'm a bit envious- but not enough go through all that to get one!

And your Giants room- WOW! Totally awesome! Go Giants!

You know i never told you this story, but back in 1996 i believe, lol i was at a Dodger game sitting about 5 rows back of home plate, Bonds comes up to bat, i start giving him crap. Sorry don't hate me for it! Well i must have said to much, he turns looks my way, then what do you know he hits a homerun... I did not say another thing to him, let alone anyone else that game.

    Hi Rob

    Sophie says hi as well.

puppies want to chew EVERYTHING!

I got an interesting package today....HEAVILY reinforced with duct tape......then newspaer, then bubble wrap, then a plastic bag, then a paper bag. as soon as I felt the bottle cap, I went "whew!" because I don't do wine  . my buddy Halifax2TheMax (who apparently lives in rhode island :wtf:  ) sent me a nice big bottle of Ass Kisser Double IPA. It's chilling as we speak. H2TM has been a great friend. he's sent cards, books and other stuff to keep me on the up and up. just another great person on this board.

I'm feeling pretty good these days but anxious about aug. 30. Kelley told me to focus on sept. 26 (vancouver).....but I gotta get thru aug. 30 first. I'll try to get word to someone here, as soon as the drugs wear off ;) .

So I know Rob likes beer and I also know you can't give up everything when you're kicking cancer's sorry little ass, so I decide to send him a bottle of beer. I think I'll try and find one of those Trapist monk/firefighter, home brew beers and package it up nice and sweet and send it off. I mean the guy deserves a beer, right?

So I go to my local packy and look for one of them there Trapist monk/firefighter beers but I see instead, "Ass Kisser IPA." I look at it, pick it up off the shelve, ponder a tad wee little bit and say, Rob has to have it! I mean, who's been kissing some ass and who's been kicking some ass? So in my little Rhode Island mind I think, it's perfect with keeping with the Save The Pooper theme and fuckin' and shit' and all so I buy it.

I go home and box it up in a Corona 12 pack box, I know, Corona but hey I went through a phase and have a bunch of the empty boxes in my basement and the damn, 24 ouncer fit, okay? And as Rob so aptly described, I very carefully wrapped it in a paper bag like a wino would use, placed inside a newspaper bag, wrapped it in small bubble bubble wrap and then large bubble bubble wrap. Stuck it inside five plastic shopping bags, duct taped it shut and put it in the box with newspaper, a comic paper called the Funny Times and a personal note. Ted Kazinzski, the Unibomber, I'm not. Sealed the box up with some silver duct tape, added an address label and off to the post office I went.

Well, I patiently stand in line with my Corona box (I know) with the silver duct tape on it and wait to get called up to ship it off. I finally get called after a few minutes and the lady behind the counter says, "Ah, you can't ship that in a box with the liquor label showing." I say, "really?" She says, "yup." I ask why and she goes into postal regulations and if you're shipping alcohol you have to have a license, blah, blah, blah. So I leave.

I get home and decide, I'll be damned, there's terrorists shipping exploding printing cartridges and all I want to do is ship a beer. So I wrap the freaking Corona box ( I know, Corona?) completely in silver duct tape except for a couple of plain old cardboard side spaces that didn't have any reference to alcohol or beer or anything and go back to the post office. But his time its Saturday and I get the passport window. When they ask, "anything liquid, fragile or hazardous" I say no. Then they give me the next day, two business days, first class or slow boat around the Panama Canal prices and I choose the 7 to 10 days as I figure this is going by truck and no chance my carbonated gift is going to explode mid flight, right? So, off it goes on the 7 to 10 day journey.

I go on vacation, (and while on it, the only post I checked in the forum was this one as my shitty work phone sucks for surfing the net and I had no interweb access where I was but wouldn't you know Rob had me laughing. Damn.) I come home and Rob PMs me saying he received a soggy box smelling like beer. I think, Shit! the postal inspector is going to be knocking on my door. Well, Rob, as his post attests, received the package and I'm glad he got it. But man, can the USPS lighten up a bit. I mean, all I was trying to do was send a beer to a guy I don't even know but who I care about and what happens to him and trying to help him through a tough time by keeping his spirits up all because he and I both love Pearl Jam. And because this is one hell of a community that looks after each other, in small and large ways. The Unibomber, I am not.

So Rob, how was the beer?

I know you're thinking about August 30th and all and I have to tell you, and I have no personal experience with this so for what its worth, treat it as any other date and know you'll be fine. Easier said than done and easy for me to say but I truly believe it. Its just one more stupid ass block in your way to KICKING CANCER"S FUCKING SORRY ASS! And keep Vancouver in your thoughts and in your sights and in your mind. That's where you need to be. Vancouver. And you'll be there. I know it. Just don't overturn any cars or light bon fires in the streets, okay?

Peace, love and a big ol' dose of POSITIVE CHI coming your way but particularly on the 30th.

PS: If i can ever figure out the interweb thing and posting pics, a couple of the Ass Kisser IPA and the STP wristbands coming to a forum near you. Peace.

Remember this? And now you leave for Vancouver! Rock your ASS off, have a few beers for me, safe travels and know we'll be thinking of you. Enjoy the show Rob, you deserve it!

Peace and positive Chi your way.

why would I post this here? well, there are some really great people on this board. you've helped me with the death of a dog, a cancer diagnosis with a subsequent dog, music and video stuff, travel info....all kinds of shit. hell, one member even let me crash on his couch  ! the few members I have been fortunate enough to meet have been uniformly cool.

this board is a release for most of us, I think. some of us may adopt a little bit of a persona but, even with that, I think/hope the true person shines thru. in my case...no, that's not me in my avatar. it's michael phelps, the olympic swimmer. I only mention this because of all the "oh go hit your bong" comments I get  . anyway, here's who I am:

I'm old  . I first heard TEN when I was 35 fricking years old and was hooked. just last year I RETIRED from 25 years with Las Vegas Fire Dept. before that, I framed houses. I retired, got the hell out of vegas and moved to salt lake city last august. things were/are great (except for the obvious). I love salt lake, have a great wife, a pyscho dog and good friends. I have a new house (filled with PJ posters  ), I work a little part-time job at a golf course and see as much live music as I can. The SF GIANTS are World Champs and just beat the d**gers AGAIN. My hair's getting long again, like it was in the 70s  . we have enough money and everything was/is cool. then, this:

After pooping blood for months and losing weight at an alarming rate, I went to see an internal medicine guy. He sent me for a colonoscopy. I had that done on May 10. He found a "plum sized" mass in my lower colon (almost rectal). At the time, he surmised it was cancer. Pathology confirmed it. I had a CT Scan two days later and, thankfully, the cancer hasn't spread.

Yesterday, I met with a colon-rectal surgeon, a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist. The surgeon did a (painful) ultrasound and graded my cancer a Stage II due to some involvement of the surrounding muscle. Lymph nodes are clear. The plan is to get a porta-cath implanted this Monday (for 24/7 chemo infusion), start radiation on Tuesday and chemo on Thursday. I'll do that for 6 weeks to try to shrink the mass and kill any cancer around it. Then, I'll take 8 weeks off and have the fucking thing removed at the end of September. Should be a 4 hour operation. After the operation, I may or may not do another 6 months of chemo.

It is what it is. I'm not thrilled to have colon cancer but I'm not defeated either. They said I have about a year of crap to look forward to (although the math doesn't add up). All I know is, my chemo pump is not going to look good with my summer Speedo

I'm not a religious guy, but if anyone wants to pray for my full recovery, go right ahead. Sending good vibes is definitely encouraged. I am CONVINCED they helped my doggie. I hope you guys respect my/our decisions for the course of treatment. I'm good with my it, as is my great wife.

I'll end this soul baring on a light note.....when I got the news (one week ago), one of my first thoughts was the EV show I have tickets for. not life, not death...eddie vedder! it should be cool...I'll be between chemo and surgery. and then yesterday, I had the surgeon do the math on when my surgery would be. he said "end of September." I told him I needed to see PJ in Canada. He said we'll put it off until October and then asked "can I go with you?":lol: hopefully, I'll run into some message pit buddies at the shows.

Take care of yourselves and, if you've old like me and have been putting one off, GET A COLONOSCOPY!!!!!

    Rob
