Social media is definitely a large factor in what's wrong with the fandom. However not having any real plan for this trilogy is what doomed it from the start. JJ started one story, Rian told another one. That falls ultimately on Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy.
Also, I don't think the Skywalker saga needed concluding. If you wanted to continue it, fine, but it pretty much ended already on Endor. To insist that it needed a conclusion and that you were going to provide that conclusion without having an idea of what that conclusion was going to be was basically malpractice.

saw an 8:30 show this morning. It was a big theater but only like 1/4 full (if that) which was kinda odd but i'm glad there wasn't too many people there. Overall I enjoyed it a lot actually. It was very emotional for me. I teared up quite a few times.

Thats not really what happened though. They werent reacting to fans for each film.
They should have created some strange pass-the-baton story with different writers and directors. It was disjointed. You could tell that Abrams crammed the first half-hour into transitioning from whatever the hell The Last Jedi was into his vision for the 3rd movie.
The problem was disjointed and incoherent story-telling. The Last Jedi was by far the worst and it stunted this trilogy. I would have loved to see Abrams' entire vision/story for the trilogy

Same here. I absolutely loved it. I might go: 9, 7 and then 8.

Glad I wasn't the only one that teared up. I was the last to leave the theatre as I wanted to recompose myself and dry my eyes. The last scene got to me.

I have a 5 year old who loves star wars, even though he can’t really follow any stories. He just likes spaceships and lasers. Will this be too much for a little kid who’s really only seen the original 3? Too much as scary scenes or things like that?

i would say no, it is rated PG-13 . Agree with McGruff in seeing it first then decide.

Traveling this week for Christmas but already have tickets to see it again next Sunday. Looking forward to it and curious to see how it holds up on a second viewing.
It’s not the violence that’ll do him in; it’s the boredom.
You didn’t like it?
Almost every fan theory that I read about since the last one wound up on the screen. How fucking lazy do you have to be? They took the Game of Thrones approach and just let the fanboys write the story for them.
I liked that they at least kept the Ben and Rey connection from The Last Jedi.
But I was pretty damn bored just watching all the bad ideas I read on the Internet happen on the screen.
The kids liked it, though, and that’s really who these movies are for.

Chewy should’ve stayed dead.
I didn't read, worry about, nor stew in any fans' theories, so maybe that's why the movie was somewhat enjoyable to me?
SPOILER BELOW And yes, kind of a cop-out having Chewy die, then conveniently have a grasy knoll transport who made it out. Same as the Leia 'death' in TLJ. Chewy's capture really wasnt necessary, no?

I didn’t read anything so I was pleasantly surprised.

OK, here you go. Abrams’ “vision”:
Saw it today. Good but certainly not great.
Liked where the final scene was and the final shot.

This was a fantastic movie. One thing wasn't to my liking but that is minimal.
When do we lift the "no Spoiler" tag and get to chat about this movie?
Loved it loved it loved it.
Hot damn loved it.
So if y'all are ready to chat man, I am all game for that!
