I'm sure they took pictures and all that gruesome crap.
I saw a photo earlier; it had not been verified as authentic, but photos already are on-line. Disclaimer, as I am not someone who goes around looking for such evidence: Andrew Sullivan posted a link to the photo early this morning as part of his coverage, without warning/explanation of what the link contained.
The one I've seen, and I posted a link in this thread or maybe the other one, is clearly fake. It is a poor photoshop at best.condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

Is it? I don't know if I agree with you about that.
Some years ago, a friend's brother was murdered. The friend, devastated by the loss, wanted justice, revenge, punishment. Justice was served, as the killer was rather promptly convicted and imprisoned.
You know what? The friend did not feel better afterwards. The brother still was dead; no conviction was going to bring him back. People speak of closure, and I have to wonder how much relief closure brings. The loss remains, and there is no getting around that, and I really, honestly don't know that I would be singing and dancing were it my husband or brother who was killed; my loved one still would be gone. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0 -
woke up and heard the news today
i'm british but i completely understand the feeling of relief and the celebrations in america - you don't have to have lost someone in 9/11 to feel this, to want to share in the happiness of those who lost loved ones. The whole world saw and felt the horror of 9/11.
no one's saying that it's the end to terrorism but it's the end of a mass murderer's life and it's brought justice to all of the disgusting things that he has done against the world and against humanity
at the same time, i feel scared, wary for the future of the world - killing one man, like someone else said on here, won't kill a mentality and there are going to be efforts to revenge his death.
What has happened is a milestone and it has changed things, how significantly is something that we will all have to wait to find out0 -

It will be a long time before troops leave. Oh and the 'real' photo is not real.0 -

You know, he may be dead but his iconic status and idealogies are not.... with all the jumping about outside the whitehouse being beemed around the world, those idealogies will be strengthened. Today is good for the families of those he killed, but not good for the world in general.
Islamic terrorists are not now going to shrug their shoulders and think "well, thats that over with then".
Al-Zawiri: stil alive
Abu al-libi: still alive
Khald al-habib: still alive
adnan el shukrijumah: still alive
saif al-adel: still alive
the list goes on......
Yeah, Pakistan has some explaining to do I think.
I agree with you about his iconic status.
The only difference between those guys and bin Laden is, bin Laden had the unique ability to rally people around his cause and create a global following. When people join al Qaeda they pledge personal oaths of loyalty to bin Laden. He was charismatic. He had skins on the wall. The image he built for himself as defender of Islam against Soviet aggression in the 80s and against the US in the 2000s was a point of inspiration amongst his followers and that will not be easy to replicate.
Terrorism existed long before bin Laden and will exist long after, but this man put a face on it. He changed "normal" for everyone around the world. Those guys you listed are dangerous men to be sure. And there are many more just like them. But they are small potatoes compared to bin Laden. I think it will be very difficult for someone else to just step in and take his place.
All that said, congrats and thanks to the US troops and intelligence community that made this happen. And a prayer for the victims of 9/11 and all who have suffered as a result over the years.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

We are all slaves. It's called the monetary system. Each person is worth 9.5 million dollars to the government, look it up.elevation622 wrote:As Ed said in Uniondale: USA! USA! USA! That's my take!
100 to 1 Ed is NOT chanting USA USA USA this morning. This very mentality is one of the main reasons I see myself leaving this country in the future. It's embarrassing. Thank god for dual citizenship.0 -

I like when people speak for Ed who don't know a fucking thing about him. It's refreshing to know so much about a man I admire through the thoughts of what others perception of him to be. If Ed were like any other American, and I believe him to be (not speaking FOR him), he's pleased that Osama is off the face of the earth.0 -

This is the stupidest fucking thing I've ever read.
Edit: Okay it's not. But it's easily the stupidest fucking thing I'll read today.Post edited by Ledbetterman10 on2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea.
