As I respect the opinions of everyone who has posted in this thread, I would have to ask all foreigners who have not experienced an attack as horrific as 9/11 to be quiet.

look, the way we Americans are acting today and how we acted last night is a mere act of human nature. The same way terrorists celebrated in the streets in the middle east. the same way any country in our position would rejoice. even Sweden. Face it, Sweden, Greece, [insert your country here], if it was your country, you and everyone else would act the same exact way as we American's did. It's human nature. and that's a fact.
i was in Madrid Spain at 11th march 2004 when al quida attact trains in the capital of Spain...
191 people die..Spain become a target cos Athar the prime minister deside to sent troups to Iraq to join usa
i saw only one thing at the eyes of spanish people..horor-fear.....undersand why Americans celebrate today..its normal...but the foreigners here has something u dont have right now..they imagive the next day..and it isnt safer....and most of our counties..like Sweden and Greece are ALLIES..with USA...

yeah guys...i get you ...you know,my country and me personally, belong to what we say west world...
those muslims has one goal only..to make us feel fear..and this attack at the towers did it...
i still remember the ccn live(all greeks channels was live with cnn)
America under attack..and all people around me was telling me the same..if this empire, called USA cant protect their home how the hell we can do it being so small.....
they put this fear inside us...and with this fucker dead ,i feel more to come..like given one more reason for attack to west civilaizations..

Ps: to Dimitris: do not be afraid, there is no more danger than yesterday for a terrorist attack. There will probably be reprisals, but not on the scale you are thinking of (i think at least). I think that it will be more directed towards American embassies. If al Queada was planning something big, they don't need Osama as an excuse, do they? So enjoy PJ 20.
true, but this today put again the fear in my head that i almost forgot

Yeah, it's not like they lost interest in attacking the West and now that Osama is dead they are going to get off their butts and do it finally. They've been trying, but have been foiled, or just didn't pull it off for whatever reason. They didn't just pull off 9/11, then jump down a hole only to come back out now. If they had the means to pull off a major attack last week, or last year, they would have done it. They just launched their latest offensive a week ago, and it mainly seems to be children suicide bombers. While still horrific, doesn't pose a serious threat to your average citizen outside of the Middle East. These people want to destroy a lot of Western countries, and Osama's death does not make them any more capable, just more angry. If some big attack happens now, chances are it was probably in the works before Osama was killed. They weren't looking for an excuse, but they may use it as a battle cry now.

That I can understand (I just read your statement re. Madrid), in the same way I can understand the "relief" and feelings of justice that some people express here. Trauma is terrible. Just keep relevating and keep thinking: that *you* at least go to PJ20!

Well, that is the issue, isn't it. It is an endless battle, because it is religious / ideology based and not based on individuals or persons (or even countries). That is what makes this war intangible (excuse my spelling). If al Queada dissapears, there will be another organization filling the void. If the core issues of this war (inequality, poverty, repression - the breeding ground of terrorism) on a global scale is not addressed it will continu, continu and continu...

to those who have responded to my comments. You do bring good points, but that being said, my comments weren't to squash your arguments concerning the safety of the world, It was to squash the argument posed earlier in this thread (mainly directed at that sweden guy) that it was wrong for us to rejoice the way we did. he made it seem like we were the bad guys for wishing a mass murderer dead and celebrating our wish being fulfilled. it was also squashing the argument that "nothing has changed", when in fact a lot has changed in American sentiment. People feel closure, as people felt closure on V-J Day (which was why i referenced Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima/Nagasaki, it was to the fact the American people felt closure, not to compare the degree of horror the events have caused) that being said

i will squash the safety argument, while yes there is a slightly heightened danger when it comes to flying and what not, but the fact of the matter is, Bin Laden was a symbol for Al-Qaida and other terrorist networks, he was a successful leader of them. any successor to follow is extremely weak compared to him and though it may not happen right away, i feel that Al-Qaida will crumble.

Dimitris, do not live in fear. You should not let things you have no control over affect the way you live. I know it can be scary but there is really nothing us "regular" people can do.

I love it. This sums up how I feel.
It does, however, make me uncomfortable to see the people partying in the streets celebrating bin ladens death.
I am celebrating in my mind. No need to flaunt it and ruffle more feathers.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

I'm not out partying over this, but if I were from the NY area, the DC area, or knew someone affected by this, you're damn right I would be!

Please remember to post within the Posting Guidelines. If someone is so emotional that they cannot discuss a topic within the Guidelines, it's probably the wrong day to be posting. Return when that can be done. Thank you.

Dimi, you forget that Osama Bin Ladin comes from the Greek word meaning "coward." If he were a man, he'd not make a career of murdering innocent children, women & men. If he were a man, he'd not go into hiding for almost a decade to the day.

    So...why now u don't PJ20ing, brother?
