We are all slaves. It's called the monetary system. Each person is worth 9.5 million dollars to the government, look it up.elevation622 wrote:As Ed said in Uniondale: USA! USA! USA! That's my take!
100 to 1 Ed is NOT chanting USA USA USA this morning. This very mentality is one of the main reasons I see myself leaving this country in the future. It's embarrassing. Thank god for dual citizenship.

It is embarrassing. Maybe not to everyone, but it's still embarrassing.0 -

As I respect the opinions of everyone who has posted in this thread, I would have to ask all foreigners who have not experienced an attack as horrific as 9/11 to be quiet. You have to put your minds into the minds of Americans and not say how wrong it is we are acting (though you may think America's reaction is wrong, that idc about) but that reacting the way we did is understandable. Obviously after initial celebration we realize the obvious sense of danger us Americans are now in for retaliation. This is how I put it in a conversation i had with a friend over facebook last night...i feel like it's worth repeating on here
"i will have to disagree with you on that (in reference to the fact you don't think things will change). We can finally have closure on this chapter in American History. Though it's been a decade, 9/11 seems like yesterday. 9/11 has been relevant throughout this time, and now, as Khalid Sheik Muhammad is being put to trial, and as these wars are (hopefully) dying down. We can now look at 9/11 not as a current event but as an historical event like how we look at something like pearl harbor today. and with this new closure comes a new sentiment in the American people where we can finally go back to some sense of the American ways of life prior to 9/11."
after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we finally looked passed pearl harbor as a current and relevant event. America had closure after those bombings (whether one agrees with the bombings or not) and after Japan surrendered America rejoiced despite how inhumane those bombings were, because that chapter of American and world history was finally finished.
look, the way we Americans are acting today and how we acted last night is a mere act of human nature. The same way terrorists celebrated in the streets in the middle east. the same way any country in our position would rejoice. even Sweden. Face it, Sweden, Greece, [insert your country here], if it was your country, you and everyone else would act the same exact way as we American's did. It's human nature. and that's a fact.0 -
Well, I guess I'm not better than a citizen in the middle east because I'm a damn proud individual today.0
-
Its a symbolic victory. Those that have suffered at the hands of Al Qaeda should feel some satisfaction.
But as far as world safety goes, its only one man in a network of thousands. I have no doubt in my mind that there are successors in waiting as well extensive plans contemplating Obama's demise.

hey dimitris, i get what you are saying and very much respect it.
anybody else think last night was so surreal when you were watching the news? it was like I went back to 9/11/01...all of the same feelings and emotions came back. it was crazy. i actually started to cry.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0 -

Looks like the reprisals will happen.. Hamas now condemning it as the "assassination of a holy warrior".... this is not good for the middle east conflict and thus world peace.
Hamas = not al Qaeda. They may be stating the above, but it has more to do with diminishing the influence of al Queda in Palestinian areas. (In other words; you should interpret the statement within the context of domestic politics.) I am not sure if your aiming at this, but I think it is important to clarify.
Even though there will probably be reprisals, I think that al Qaeda over the years has weakened and this is to a high degree a symbolic blow to this terrorist organization.0 -

Same here. After all this time I never really thought that we would get to the point where something like this would happen. I'm not a political person at all, I don't follow any of it. But I laid in bed and was proud last night. No, this doesn't mean peace on earth, it doesn't mean that we're going to stop having crazy airport security, it really doesn't change anything in the big picture. But, we said we were going to find and kill this dude almost 10 years and and it finally happened. Dear PJ Fan est. 1990,
I am not American, but I can understand the emotional reaction. What I do want to remind you of though is that most countries know how it is to be attacked on national soil; so we may not have experienced 9/11 directly, I think - due to our national histories - we can identify and still make sound statements. (Don't you?) Besides, there were also terrorist attacks (organized by al Queada) in Europe.
In short: no need to silence us.
That all said: this is in no way btw comparable to Hiroshima and Nagasaki; it is a complete different kind of war on a complete different scale (with complete different consequences). And compared to Japan; al Queada hasn't surrendered yet. So even though I get the jest of your statement, the comparison goes somewhat limp.
Ps: to Dimitris: do not be afraid, there is no more danger than yesterday for a terrorist attack. There will probably be reprisals, but not on the scale you are thinking of (i think at least). I think that it will be more directed towards American embassies. If al Queada was planning something big, they don't need Osama as an excuse. So enjoy PJ 20.Post edited by fortyshades on0 -
