i hear snooki has some good ideas too

    trump is irrelevent.

people on the right blasted obama for "being a celebrity". what is trump? the republicans must get their criticisms in order and apply them to both sides or they will never ever be taken seriously by any person with a brain.

twice now you have made references to people on the right blasting obama for being a celebrity. I have no idea what that means but for you to keep saying that makes me laugh.
i remember when gop voters attacked obama in 2008 for "being a celebrity"....how can you vote for this clown if being a "celebrity" is a negative attribute??? how can you reconclie that criticism between the two candidates???

how does this make sense? :)

Before he was elected, many on the right were saying Obama was too moviestar or whatever.

I don't have this problem with Trump, I just think he'd be the worst president of all time.

I think leading up to the crap about the birth certificate, the reason he was/is doing well in some polls is because he actually has some pretty solid opinions. He's pretty much against us being the world police, he hates the trade relationships we have with various countries like China, and he's for us being more independent. There's really nothing wrong with any of those views, and that is something the majority of the people in this country support. I'd rather have someone who's already a billionaire, who can finance a campaign with the change he leaves on his dresser drawer at night, as opposed to someone who is beholden to a myriad of campaign contributors. I believe we need someone like him, just not him.

love this post! But why not him?

I just think there's too much of a circus atmosphere that surrounds him. The really sad part in all this is, you have NO ONE else who even comes close to representing these same principles. You have Romney, practically a robot, Huckabee who I really just don't care for, and there's no way Palin has a snowball's chance of ever doing anything. The only other slight possibility would be Herman Cain, but he'd have about as much of a chance as McCain did. Really there is no one at all who is electable.

I guess I'm just too damn picky. If I had an ideal candidate, they would have at least some of the following characteristics:

    1) Write their own damn speeches, and be competent enough to speak off the cuff. Lincoln could do it, and had less than 2 years of formal education.

    2) Support a tax overhaul. Either move forward with a proposed national sales tax (with a cap rate), or reform corporate tax code that prevents sheltering money outside of the US. This would prevent mega corporations from withholding the billions of dollars in taxes, that every other small corporation in this country is forced to pay.

    3) Bring home our troops. Stop policing the world, and if you're going to get involved, then be consistent. If you're going to go after tyrants, lets start in Africa. Instead of spending billions of dollars rebuilding Afghanistan and Iraq, how about we use the same money to build fresh water lines and supply simple medicine for those in rural African villages. It may sound stupid, but I seriously thank God sometimes when I'm brushing my teeth at night, and I'm able to turn a handle and get fresh clean water out of the faucet. Ok, sorry to ramble on this one.

    4) Secure our borders. There's nothing racist about that. When you are dealing with drug lords and possible terrorist threats, it's stupid to leave the door open for them. I've got no problem having the military patrol and protect our borders. I'd rather them do this than having them stationed all over the world protecting other borders.

    5) Stop subsidizing oil, support a ban on oil being traded as a public commodity and create incentives for companies who invest in the research and development of alternative energy for both industry and transportation.

These are just a few, and there are many others I can think of right now, but I gotta get back to work. :)

Sounds like Ron Paul is the person for you. I think its sad that we don't vote for someone because they are "unelectable" or "can't win". Its even more sad that the majority of the Americans are so uniformed about the candidates.

I've gone to numerous rallies, gatherings, meetings with local, state, and US reps, and the lack of knowledge of our citizens is amazing. I've had only one meaningful discussion in all of these gatherings with someone. People seem to get a lot of their information from some talking head.

If you want the status quo of the past century, vote for Obama or the GOP candidate, unless Ron Paul gets the nod which I know will be tough since the GOP brass hate him and will not allow him their nomination. We have it great here in this country, but it can be so much greater if we were given our freedoms and liberties than have been usurped from us by the federal government.

"Conservatives at CPAC in February raved about Trump's criticism of America's reputation in the world, and responded favorably to his penchant for telling it like it is. Meanwhile polls continue to turn up that many Republican voters also doubt Obama's birthplace--an outlier issue that has allowed Trump to pick up additional traction within the GOP base by positioning himself as a heroic truth-teller with the courage to challenge a vast liberal-media conspiracy to conceal the true circumstances of Obama's birth. From what you posted in this thread, mamasan, you place money, image and elitism as priorities and basically that's what you like about Trump. There's something seriously wrong with placing these superficial qualities as worthy candidate qualities of the POTUS.

all you need to know is that he/she doesn't believe obama was born in the US ... or at the very least, supports a candidate who doesn't believe obama was born in the US ...

My sentiments exactly. Even Krauthammer sees Trump as a joke.

This is a scary statement on where we are as a society. Most people know Trump as the host of a relaity TV show, and that is what will get him elected. Idiocracy, here we come!!! (Or, as "gimmesometruth" has agreed, we may be already there!).

it got Arnold elected to gov.
If trump by some wierd marical got elected I'd bet with in 6 months he'd be in a nut house..well these days the white house is a nut house.

your right about that but no offense to you I just don't think he could be a president of this country, it's alot different than running a business with total control, a president can't have total control and that's what Donald
works with and has grown used to....but it would be interesting to see.

A couple of my friends were discussing Trump possibly getting the GOP nod and seemed to be behind the idea of him running ... I asked them if they were concerned about putting their vote behind a man that has gone bankrupt on several occasions, is a reality TV star, and looks like a muskrat died on his head ... they responded that Ronald Reagan was once a B-star and became a great president ...

Long story short, things got a little heated when I tried to explain that Trump was using this for good publicity or that his ego has exploded and he is officially nuts. And also if the GOP supported them, they would be officially nuts because Trump must have so much baggage that it would be a field day for bloggers (possibly the craziest of all people) and team Obama. I got some stink-eye as result and decided to let the issue rest since we were having a few beers and having a good time. At least they were not talking about a Newt / Palin ticket.

Polling numbers don't mean much right now. Wait another 6-8 months, and then we'll see where we stand.

I personally Trump is doing all this to pump up his image and line his pockets. Mark my words, he will be an afterthought come primary time. How can anyone say the stupid sh*t he does and get away with it? Well, I guess because our country is full of stupid people.

If anyone did some research and looked into it, they will come to discover that Obama was born in Hawaii. But, they'll just keep spewing the same, "where's his birth certificate"?. How about we ask all the idiots who believe that where their birth certificate is? Trump didn't even know where his was. Just another example of the dumbing down of America.
