Yes. He SAYS a lot of nice things. So, he is already qualified to be a politician.
It amazes me that we elect politicians based on what they SAY they are going to do, and then they get into office and we are disappointed, sometimes unjustifiably due to our idiotic instant gratification culture, that they did not immediately do everything they said they would do. THEN, we just attach ourselves to the next candidate who SAYS nice things.
Is something wrong with this picture? Is society this deranged? I think so. I mean, we still haven't realized that our addiction to oil has formed a warped, extremely dangerous Middle Eastern foreign policy. Do we need another 9/11 to wake us up to make some changes?

in response to whygohome i would just like to say that we don't need another 9/11 to wake us up because all that will do is cause another outbreak of blind flagwaving patriotism without looking into the actual reasons for why we are being attacked, and hopefully doing things to prevent future attacks. the lessons of 9/11 have not been learned and the first one did not wake us up, and when 40% of the population believes that iraq was behind 9/11 because iraq hates our freedom, i would say that the lesson was never learned to begin with....
and it is pretty sad when brick tamlin's iq of 48 is higher than our collective iq of 32"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

technically it was just a conflict so two days sounds right
some day the education system won't be a joke...I cannot wait for that day...
However, regardless of why we were attacked, I don't think it is good policy to give in to the demands of a lunatic. If that was the case, no government in the world would be able to do anything because lunatics will always be against them one way or another... ... maybe we should start giving in now that I think about it...no aggressive foreign policy of any kind  yep I like that idea
edit*** back on topic, I think Trump is a guy like Newt, using the free publicity to sell books and his image all the while having no plans to actually be president. anyone who considers him a serious candidate should simply look at the fact that he has serious questions about the birth certificate of Obama...in my mind you cannot be a serious candidate and do that.that’s right! YEAH YOU GOTTA BE CONCERNED
when Donal trump and Sarah Palin are the best you have to offer
you aint got much at all
Trump and Palin are not the BEST that the GOP has to offer. It's just that the republican voters are too stupid to think for themselves. Instead they listen to FOXNews and Rush Limbaugh. I think it's telling that FOXNews doesn't include Ron Paul's poll numbers on their shows. Ron Paul is polling at 10 percent in Iowa and New Hampshire, but you wouldn't know it if you get your news on TV.
Are those straw poll results? Those don't mean a whole lot. Nationally, the GOP nom leader is Huckabee at around 18%, edging out Romney and Trump. This is setting up for a great year of comedy as it couldn't be written any better. Let's hope Palin stays in the mix!0 -

I only wish you were educated enough to grasp the absolute irony in that poorly-spelled, punctuated and capitalized sentence where you mangle the English language and prove that the only people who would support a turd like Trump are... well... people with little to no education.0 -
really?

Exactly, and well said.
Far too few Americans understand even the basic workings of government and far too many cast their votes based on popularity, looks, "charm", "charisma" etc. Elections have become little more than political versions of "American Idol " *
Another thing to think about: What do other countries think of the U.S.-- that we would even simply entertain ideas such as the possibility of Trump, Palin etc. becoming president? :?
*Maybe somebody can replace this with a better metaphor since my knowledge of such shows is hearsay- I don't spend my time watching this sort of thing."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Donald Trump will never be President.
Ron Paul will never be President.
Dennis Kucinich will never be President.
Ralph Nader will never be President.
Are there any other perennial candidates I'm missing?
Trump has never really been serious about running for President, or about anything that doesn't serve his ego. He couldn't survive a primary in any state even if he tried to, and I think he's smart enough not to try. This is just a bigger, better orchestrated publicity stunt that the other times he's thrown his name out there.0 -

I just think there's too much of a circus atmosphere that surrounds him. The really sad part in all this is, you have NO ONE else who even comes close to representing these same principles. You have Romney, practically a robot, Huckabee who I really just don't care for, and there's no way Palin has a snowball's chance of ever doing anything. The only other slight possibility would be Herman Cain, but he'd have about as much of a chance as McCain did. Really there is no one at all who is electable.
I guess I'm just too damn picky. If I had an ideal candidate, they would have at least some of the following characteristics:
1) Write their own damn speeches, and be competent enough to speak off the cuff. Lincoln could do it, and had less than 2 years of formal education.
2) Support a tax overhaul. Either move forward with a proposed national sales tax (with a cap rate), or reform corporate tax code that prevents sheltering money outside of the US. This would prevent mega corporations from withholding the billions of dollars in taxes, that every other small corporation in this country is forced to pay.
3) Bring home our troops. Stop policing the world, and if you're going to get involved, then be consistent. If you're going to go after tyrants, lets start in Africa. Instead of spending billions of dollars rebuilding Afghanistan and Iraq, how about we use the same money to build fresh water lines and supply simple medicine for those in rural African villages. It may sound stupid, but I seriously thank God sometimes when I'm brushing my teeth at night, and I'm able to turn a handle and get fresh clean water out of the faucet. Ok, sorry to ramble on this one.
4) Secure our borders. There's nothing racist about that. When you are dealing with drug lords and possible terrorist threats, it's stupid to leave the door open for them. I've got no problem having the military patrol and protect our borders. I'd rather them do this than having them stationed all over the world protecting other borders.
5) Stop subsidizing oil, support a ban on oil being traded as a public commodity and create incentives for companies who invest in the research and development of alternative energy for both industry and transportation.
These are just a few, and there are many others I can think of right now, but I gotta get back to work.0
