Welcome to a brave new basketball world ladies and gentlemans. NBA fans have to choose between the two white people they love(d) to hate (Mark Cuban and Dirk) or LeBron. And it's not getting any better for anyone else.

Why would someone hate Dirk? Because he hurts teams?

Yeah, I read that on Yahoo today. He's determined for it. Bold move for him to get a tat of the trophy.

    A. race isn't a card it's a socially constructed identity (i.e. it doesn't exist in any scientific sense but people make it real). As such, "race matters" in just about any social situation, particularly in fan love/hate situations.

    B. People historically haven't liked Cuban or Dirk which is weird in a sport where white players (not that Cuban is a player) are loved often because they believe that "whiteness" is some sort of disability.

    C. ESPN conducted a study that showed that "white" people hated LeBron at a 67% clip after "the decision", while only 36% of "black" people. As such race matters again.

not sure why people hate Dirk, but if you go back to 2006 the general public was rooting for the Heat over the Mavs. It could be that his success equals Cuban success which is stupid, because Mark Cuban is exactly the owner all of us would like to work for.

I can understand Cuban because he speaks his mind and is really into it during the game and yelling at the refs on a ridiculous call.

    easy reverend sharpton...

b...what do you mean you "people?" ...white people rooting for white people in hoops is like black people rooting for black qb's in football. the mark cuban thing is ridiculous though. people don't like him because he's a douche. there is no racism involved with mark cuban what so ever.

c...could be wrong but i don't think anyone really mentioned anything about race until after lebron said he thought race played a role in people's perceptions and, of course, after jessie jackson called the cav's owner a slave master or something.

anyone who is actively looking to play the race "socially constructed identity" card can find one in just about any aspect of life.

really look forward to the day where people can just live and let live and not have to worry about nonsense like this. it's a fucking game dude. heat/mavs. that's it.

On the TNT postgame, they were already talking about the benches for both teams and which one seems more dangerous, or something along those lines.
