I am feeling that High Sierra Dondante. They really soundchecked the hell outta that huh? I still prefer the slow build of the original but both are great.
I haven't listened to King of Limbs since Angles came out
Think I'll have to listen to that on the ride home from work...

After a few days and several listens I think it's pretty damn cool.
Kinda silly to gripe about lyrics with MMJ. JJ/YY has always been pretty quirky with the lyrics.
I didn't really read any of the "making of the album" stuff so I was just expecting an MMJ record and this does the trick. I think it could use a couple more tunes, maybe a couple upbeat tunes. After Black Metal could use a little boost.
Slow Slow Tune is the stinker for me. Don't see why JJ couldn't find a better register to sing it in. It's painfully fake sounding to me.
It's better than King of Limbs.
Jack White is better than Jimi Page then . It's silly to gripe about lyrics if it's your job?

I guess not, but I don't think he's a worst lyricist than he was before. He's always written stuff that you kinda roll your eyes at or at the very least kinda just laugh a little at them.

It is funny because he has some songs that are lyrically golden (pun intended)
and others that make you cringe
I can never call him one of my favorite lyricist because eventually someone is gonna ask me if i would like a peanut butter pudding surprise and i'm going to have to try to defend that

I can understand some fans feelings towards the live vibe vs the studio albums. But think about it, would you want the same experience live as you do when spinning a disc? In the studio they have time to refine and play real tight with some touches of production. As a fan I want more from a band when I see them live, not a rehashed version of their albums, too many bands already do that. I guess what I'm saying is the albums should be the base of the experience and the concerts should rise above that. Now if they totally retune the songs live in a completely different manner than that's another discussion... could be they grew into the songs on the road and in practice, can't say.
I haven't listened to the new album yet, seems like peeking at x-mas gifts under my parents' bed only to possibly lose the excitement when I receive them. I still like the enjoyment of holding the physical album and listening to a new release that I'm excited about. Maybe it's just self-restraint as I get older... I dunno...
As far as EU... I think Jim tried to bring in a Motown sound of some sorts and ended up with an 80's Pop R&B vibe instead on some songs. I'd rather he brought in a Stax or Muscle Shoals sound and leave the 80's were they belong. I do like some songs on EU, but I have to admit skipping a few songs as I listen.

yeah its a little mellow but I think as a whole Circuital is really good. I ike Victory Dance & Outta My System right off the bat. Some of these songs are going to translate really well live. Wonderful & Moving Away are very impressive as well.
It's crazy to think songs like Chills and Cobra are B-sides http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYL9VI60nOg. I still can't wait to see these guys again. I wish Radiohead still played their old songs with as much passion as MMJ. I haven't heard Yim going through the motions on One Big Holiday yet. Quite the opposite. I haven't heard a good version of The Bends or Airbag from Thom and Co. since 2003.

I agree with this 1000%. The main reason why we listen to PJ boots, but still go back to the studio recordings from time to time...except...with MMJ, I dont usually go back to the studio recordings because the live stuff is just so much better to me.

I mostly listen to MMJ through their albums, but have seen them live a couple of times. I have their Okonokos live album. Are there any other live albums or "bootlegs" that you can recommend?
Thanks!

go to archive.org... there are a ton of their shows posted there, you can see the highest rated as well as how the show was taped. Some good stuff on there of other bands too.
I find it highly annoying that I cannot join the Roll Call fanclub without preordering this album.
agreed
wtf is up with that?
album is better and better with each listen though
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Not sure. I would not have a problem with it if the shipping costs weren't so high. I will just buy it from the Best Buy near me and save some dough. Seems pretty cheap of them to do this.

Though, i'm sure i'll just fold and buy it from them eventually. So i guess they win
