The opening two songs from the new album were awesome. First light was so much better live and black metal was sick. They could close with that song and I would have been happy it was so much fun live
Charlotte 00 Charlotte 03 Asheville 04 Atlanta 12 Greenville 16, Columbia 16 Seattle 18 Nashville 22 Ohana Festival 24 x2
And a great festival setlist. This summer can't come soon enough.
Nice!
I was thinking about going to the Mountain Jam festival next weekend, but I really don't have the time to make it upstate and back. They are playing a 2 and a half hour set and it only costs $100 for the bus and the show (theres a few other bands that day obviously).
Album of the Year. No question about it. Way better than that Foo Fighters album and that dumb King of Limbs. Victory Dance.

No way. Fleet Foxes kills this album.
Dont get me wrong, Helplessness Blues is outstanding. And it was great seeing all those songs live. I just think MMJ brings so much to the table with every effort. These songs are gonna be crushed live this summer. Back in 08, I thought Fleet Foxes>Evil Urges, and I still do, but now in 11 I think Circuital>Helplessness Blues

Fleet Foxes put me to sleep, both albums if the 2 more recent ones are all they have. I wasn't really impressed at all.
I don't get all the positive buzz about the Foo's album either. It's really the same as their others. A few good tunes that'll get played to death on the radio and several that are good in theory, less so in practice.
King of Limbs could've been really good had they finished the songs
EV's solo album coulda been special if he didn't really do an all uke album.
I need to listen to the new TVOtR some more
I dunno if Circuital is album of the year, but it's certainly a front runner. Hopefully the 2nd half of the year is better.

wow i agree 100% w/FF...Haven't listened to the Foo Fighters disc, loved King of Limbs (still looking for mp3 links to the 2 RSD UK exclusive tracks which RollingStone said are unbelievable) and Helplessness Blues is fantastic but the flow is kinda off imo and tho im still listening to it, i just heard MMJ for first time off NPR (only heard first 2 singles prior to today b/c i dont like to go out of my way to get leaks) and each song flows into the next - kinda reminds me of "Z" which is my fav record
ive been rockin to Victory Dance > Circuital & Outta My System are my favorite transitions so far - this was my most anticipated album of 2011 and its surpassed my expectations.
EDIT: if you guys really like MMJ - you need to pick up the current issue of Relix and read the cover story - i couldn't put it down last night. It also has a Bonnaroo X article exclusive and the Relix Annual Summer Festival Rundown. I read it cover-to-cover and now i really cant wait for Bonnaroo and my MMJ Circuital Deluxe Edition to get here

Album of the year :? . Helplessness Blues pawns it. Have you listened to The King Of Limbs more than 3 times? Circuital is an easy listen I guess. Circuital is their Backspacer.

I have actually. I listened to King of Limbs for about a week straight before realizing its just not that great. And Im a HUGE Radiohead fan. Helplessness Blues as I said is outstanding, but Circuital is the complete package. And its way better than that piece of crap Backspacer.

I'll take Lotus Flower and Codex over anything on Circuital. I do think Slow Slow tune and a couple others will sound great live. One thing that does bother me a little about MMJ live is all the samples Bo triggers. I always wondered how songs like Mahgeetah and Wordless always had perfect backing vocals. It seems like when they play Black Metal, it's the same thing. They are sampling the children along with the horns. I bet Radiohead would find a way to loop the live vocals to make it more interesting ala Everything In It's Right Place or The Gloaming. I just hate pre-recorded tracks at a live concert.
wow. got my deluxe vinyl and roll call package in the mail. this is how it's done. the package far exceeded my expectations. the poster and t-shirt are amazing. and now i am a card carrying roll call member. awesome.

Awesome man. You got the vinyl already? Maybe I'll have one in my mailbox this evening as well! I'm not sure where I stand on the album yet but no matter what, it will beat 80% of the other records I hear this year easily.

yes, listening to it now. i'm with you on the album, but it really doesn't matter. not sure if you got this deluxe vinyl and roll call, but even if the record sucked, which i don't think it does, the package is great for any mmj fan.....oh and the dvd...would've made me cry if i was a crier.
for those bitching about shipping costs, fact that you have to buy the album for roll call, fact that you have to pay for roll call for a band that you can get good tickets to see anyway etc.. if you are an mmj fan, get the roll call. it is worth it for the t shirt and poster alone. $30 bucks!? i would've paid 50 for this shirt and poster without the membership if that's what it cost. awesome.

Glad to hear they made use of the space on the vinyl and it's cut at 45rpm.....Supposedly sounds unbelievable. I can imagine with it goin to tape, and MMJ's sound just lends itself so well to vinyl anyway.

if more and more people join and mmj gets a spike in popularity over the next few years, i wouldn't be surprised if it became seniority based. doesn't hurt to be among the first to join. they may be keeping records.

The Victory Dance/Circuital opening is going to kill live. They did it the other night, and I bet they'll do it for most shows this summer.
