NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM!!!!!!!!

radiohead are a shame really. they put every band to shame with their buisness practices, then back that up by providing album after album of amazing tunes.
They challenge the listener, every album. Dubstep influenced record? Only in radiohead world would this be a possibility and turn out to be such a great album.
Its a shame most bands refuse to follow their muse and take creative risks like radiohead does0 -

Haha! So true.
I'll likely write a massive long tirade about my feelings towards Radiohead, just as soon I clean the last bits of puke off my keyboard from reading all the sycophantic shite written in this thread.
Just because a good percentage of us like this album and are really to see one of our favorite bands return with a great album that makes us sycophantic. You don't need to read the thread it clearly says NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM!!!! if you don't like them stay away, I don't burst into every Oasis or Beady Eye thread slagging them off, I can't stand either but I stay clear!
Just shit stirring I guess!0 -

Not even close, I like the band and a good bit of the new album. Way to jump to conclusions though0 -
Anyone else think the little guitar line that shows up in Separator bares similarity to the guitar in PJ's Release?Post edited by facepollution on0

I don't know about that, but it almost sounds like something Wilco would do.
Which is definitely a compliment!
Edit: Referring to the guitar line, not the song itself.0 -

"With an album title inspired by a 1000 year old tree, song titles like Bloom, Lotus Flower, and Feral, a acoustic guitars galore (even acoustic bass), exclusively real drums, and chopped up samples of thing like hand claps, hand percussion, the human voice, and a plethora of other natural sounds, Radiohead with this album were clearly trying to create something completely organic out of an electronic atmosphere. The whole thing is peppered with glitches and blips, but it never stops feeling alive - alive and breathing.
Here, the electronic haze of our modern age blends seemlessly with a forest of natural sound. Radiohead wanted to create an electronic album that was alive and breathing, and with The King of Limbs they've succeeded mightily."
I think this is quite an interesting way of looking at it.
I had a break after the first day's listens, and have played King of Limbs 4 or 5 times this afternoon. As a piece, emotionally, I think it succeeds in creating a manic cacophony of electronic stimulus, and coming through it to find peace and resolution. Very interesting album. Very dense.Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection

Either my musical pallette is so refined that I have the most sophisticated listening skills as this album isn't very 'challenging', or you're all just full of it.
It is a good album though. But as far as challenging and pushing musical boundaries......no.0 -

I think this is more of a Thom Yorke solo album, than an actual Radiohead album. I hardly hear any input from any of the other band members - and it certainly sounds like it could be a counterpart to The Eraser.
That said, I still really like this album. It's a lot less immediate than In Rainbows was, and a little less "songful", but it's works in the same way Kid A does, as a whole piece. With In Rainbows you could listen to individual songs (even though it'd draw you into listen to the whole album) and still enjoy them, whereas TKOL is more of an all-the-way-through kind of album. At first I hated the short length, but now that I've listened to it more it works better. Being so short makes it that much easier to want to go all the way through it, as opposed to breaking it up into individual songs. I kind of do wish there was more to it though, after waiting 4 years for a new album. Same reason I was disappointed in Backspacer, too long of a wait for too little music.
Lotus Flower is certainly my favorite song on here, though, being the most songful out of the bunch in my opinion. That, and I love the singing on it, it's a tad different than Thom's usual delivery. All in all I'm pretty happy with the new album, it's nothing too groundbreaking or new, but it's almost an amalgam of their past decade of work, without sounding dated by ten years. Thanks EPOTTSIII!

+1
It doesn't bush any boundries really. I guess it depends on how much music you listen to and how much variety to your POV. I don't regard this as 'challenging' really.0 -

it succeeds in creating a cacophony? You realise that's not actually a good thing? :eh:oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

if the thread was entitled "NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM - post here if you think its brilliant" then you may have had a point... but this thread is for both lovers and loathers of the album and anyone inbetween.

I've heard it twice. It's gonna take me a long time to have it grow on me from what I'm reading. Not sure if I have the patience for this.

Well I think what it succeeds in doing is recreating the cacophony of stimulus which we are all living in these days, slicing it all up - and then working through it to find some harmony and resolution. Also, was listening this morning and I think it might have a 'narrative' - a kind of concept thing going lyrically - like an animal (the king of limbs) - maybe a tree? waking up to face the world. Although listening like this put me off a bit - because I haven't really enjoyed a concept album since I was about 18 (Pink Floyd the Wall - though I do still enjoy that!!)Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection
