    cairns police have just dispatched vehicles to go check out the damage and drop in on the evac centres, so we might have some news soon. :?

    I know as of yesterday she was still there but thinking about evacuating, did she at least go to one of the centers?

    Although, this storm is so violent, I can't imagine being safe anywhere near it.

    Just keep praying for all of them.

    it's hard to leave your home ... for various reasons ... the worst being that you are afraid that looters will take your valuables ...

    i would suspect that despite the ferociousness of this storm - that the majority of casualties will be the result of uninformed decision making post storm ...

    It's so frigging annoying that the news here is saturated with stories about snow and rain here in New England with a few words here and there about how "oh yeah, it's snowing in Chicago too" and hardly a whisper about Australia.

    oh wow this is just scarry. I hope Ziggy and everyone else out there is safe and well. I got the chills reading the article Kat linked. I pray that it all ends well and everyone will be ok..

    they left the house they live in to go to her parents house which is up a hill. her whole family is there with their pets and they're in a bunker-like room under the kitchen. so at least she's not in their own house.

    Ziggy is a survivor with lots of common sense,
    we can be sure she made it to a shelter and that she will be ok.
    Prayers for Ziggy and all those there.

    Boy, she'll have some story to tell her kids someday. :shock:
