Says frontman Dave Grohl of the iTunes feat: "For an album made in my garage, totally analog to tape, without the help of any computers at all, to be iTunes' Album of the Year? It's inspiring! (and a wee bit ironic) To us it says that it's ok to sound like human beings, to be a little rough around the edges, to bring the human element back into music. It lets the next generation of kids know that it's ok to be imperfect and sound like actual people with actual instruments. So more than anything we thank you for that, iTunes!"

Awesome show again last night! Even though it was raining I don't think many people noticed, we were all having way too much fun. The show was just over 2.5 hours, they went on at 7.50 and finished just before 10.30. They could have played a lot more songs if they didn't jam on every song - Stacked Actors was 12 and a half minutes long! It was pretty full on until Cold Day in the Sun, pretty much the first chance they slowed down to catch their breath.

We were next to the walkway barrier on the right hand side. Dave ran past us a few times up and down the walkway. One of the security guys gave a pick to the kid next to us, his face just lit up! Dave's acoustic 'set' for the "people in the shitty seats" was cool - Wheels was described as "Nobody else likes this song - well apart from Germany! Fuck it, I like it!"

I love the fact that Foo Fighters always seem to enjoy every show these days. I know all bands tell the crowd how great they are and how much they love it, but I always get the impression that Dave really means it. There aren't many bands who could fill a stadium in shitty weather and still make sure every single person there had fun and screamed their lungs out. He did promise us that the next time they come to Sydney they'll play "the shitty little sweat box club down the street" though!

Starting with All My Life sounds AWESOME! Crowd goes apeshit to start the show, I bet! Also Generator and Long Road to Ruin back in the setlist?!?! Damn, two I really wanted in DC! Looks like an amazing show! The Foos are more than awesome live, I had a blast with em last month! :)

    Hey everybody,

Dave here. It's been quite a while since I've sat down to write something for you guys, but as we're coming to the end of an amazing tour and an amazing year, I figured I'd take this opportunity to say thank you....

    Where do I begin?

Thank you all for making "Wasting Light" the most incredible album experience of our band's 17 year history. For real. The fact that a rock and roll record, made in a garage, completely analog to tape with no help from computers, could be a #1 album around the world, AND get a Grammy nomination for "Album of the Year".....well....these days that's no small feat. It's truly inspiring, and it makes us feel like the luckiest band in the world. So thanks. It means everything to us.

And the shows......from the secret club gigs, to playing in peoples garages all over the country.....from the arenas to the festivals to the stadiums....we've had the best gigs of our lives. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who came out and spent those 2 hours and 45 minutes with us every night. It's been exhausting.....but it's been a blast.

Looking back at the past 18 months, I don't think we've ever worked so hard at making an album, and it ever being so easy. From day one, the idea for this record was to make something completely simple and honest, to capture that thing that happens when you put the 5 of us in a small room. No big production, just real rock and roll music: That's why we decided to do it in my garage. We wanted to retain that human element, keep all of those beautiful imperfections: That's why we went completely analog. And, most of all, we wanted it to sound huge: That's why we decided to use Butch Vig. His role in this whole experience is huge, and he deserves a great 'thanks', too. Not many producers would accept the challenge that we handed him. He's the best, for sure. Together, we made the album of a lifetime. Again.

And to all of you.....we're not finished yet. There are still more shows to play, more songs to write, more albums to record, for years to come. I mean.....If you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our 8th studio album....well.....

If it weren't for you guys, we wouldn't be here. We owe you so much.

    Take care of yourselves.

We'll see you out there, folks.

    Dave

The Foos are headlining a night of the Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, NJ in mid May next year! From their FB:

"Good mornin! Foo Fighters are playing this year's Bamboozle Fest at Asbury Park, NJ. The public onsale starts Saturday, but Foo Fighters fans get access to the presale starting today at 10am. The password is Asburypark.

The Bamboozle - Asbury Park, NJ - May 18-20
The Bamboozle 2012 Welcomes Foo Fighters!

Very interesting choice of festival....I remember when I was in 7th grade and wanted to go SO BAD because bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Paramore and the like (thank god I grew out of that music stage  ) were playing. The past few years especially they've mixed the artists up a bunch but still primarily a festival I wouldn't expect them to play! Oh well, cool anyways!

I know they had posters for some shows, but definitely not for all the ones played on this tour...I think maybe 1-2 actually had a poster.

The show I went to in Little Rock last May had a show specific poster. You would think if they had posters for a poorly attended show like that (all of the upper level and the back 3 sections of the lower level were tarped off) that they would have a poster for a big show like MSG.

Dave Grohl is producing a sitcom on FX: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dave-grohl-produces-rock-star-sitcom-20120202
"Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has signed on to executive produce a new half-hour comedy for FX starring comedian Dana Gould. The show, to be written by Gould, will be about a rock band on the verge of stardom which must go into therapy in order to keep themselves from breaking up. Unfortunately for the band, they end up with a misanthropic couples therapist on the brink of divorce.

Gould approached Grohl to get involved with the project, largely based on the rocker's reputation as a very funny dude. It's unclear whether Grohl will appear in the as-yet untitled show, or provide music for its soundtrack.

This isn't the comedian's first time working on a sitcom. He previously starred in Nolan Knows Best, a 2010 pilot developed for ABC. Gould is also writing a movie, Moon People, for Sony, and he hosts a popular podcast called The Dana Gould Hour."
