Weather: August is 80-90s

Red Rocks is not a viable option....
Seating Capacity...9.450 ....NOT enough
NO Camping in and or around the Red Rocks Park (there is some camping at nearby bear Creek lake but only a small amount and only first come first served)
NOT Enough parking
NO hotels nearby
Parts of the summer schedule have already been posted and are starting to go on sale
I say Deer Creek in Indiana. This location fits the bill for all the criteria. I would prefer it be at Alpine Valley but I don't think the camping they have proposed will meet the demands for these shows. They do have Bong State recreation area nearby which has camping if you like getting pulled over for doing 10mph in 5mph zone which happened to us in 1998. Then again we looked like a bunch of burnout kids with Illinois plates so we were probably profiled. :lolno:
The sell out mark for Bonnaroo is about 80,000 tickets. That includes VIP which I think might be around 8,000 tickets each year. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Bonnaroo is the only event they have had at this location so far, but Superfly is looking to do more with it.
Here is a part of Heavy Hands' transcript of the Sirius show where Kelly Curtis first mentioned the weekend (the next show Tim said it is not a festival) for those that haven't heard the show:
TR: It definitely does and the way that the band has done things has made them the special way that they are and enabled them to keep going and providing and putting on the shows that they do. And I think we're all very thankful for it.
Do you think the band would ever consider doing their own type of festival like Wilco recently did?
KC: You know, we're messing around with something for next summer some sort of 20th anniversary weekend... party. Somewhere in the middle of the country. We're trying to figure that out right now.
TR: WOW!
KC: Like a destination weekend... party. You know?
TB: Do you think people would like that Rob?
TR: You heard it here first folks!
*laughter*
TR: I feel the internet buzzing right now! *laughs*
KC: It'd be kind of fun right?
TR: That's some great news. Uhhh, yeah!
KC: With camping and all that kind of stuff?
TB: Camping yeah!
TR: Bring it on! Bring it on! Alright lets bring on some callers too *gives out the number*
'Somewhere in the middle of the country.' There is that 'somewhere'
'With camping and all that kind of stuff'.
What's this about it not being a festival but there will be camping? That doesn't sound right. Does that mean we'd have to buy tickets for each night? They should do a proper festival that includes everything (camping, all shows, and "all that kind of stuff") but it seems like that might not be the case. I hope they don't screw this up.

It's pretty clear that there's camping... if there's camping it will be more like festival than just a two night run... it has to be a traditional festival location

Further confirmation... Kelly Curtis was quoted again in Rolling Stone's 1/20/11 issue, saying that the "destination music festival" that PJ is staging this summer will not be in Seattle, but "somewhere in the middle of the country." Ugh, still no real answers.
Yea, no real news, except that should eliminate The Gorge guess.
the Gorge is 3 hours away from Seattle...right in the middle of Washington state.....we don't consider the Gorge 'Seattle' more like "the other side of the mountains' or 'Eastern Washington' .
'Middle of the country' still could mean 'Pearl Jam Country'...a stretch I know...but...lots of camping, hotels and restuarants nearby (20 minute drive).
I had this strange thought. Kelly said "destination". It made me think of destination weddings. What if the "middle of the country" in not the US? It could be something like this: http://paradisegroove.com/index.php .
I would love if PJ did a concert cruise like 311 but I don"t think Ed would want to be on a ship with with no where to escape to.

A concert cruise??? Uh...lest I sound like a snob, but that is SO NOT Pearl Jam...no way that happens (thank god -- that sounds awful). Sorry. :?

I'd be cool with that! That's a great area. You could do a 10c float trip!
Hah! That would be too good to be true for a guy from St. Paul. Oh man...I didn't even think of Somerset. The shows I've seen there! Edge-Fest, then X-Fest, then Ozzfest , then Vans Warped Tour...hahaha so many bad bands. Ugh one's past as an American teenager can be embarrassing...
I saw HORDE fest there with Natalie Merchant, Lenny Kravitz (who was amazing!), Rusted Root, and Blues Traveler back in 97. I bet the place holds what, like 20,000 maybe? And there's camping...win win!

Just to mention again..."somewhere in the middle of the country" does not mean geographically the center part of the US. It could mean the "middle of the country" as in the woods...just pulling for the middle of Jersey's country. Like some farm or winery!!
If I don't see you no more in this world, I'll meet you on the next one...

Honestly, to me anywhere that is inside of the coastline states is middle of the country to me. Vegas makes sense in sooooo many ways.
I realize that this is now coming to you 3rd hand, but my wife's boss, a Wisconsin resident, just mentioned that Alpine Valley has recently been approved for camping, for whatever that's worth. a quick google news search for "Alpine Valley Camping" yielded nothing, but still....
Perhaps a certain band pushed a certain venue to get a permit to allow camping to make it easier for their fans from around the country (world) who are descending onto a rural location to attend a 2 day festival celebrating an anniversary of said band?

"I think the cart is maybe ahead of the horse on that one. We’ve been working on trying to do something like this for a few years but it’s still in the infancy stage. I think we’re going to do some shows this fall, not really sure where we’re going to do the shows but I think we’d like to include at least kind of the first version of what this festival could be like. I think we’re going to try to include that in with that group of shows. But it’s a full on work in progress right now there’s lots of hurdles to get over at this point to get it right. I think we want it to be semi right before we do it.”

I'm also rather surprised this has fallen back to the 3rd page of the forum, 'cause if this quote from Jeff is recent, it kind of takes the wind out of everyone's sails on planning/excitement for an anticipated festival....
