PJ20 Anniversary Location - Your Best Guess? **1/31 UPDATE**

edited April 2011 in The Porch
So I know speculation and anticipation has pretty much gone through the roof here, but I'm trying to narrow down where the show might actually be. Logically, if we all put our heads together (particularly those of us who live "somewhere in the middle of the country"), we could narrow down the most likely locations, couldn't we? From there, we could probably narrow down dates, right? Let's give it a shot.

***1/31/11 Update***I've added a few more locations but there are still a lot of locations posted by people. If you posted it, provide the details for it! There's been some comments from Jeff lately that make a lot of us concerned that a weekend festival may not be happening, but we still have no "official" news. Here's to hoping for a summer weekend festival. If you posted the location, provide the details.

-Alpine Valley - East Troy, WI
-Outdoor ampitheatre - Detroit Lakes, MN
-Chillicothe, IL (north-central, IL)
-Wrigley Field/Soldier Field/Grant Park - Chicago, IL
-Outdoor venue - St. Louis, MO
-Iowa State Fair - Des Moines, IA
-Mulberry Mountain - Ozark, AR
-Aurora, CO
-Bonner Springs, KS
Capacity: 18,000
Camping: no; 15 miles from Kansas City
Seating: 3,100 boxed/reserved seats, rest is general admission
Weather: average for August is 87 F
Venue: open air ampitheater
Availability: venue is available last weekend of August
-Rothbury, MI
-Great Stage Park - Manchester, TN (where Bonnaroo is)
Capacity: 90,000?
Camping: yes
Seating: general admission
Weather: 80-85 in August
Venue: park/lawn
Availability: no summer lineup yet
-Red Rocks Ampitheater - Morrison, CO
Capacity: 9,450
Camping: yes
Seating: shows can be all reserved or all general admission
Weather: August is 80-90s
Venue: Ampitheater
Availability: summer lineup announced in March/April
-Austin, TX

-Verizon Music Center - Noblesville, IN
Capacity: 24,000
Camping: yes; hotels nearby
Seating: 6,000 pavilion seasts; 18,000 general admission lawn seats
Weather: 75-85 F in late August
Venue: Ampitheater
Availability: Late summer not announced yet

Of these locations, what are the capacities for attendance? Do they have camping? Reserved seating in parts? How accessible are they? Hotels nearby? What's the weather like in that area in August? Is the venue an ampitheatre? What is the date availability for August at the location?

If you posted the location, try to provide answers to the questions above. Then, we can start eliminating locations if they don't sound like viable options.

Ok, you've got some tasks...go!

Ok the Gorge in Washington can't be your best guess because that's clearly not in "somewhere in the middle of the country." I thought we cleared that up. This isn't "where do you hope the show will be?"; its "what's your best guess where the show will be?"

In addition to Lollapalooza, let's add the Gorge to the list. And anywhere else that's not "somewhere in the middle of the country."

See? This is what I'm talking about. I've never heard of Chillicothe (because I'm not from IL), but that's as good a guess as any. There's gotta be hundreds of outdoor venues (I suppose I'm assuming its outdoors) throughout the middle of the country. If we compile a list, some good venue options might start to appear.

    Good call!

Well, then Chicago is out too.

So, are we limited to the state of Kansas? It actually is in the middle of the country.

Defining the middle of the country is tough, but I think its safe to say the coasts are definitely out. So that means no Gorge and no Maine. I'm looking at you Dedvw!

I think its reasonable to call "the middle of the country" anywhere from MN/WI/IL to KS/MO the "middle of the country." I don't include MN because I'm from there, but because that whole area is referred to as "the midwest." Probably a safe assumption. That's why I'm looking for show locales in those areas, just to get a raw list of possibilities. Maybe, as the excitement picks up, we can start to narrow down available weekends from that list and see where it might realistically be held.

In any event, no matter how you define the "middle of the country," it doesn't include the coasts. Sorry Gorge. I'd love to make a trip there but I don't think that's where the show's going to be...

Why do people automatically interpret 'middle of the country' to mean the middle of the US?

It could just mean not in the city.

I don't think it will be a 'venue'...
with the early hype they are creating for this event, and the possibility of it being a festival style, multiple band celebration, I say it going to be held in a festival style field setup, complete with camping...

by the way, who said it would be in the middle of the US country?
what happened to those Toronto rumors 2 summers ago for Downsview park?

haha...just kidding...I have not doubt it will be in the states

    Gorge has a capacity though...
I mean somewhere with a fairly unlimited number of tickets

    a) I don't think the 10c will want to listen to people whine about not getting tickets
    b) I don't think the 10c will want to listen to the people who got tickets whine about where their tickets are located

Honestly though, I have a feeling its going to be somwehere in the midwest.

    s

    Ummmm....Kelly Curtis said it.

2-1 odds it's Alpine. it's the place that makes the most sense. lake geneva is not too far off, so hotels are relatively close by for the out of towners. They have camping available, it holds 35K-40K or something, so unlimited TC tickets shouldn't be an issue (probably everyone would be able to get pavilion seats since the pavilion is rather large), and it's Alpine, one of the best places to see an outdoor show in the country. Plus, although Alpine was supposed to happen in 2009, it hasn't seen PJ since 2003 (which just so happened to be one of the highlights of the 2003 tour).
