my guess is that it will not be a venue at all but a fairgrounds/coachella type place. it wouldnt be much of a festival inside of an arena. PearlJamstock 2011

But I'm having trouble imagining that the PJ/10Club camp will select a place w/ a hard capacity.

I think they would want every club member and/or PJ fan to be able to go for the entire weekend. The demand for tickets will exceed 40000, in my opinion.

Why not a college football stadium in Big Ten country? I know the site needs to be near mass lodging possibilities, but I think the organizers will do their best to select a venue w/ room for 75000+.

Otherwise, folks may be limited to one show during the weekend to make sure there's enough spots to go around.

    .

Do you think ALOT of people will travel far distance, to be able to ONLY go to one show? Hell, i'm only about a 1,000 miles away, from the middle of the country, and i'm not sure i would travel for just one show.

I have no idea where it will be, as i live on the east coast. I hope its not in some open field somewhere, or a complete GA show. Though, i wouldn't mind having a good seat, i'm more concern with having a good sound system. I always say: I know what they look like. I just want to be able to hear them CLEARLY>

Oh yea, does anyone think ther will be a public sale for this, or will it be just for the 10 Club?

Limestone Maine, just like Phish did with the "IT" festival.

Oh my God, that would be fantastic...

Technically, neither is Chicago. Kansas is the only actual middle of the lower 48. But, I don't think Tim meant it that literal.

I am sticking with the Gorge. ;)

On one of The Gorge boots, I think maybe the first one in the box set, Ed mentions that it's a great location, but that it's a lot to ask for people to come all the way out there. That makes me think that they may have another site in mind.
But, they have already gone back out there since saying that. I guess because it is that special of a place. ;)

There is a location south of Alpine Valley that they hold an event called Country Thunder every year. It is a festival type atmosphere in a field with plenty of camping on site. I've never attended as it's not my kind of music but you can see the stage from the nearby road. I'm not sure how the sound is, but it is an option that would probably work and be the kind of place everyone is speculating it will be held at.

Just an idea, not saying I want it here. My choice would be Alpine Valley.

I think it will be at Red Rocks. Colorado is close to the middle isn't it? I do think an open field type show would be more fun but that seems like it would be much harder to pull off. Whatever it is I hope I'm on break from school and that they let us know fairly soon. :D

I don't think it's too hard to imagine PJ selling out a 40k venue for a one off 20 year anniversary show, they always have well attended shows in the Chicago/Milwaukee area and if it does turn out to be a one off show (albeit weekend) then fans are going to flock from all over the world, nevermind the States.

OK. So I originally posted Bonner Springs KS but I'm not sure it would really work. The venue is Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone in Bonner Springs, KS. It is an open air amphitheatre that has a capacity of 18,000. Of those 18K 3100 are boxed and reserved seats. The location does not allow camping but is available the weekend of August 26, 27 and 28th. The average August temperature for this weekend is 87 degrees. Its 15 miles from Kansas City so there is plenty of lodging and dining.

I just hope it's somewhere NOT completely centered around camping. I've read many times that the great thing about Chicago Lollapolooza or Austin City Limits is that it's in the center of a big city... when it's over, you just walk (or take public transportation/cab) to your hotel and go to sleep. I hope it's something like that, where the lodging is not in tents for a whole weekend, but there are hotels close enough that you don't have to drive 1-2 hours after the end of a long day to go to sleep.

Red Rocks would be absolutely amazing btw, but I just don't think it's big enough. I think it only holds 8,000. With as much as this is going to get hyped up, even 20,000 seaters will probably completely sell out immediately.

Ok the Gorge in Washington can't be your best guess because that's clearly not in "somewhere in the middle of the country." I thought we cleared that up. This isn't "where do you hope the show will be?"; its "what's your best guess where the show will be?"

In addition to Lollapalooza, let's add the Gorge to the list. And anywhere else that's not "somewhere in the middle of the country."

When was it ever decided that this event could only go down somewhere in the "middle of the country"? I could easily see this weekend event happening in the Seattle or greater WA area personally. I mean it is where the band originated from and all.

"To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Pearl Jam will headline their own music festival next summer, according to the band's manager, Kelly Curtis. Details and line-up are expected to be announced early next year, although Curtis did reveal the fest would be a "destination weekend party" (similar to Phish's own summer festivals) and take place "somewhere in the middle of the country." [Spinner] "

Now I know where everyone's getting the "middle of the country" rumor from! Wow, this should be pretty interesting!

Here is a part of Heavy Hands' transcript of the Sirius show where Kelly Curtis first mentioned the weekend (the next show Tim said it is not a festival) for those that haven't heard the show:

TR: It definitely does and the way that the band has done things has made them the special way that they are and enabled them to keep going and providing and putting on the shows that they do. And I think we're all very thankful for it.

Do you think the band would ever consider doing their own type of festival like Wilco recently did?

KC: That's funny you mention that.

*Tim Bierman knowingly, amusingly, subtly laughs...*

    TR: Hmmmm!

KC: You know, we're messing around with something for next summer some sort of 20th anniversary weekend... party. Somewhere in the middle of the country. We're trying to figure that out right now.

    TR: WOW!

KC: Like a destination weekend... party. You know?

TB: Do you think people would like that Rob?

TR: You heard it here first folks!

    *laughter*

TR: I feel the internet buzzing right now! *laughs*

KC: It'd be kind of fun right?

TR: That's some great news. Uhhh, yeah!

KC: With camping and all that kind of stuff?

    TB: Camping yeah!

TR: Bring it on! Bring it on! Alright lets bring on some callers too *gives out the number*

This would be awesome! Saw them there in 2003, great show, possibly the best of the three i've been to. Also i've been thinking about a K.C. road trip for the summer so, this would be perfect! But I have a bad feeling that it won't happen though... anyway, no matter where it is i'll try my best to be there. My second choice would be Red Rocks, never been there but it looks like a wonderful place to see a show.

oh ya...Imagine the divots in the grass and people pissing in the Ivy. I don't think the Cubs or that neighborhood is going to let that happen.

Clearly, the middle of the country is somewhere in the Midwest, so the Gorge is eliminated (duh!). Alpine Valley Wisconsin makes the most sense since it is (3 hours) close to a Major City and one of the busiest airports in the world.

I agree with this. I would love to go to the Gorge again (it is in the middle of the Washington Country  ) but Dick's Sporting Goods Field would make a great "festival" venue.

My bet is on Alpine Valler or Chicago too but i will also throw out Aurora, CO (15 miles east of Denver) where they hold Mile High Festival. Dmb and Petty have headlined. Multi-band set up. Close to Denver airport which is major airport.

I agree with this. I would love to go to the Gorge again (it is in the middle of the Washington Country  ) but Dick's Sporting Goods Field would make a great "festival" venue.

Dick's would be better though no camping and not many close in hotels or restaurants.
