haha i hear ya. hiking the entrance to Red Rocks is a bitch! it'll sober you up in a hurry. The secret is to drive up and up and up and park really far away, but you can enter from the top rather than mountain of a staircase at the bottom.

I think the guesses about Alpine Valley are on the right track.

But I'm having trouble imagining that the PJ/10Club camp will select a place w/ a hard capacity.

I think they would want every club member and/or PJ fan to be able to go for the entire weekend. The demand for tickets will exceed 40000, in my opinion.

Why not a college football stadium in Big Ten country? I know the site needs to be near mass lodging possibilities, but I think the organizers will do their best to select a venue w/ room for 75000+.

Otherwise, folks may be limited to one show during the weekend to make sure there's enough spots to go around.

    .

Do you think ALOT of people will travel far distance, to be able to ONLY go to one show? Hell, i'm only about a 1,000 miles away, from the middle of the country, and i'm not sure i would travel for just one show.

I have no idea where it will be, as i live on the east coast. I hope its not in some open field somewhere, or a complete GA show. Though, i wouldn't mind having a good seat, i'm more concern with having a good sound system. I always say: I know what they look like. I just want to be able to hear them CLEARLY>

Oh yea, does anyone think ther will be a public sale for this, or will it be just for the 10 Club?

Yes, I absolutely think ALOT of people would travel extensively for this event. If it is billed as 20th anniversary weekend, it will be bigger than the average Pearl Jam concert.

They pack 20000+ into New York City & Chicago arenas, to name a couple. Why wouldn't the demand be more for an event like this? Easily 50000, but I figure a Pearl Jam weekend would yield an even bigger number.

Ok the Gorge in Washington can't be your best guess because that's clearly not in "somewhere in the middle of the country." I thought we cleared that up. This isn't "where do you hope the show will be?"; its "what's your best guess where the show will be?"

In addition to Lollapalooza, let's add the Gorge to the list. And anywhere else that's not "somewhere in the middle of the country."

When was it ever decided that this event could only go down somewhere in the "middle of the country"? I could easily see this weekend event happening in the Seattle or greater WA area personally. I mean it is where the band originated from and all.

As cool as it would be to see them at Red Rocks, I think it is too small unless it is a 10c only show.

All this speculation about Alpine...but didn't Kelly Curtis also mention in that same broadcast that they have attempted to book Alpine in the past, but the venue and PJ couldn't agree on the parking situation. Does anyone else remember this? My first choice would def be the Gorge, but how about Deer Creek Amphitheater in Indiana. The Dead used to play there and it was a pretty good scene and about the right size (25k-30k)

Attendance will depend on if the band is on tour or not.

If this is the only show they play in 2011 it will be insanity and require a venue that holds major festivals, but if they do a mini tour with this as the culmination I think the "weekend" could be a series of shows at a typical venue.

I can't believe Manchester TN isn't the early favorite because I think Kelly really reiterated CAMPING, and Alpine only has camping for a few thousand people, and there is no camping at the Grant Park Lolla area.

Red Rocks would be sweet - but far for me.

Alpine is closer..would love that too.

Great Stage Park - it's now owned by those who run Bonnaroo..almost no chance the festival would be here, but it would be cool no doubt.

I remember it. Heck, I was the guy who asked him about it! But I also asked if it was still a possibilty that they would still go back there and Kelly said "Anything is possible." Guess we just gotta wait and see!

Really they didn't play a show because they couldn't agree on the parking?! What was the issue?

I have a feeling that Austin, TX should be mentioned. For some reason it just gets overlooked. They can put on a large festival there (ACL has been running for how long?) for several days, the city is a huge musical magnet, and it is a hell of a place to visit.

I still like the ideas of Chicago, Alpine Valley, etc., but Austin is at the top of my list.

I say Deer Creek in Indiana. This location fits the bill for all the criteria. I would prefer it be at Alpine Valley but I don't think the camping they have proposed will meet the demands for these shows. They do have Bong State recreation area nearby which has camping if you like getting pulled over for doing 10mph in 5mph zone which happened to us in 1998. Then again we looked like a bunch of burnout kids with Illinois plates so we were probably profiled. :lolno:

Hah! That would be too good to be true for a guy from St. Paul. Oh man...I didn't even think of Somerset. The shows I've seen there! Edge-Fest, then X-Fest, then Ozzfest, then Vans Warped Tour...hahaha so many bad bands. Ugh one's past as an American teenager can be embarrassing... :D

So I know speculation and anticipation has pretty much gone through the roof here, but I'm trying to narrow down where the show might actually be. Logically, if we all put our heads together (particularly those of us who live "somewhere in the middle of the country"), we could narrow down the most likely locations, couldn't we? From there, we could probably narrow down dates, right? Let's give it a shot. Obviously, we're looking for a "middle of the country" location, so let's not make this a list of where you wish the show was, but where it might reasonably be.

My hunch is that its going to be some sort of weekend-camping type deal (given the "destination weekend" language that's been used). Here's my best guesses from my neck of the woods (in no particular order):

    1. Alpine Valley (southeastern WI)
    2. Detroit Lakes, MN (northwestern, MN)

Both locations hold huge festivals and concerts every summer, have tons of camping and are known for their shows and their music. I've only been to Alpine Valley once, but I know its got a lot of shows each year. I've never been to the Detroit Lakes venue, but the biggest country music fest in the US is held there every year and Dave Matthews Band has played there several times.

Those are two POSSIBLE locales that could definitely host around where I'm from. But I'm looking to the rest of you "middle of the country" people; what locations in your area do you think it could happen at? If we can get a good list going, we could perhaps narrow things down based on the venues' summer schedules...it'll be fun!

    So let's here em'!

PS Here's a place where I don't think its going to be: Lollapalooza. Just sayin'...

***UPDATE*** If we go ahead with our first assumption (that the "middle of the country" is "the midwest"), here's a list of possible locations. I think that's a safe assumption, so I'm leaving out locations that are on the coasts. Sorry guys. Let's explore these locations for other details now (date availability, capacity, accessibility etc).

Alpine Valley - East Troy, WI
Outdoor ampitheatre - Detroit Lakes, MN
    Chillicothe, IL (north-central, IL)
    Wrigley Field/Soldier Field/Grant Park - Chicago, IL
Outdoor venue - St. Louis, MO
Iowa State Fair - Des Moines, IA
    Mulberry Mountain - Ozark, AR
    Aurora, CO
    Bonner Springs, KS
    Rothbury, MI
Great Stage Park - Manchester, TN (where Bonnaroo is)
Red Rocks Ampitheatre - Morrison, CO

Of these locations, what are the capacities for attendance? Do they have camping? Reserved seating in parts? How accessible are they? Hotels nearby? What's the weather like in that area in August? Is the venue an ampitheatre? What is the date availability for August at the location?

If we can make some more assumptions about these next details, we should be able to eliminate a few locations and start narrowing down the list. If you posted the location, try to provide answers to the questions above.

    Ok, you've got some tasks...go!

Don't forget to add Chicagoland raceway. That can hold well over 100,000 people if it was a huge festival.

the Gorge is 3 hours away from Seattle...right in the middle of Washington state.....we don't consider the Gorge 'Seattle' more like "the other side of the mountains' or 'Eastern Washington' .
'Middle of the country' still could mean 'Pearl Jam Country'...a stretch I know...but...lots of camping, hotels and restuarants nearby (20 minute drive).
