I can see trouble coming with this one, beatings , harassment or worse.

then why are homosexuals always referred to as the gay and lesbian community? a bit redundant, isn't it?
For what it's worth, one of my close friends at work is gay and she complains that she can never figure out what she's supposed to call herself because someone's always changing the terms (she gave up on the LGBT groups when the Q, I, and S got thrown in there because she could never remember what anything stood for). And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

That would be grotesque;but hey, we're dealing with humans, so nothing would shock me.
I just want the damn kids to come home - black, white, asian, gay, straight - just bring them home!0 -

I would hope so ,but with all the young new recruits and the ol' salty dogs already in place the human element is not always what we would hope for especially in a war situation where tempers and rational thought might not be so understanding, I still stand by the "don't ask don't tell" policy and come to think of it why is it so important for gays to have this ruling knowing full well that it could be a disaster for some of them ?

I hope you are right, and in my posts I was being sarcastic I don't think that the military would allow such things as cross dressers and Richard Simmons types to dance around in a swishy manor, in the end it is what it is and hopefully people will respect each other.

I'm pretty damn certain that they can handle knowing that they have a gay guy in their tent... chances are they knew the guy was gay anyhow.
I never really understood what people were afraid of. Are hetero soldiers afraid that a gay soldier is going to assualt them in the barracks, or in the washroom at the officers club? If that is the case logically you shoud completely segrate the military so that people aren't afraid of men assualting women or vice versa. Or are people afraid that a gay soldier might be checking out a straight soldier in the shower and make him feel uncomfortable. If that is the case changing and showering at a local gym would be a way bigger risk. And really why would most people assume that someone would want to check them out in the shower, I am a straight guy and probably the majority of women out there I wouldn't be interested in seeing in the shower.
Plus I wonder what is going to happen to the members of the military who were kicked out during DADT? If you were an officer who was kicked out can you come back in and do you get to keep your old rank?0 -

I don't get it either... apparently the feeling is that gay guys can't control their urges or something? I think it's pretty egotistical (and delusional) that just because you are a dude, all gay guys want you.
It's funny, a goalie that played for our mens league hockey team for a couple of seasons (and filled in for years) is gay... watching how some people in the locker room acted when he was around cracked me up. Some guys either rushed to get in the shower before him, or waited until he was done. I've seen myself naked plenty of times, and I'm pretty confident that he wasn't going to be checking me out lol.My whole life

I asked a friend of mine in the navy last night what he thought about it, the fact that the gay military men are gay ain't so much of a problem they can kinda tell who is and who is not gay anyway...no big deal, one of the problems is liberty off the ship there is no rooming with a female....see where this is going ?
so anyway it sounds to me like a double standard of rules that sparks a little controversy but he did tell me that most military members agree with the don't ask don't tell rule.

I foresee new lawsuits, “he made me do more sit ups than the rest because I’m gay” when the real reason is he or she sucked as a solder Will an accident by friendly fire become a hate crime?
Maybe they should have let the enlisted vote on this one… but now once again we have the politicians in there comfortable rooms making decisions for the solders on the battled field…
They can’t seem to handle the real problems so they waste time with this……“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln0 -

it really begs the question ... what really is the issue here? ... what is the real problem in the land of freedom and liberty?0 -
I think it's a bunch of crap, if a man wants everybody to know he enjoys sex with other men why does it have to be a military issue,DADT was just fine this "we're queer and we're here" is getting a annoying.
freekin weird in my opinion.

you need to ask yourself why it's weird to you ... why is it weird that something that is pretty much a non-issue with every other NATO nation is a problem for you ... ??0 -

I am wondering why it is an issue too. I mean the US military totally likes to play it up like they have the toughest most badass service people on the planet. But if these people are so badass, why wouldn't they be able to handle working with a homosexual?0 -

1. Man-in man sodomy is now accepted in the US military.
2. Russia and China must be laughing their asses off.
3. It's a fucking disgrace.

blackredyellow wrote:As I was watching clips from a recent hearing on this (like a month ago), the first thing I noticed about all of those who were speaking out against repealing this law, were how old they were. Yes, it was in the senate, so most of the people were shriveled up old white dudes, but I just got me thinking how much of a generational issues this is.
I'm 36, and I don't think I personally know one person around my age who is against repealing this law (or even gay marriage). A couple generations from now when the old, anti-gay crowd is pretty much gone, it will be names like John McCain, which will be shown as the example of people who were behind the times, like Strom Thurmond and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
I've never served in the military, but seeing what we ask these young men and women to endure - the stress, the danger, the heat, the unsanitary conditions, the time away form families, etc... If they can handle most of that, I'm pretty damn certain that they can handle knowing that they have a gay guy in their tent... chances are they knew the guy was gay anyhow.
I like what you say here BlackRedYellow, and I was begining to think you made a great point, but then I read some of the comments that even people in here (who I assume are younger than McCain) said... they say its a disgrace that some people should be treated equally, and all I can imagine is that their great grandparents are alive inside of them and that some will just never break out of the rut of narrowmindedness.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0
