Combination....

Temlett was good, Anderson, Swann and Finn were all decent, not great though.

Aussies played some loose shots. Like Clarke didnt move his feet, and just dangled the bat at the ball and got caught behind. That was a disgrace

Hughes trying to play across the line when he should have played straight got bowled

Ponting was looking ok, then Collingwood pulled off a ripper....

England are too good. I am still shattered though...

Thank goodness for Huss, haddin Johnson and Siddle. A bit of respectability.

well this is the 3rd ground we have played in...and the wicket changes over the period of a test..(5days of footmarks etc)

By the wicket they are talking about the centre of the ground/pitch where the bowling/batting occurs.

So each wicket plays differently and will change during a match as it breaks up from the players running on it and the ball being bowled on it.

Yep, some are good for fast bowling (like the WACA), some are good for spinners (ike SCG and India) some are good for batting (Adelaide). All depends on the coverage of grass an moisture in the pitch.

i didnt think tremlett was that good ...2 of his wickets you just have to us..lazy..didnt even need to be played at.

Wickets are often different at other venues. Some can be bouncy, produce more turn etc. Some can last better than others. Some wickets can break up badly during a test which will send the ball all over the place. I understood the Perth pitch was meant to be a bouncy one and England never seem to do well there.

He was still your best bowler regardless of the digits in the wicket column. Some of the bounce he got was crazy

Anderson (and don't get me wrong, I rate the bloke highly) wasn't at his best today. Swann was nothing special, good ball to Hussey, that was about it. Finn bowled ok also....

He bowled too fast, needed to slow it up. Plus he was bowling with the breeze, not against it (which is not good for a spinner imo)

He had a good ball to Hussey, and he got out Hilfenhaus. I reckon Black Diamond could get Hilf out.

Not saying he was bad, just not as good as he can be.

I was just thinking that it would be a shame if Ponting gets dropped/retires during this low.

To me, in my bout 18 years following the game, he is in the top 3 batsman that I have seen. Lara, Tendulkar, Ponting. I think someone as great as he deserves to go out on a high. If/When Australia lose the ashes, I hope he can get a few scores and go out on a semi high. I have a feeling this will be the last summer for him. But the bad thing is we don't have anyone else.

Edit: I should have raised my bat at some point in this thread. I past 4000 posts on here. 4000 posts of pure dribble, and anyone who has read my posts are stupider for doing so. So I raise my bat...

Tough question that. He is very inconsistent. So when he gets it right, yes, but when he gets it wrong, no.

Australia always place a big importance on him for what he CAN do, not what he does on a consistent basis. Today my friends is what he can do.

Probably the best spell of the summer out of all bowlers....
