The boys are off to a good start....me like :D Still would go with Riemer, I think he deserves that much. But Bernier is going to push him and like kenshunt says "can never have to many good goalies" Someone is going to hurt during the yr. Solid tandem

article said carlysle likes having two good goalies push each other like byzgalov and giguere did in anaheim ...

although reimer played well opening night ... i don't like the last 2 goals he gave up and near the end of the game - he looked like he lost some of that composure ... bernier looks quite calm ...

man 3-0 great start. Gotta say Bernier looked great in relief last night. Is it me or does Phaneuf look like crap this yr? not that I think he is great or anything, but he looks like he is fighting the puck, trouble following the play. I hope they don't open the wallet up for him and give him around 6 Million or something a yr, he isn't worth that IMO

He should go with Bernier ... the kid deserves the opportunity. I'm not sold on Reimer as a number 1, need to find out if Bernier can be the man. Toronto should put a package together of Phanoef and Reimer to Edmonton ...

oh like that deal....who you thinking in return, they wouldn't give up any of their big 3. They got so many decent prospects too....Wouldn't want Yakopov either

If the leafs could get Dubnyk as a backup to Bernier and maybe a 2nd round pick ... not particularly sure what Reimer and Phanoef are worth ... but Edmonton looks like they are struggling in goal and defensively ... so they seem like a possible trade partner.

I agree no way they trade away one of the big 3 ... not unless its a blockbuster deal.

Not sold yet on Riemer being a solid #1 yet either, I like him, but has to prove a little more first. Wouldn't want to give the riens completely over to Bernier yet...don't get me wrong, he looks like he could be a #1 though.
But if they could do that package deal, I think Phaneuf & Riemer together could atleast command a top 6 starting forward in return....no more D men for us, we got to many now

phaneuf is once again rated the most over-rated player in the nhl by his peers ... he's picked it up a bit offensively so far this year but he is not the lock down defender he gets played as ... reimer is not an elite goalie ... i would trade reimer if his value is high but I do believe in the philosophy of having two solid goalies ... bernier looks like he could be elite ...

It's great to have the Leafs back. Can't wait to see how things progress and change throughout the season. I'm feeling another post-season coming.

Bernier definitely the #1 ... morgan rielly is looking better every shift! ... if this team ever develops the work ethic that most championship teams have ... they could make a run ...

Very excited to get Clarkson in the mix and see what that brings.

I was very happy for Reimer last night.

honestly ... i like reimer but he's really not that good fundamentally ... he's often scrambling and he looks so overwhelmed sometimes ... he had a lot of luck last night ... sometimes it looks like he made a great save simply because he was out of position to begin with ...

it's weird watching this team this year ... they look so much better but not sure why they are constantly out shot and have such slow starts ...

Last night he made 3 straight great saves, when bernier only would need 1. Reimer never looks in control - but it was a good game for him.

Last night's shot differential was (in part) a result of all those penalties. McClement played the most minutes ever as a leaf. It was a weird game for sure.

ya ... you nailed it ... i think it also manifests itself in the play in front of him ... there just seems to be more plays with reimer when we're scrambling in the defensive zone ...

that mcclement line looked awesome last night on both sides of that ice ... i wonder what the lines will be if the team is all healthy? ... assuming bozak-kessel-jvr stay together ... i like kadri-lupul-clarkson ... then bolland-mcclement-raymond ...

Things are getting bad for us leaf fans..

This will be an important week, bring back Peter holland, ditch ranger ( he might be the worst defenseman if all time) keep Bernier in net

this team is horrible in the defensive end ... no one skates ... they've made up for it by being pretty good offensively but that will only work out so long ...

phaneuf logs too many minutes ... i'm not sure if that is the reason he is bad or not ...

He's played well this year comparatively but I think phaneuf is the least if our concerns on the back end

really ... we need 2 things ... a good coach and a lockdown defender ... the latter being harder to come by ...
  • lukin2006lukin2006 Posts: 9,087
A new gm should be in order ... Is he not the one who handed dion that contract. And yes a new coach and shutdown D man would help. But most importantly ... better talent evaluation is in order, if it was Rask would still be a leaf.

and maybe thats what shanny will bring to the job a little patience in letting talent develop before giving up on someone.
