    Another Tool horrible opening act....

Went to see them at Red Rocks this June and some rapper named Dalek opened. I couldn't understand a word he was saying because his backing music was so loud and distorted. Some people sitting in front of us actually had their fingers in their ears. Rappers at Tool shows is a big no-no.

I've seen a lot of other bad opening acts but I can't recall their names at this time.

i agree. I honestly think Ben Harpers fanbase would be about 6 people if it wasnt for the PJ seal of approval... if members of PJ told their 'fans' that they liked Nigerian trumpeter Kino Von Basske his sales would probably increase by some 179% so that people on here could 'like' the same things as Ed

Utter horse shit I tell you! Ben Harper's got loads of great songs, exhibit A:

Can't rememebr the band but whoever opened for Korn at the FU Center in philly in 2000?

Also there was this band that opened up for Jerry Cantrell in '02 (For the Degradation Trip tour) that was really bad. There were like 4 or 5 bands including Madball and the band that William DuVall was in) that opened up for him.

Bella Fleck opening for DMB at the Vet in '99 was bad.

I remember seeing the Beastie Boys about 5 years ago and they had a dog act opening for them. This year Neil Hamburger (comedian) opened for Faith No More.

I have no opinion towards Ben Harper either way, but it's pretty true that people here seem to jump on bandwagons for bands that Ed likes. And, God forbid you don't...

I agree with sonic youth. Saw them open in Los Angeles in 06 And I honestly couldn't decipher one song from the other. It was sheer reverb for 45 minutes. It sounded less like music and more like broken equipment.

2 cents opening for Korn. They were getting pissed at the crowd cause no body was moshing and going nuts. They stopped and yelled at the crowd asking if we were at an emo show. Then they said they were going to play a Pantera cover (strength beyond strength), and wanted the crowd to go insane. like two rows of people respectfully started a mini mosh. Crowd went nuts for Korn though.

Foxy shazam opening for Hole (courtney love). Just a really bizarre band that I thought was bland.

Kanye West supporting U2 on their late 2006 tour of Australia. I know Kanye is a talented rapper, but on the night I saw him, the sound was bad and he couldn't get around the fact he was playing in front of 80,000 people who where there to see U2, and not him.

that tune itself was ok... his voice just bugs the shit out of me... but it was no swaggering beast

i stand by my original critique of Ben Harper... i've heard stuff thats been thrown at me before and not one bit of it grabs me... I also think his voice spoils Indifference and Under Pressure was not that good cos of his wailing.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

wow, never in a million years would I have thought I'd see Bela Fleck in this thread. They might be one of the best bands on the planet, serious talent in that band, victor wooten is easily a top 3 bass player ever.

A band that opened for Rage Against the Machine in 96 called Stanford Prison Experiment. I've seen my share of bad opening acts, but these guys were absolutely awful. It was a recipe for disaster as well as they played for an audience in the middle of July in Atlanta. The crowd booed so much that Rage didn't come out on stage until almost an hour after they were supposed to, played 35 minutes, then left.

i wasn't a big fan of the pretenders opening for the who. they spent most of the time preaching peta's doctrine, rather than playing music. the music itself wasn't that good either.

also: danko jones opening for gnr and the used opening for blink-182.

I saw a Mr. David Cross open with a comedy act before PJ in Portland (i think 2005 or 06). I'm a fan of Cross but it was an ugly show. At one point I was actually waiting for some rotten veggies to start flying at him. He started ripping on The Who . . . I was waiting for Ed to cut his mic off!

But really, the worst opening act I've ever seen was some Japanese group that opened for Tool a few years back. It was just ear-splitting noise.

I think The Honeydogs opened for Soul Asylum sometime in the mid-90s. The refrain for one of their songs was something along the lines of "It don't take a genius, just a human with a penis". Awesome stuff right there!

    Best post of the thread.
On a related note, I saw Tap live at Wembley Arena on their "One Night Only World Tour" last year. The Folksmen opened for them and did a bluegrass 'Start Me Up'. Pure genius.

Worse support act I think I ever saw was some Aussie band supporting Morbid Angel in Adelaide in 1992. Why I was at a Morbid Angel gig in the first place is beyond me...
