Israeli tank fire kills three in Gaza
12 September 2010
At least three Palestinians have been killed by tank fire near the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, reports say.
Medical staff and witnesses said Israel fired shots across the border near the town of Beit Hanoun in Gaza.
One report said the two of those killed were a 91-year-old man and his 33-year-old grandson.
Militants in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip earlier fired a rocket into Israel but no casualties or damage were reported.
Adham Abu Salima, a spokesman for medical services in Gaza, told AFP news agency that the 91-year-old victim had been a caretaker at a farm.
His grandson died shortly afterwards from his wounds, he said.
The identity of the third victim was not yet clear.
Israeli army radio described the people killed as "terrorists" and said that at least one of them was armed.
The BBC's Jon Donnison in Ramallah says there has been an increase in rocket fire from Gaza in the past week, although it is nearly always ineffectual.
One Thai farm worker in Israel has been killed by rocket fire from Gaza in the past 18 months while scores of Palestinians in Gaza have been killed over the same period.
The increase in rocket fire comes as the US is trying to relaunch peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians.
Hamas is rejecting those talks.0 -

Teargas canister shot kills Palestinian demonstrator
Activists say Bassem Abu Rahmeh is 18th person to die since 2004 during demonstrations against West Bank barrier
A Palestinian demonstrator was killed today when he was hit by a teargas canister fired by Israeli forces during a weekly demonstration against the West Bank barrier.
Bassem Abu Rahmeh, 29, was hit in the chest by a high-velocity gas canister during the protest in Bil’in. For the past four years Bil’in has been the scene of a weekly demonstration against the barrier, which cuts the village off from a large slice of its farmland.
Abu Rahmeh was taken to hospital in Ramallah but died of his injuries. The Israeli military said it was looking into the incident.
Activists opposed to the barrier said he was the 18th person to die since 2004 during demonstrations near or against the barrier or attempts to cut through the fence. An American protester, Tristan Anderson, was severely injured in the nearby village of Nilin last month when he was hit by a similar teargas canister fired by Israeli forces.

Israeli Army Kills 16 Year Old Demonstrator Near Nablus
March 20, 2010
Mohammed Ibrahim Qaddous, 16, was shot dead with live ammunition when a Border Police force raided his village of Iraq Burin near Nablus to quash a demonstration this afternoon. Another 16 year old was shot in the head and critically injured.
Qaddous was shot at 3pm this afternoon in the aftermath of a demonstration in the village of Iraq Burin protesting restrictions on access to their lands beneath the Jewish-only settlement of Har Brakha. He was shot in the back, indicating he could not have been posing any threat to the soldiers who shot him. At the same time, Ussayed Jamal Abd elNasser, 16, was shot in the head with live ammunition and critically injured. They were both evacuated to a hospital in Nablus where Ussayed is currently being operated on.0 -

for me it comes down to on side policing the other far to harshly. Many times the IDF has all out attacked a community based on an attack from a few within the community. This is far to harsh, and all it does is push more bystanders to take sides , furthering the bloodshed.
Those who attack isreal should be punished, not whole communities. What if the palestinian police were allowed to arrest those who put their whole communities at risk. instead of the status we have now where the first place to be attacked is generally the police station.

And more often than not the IDF has attacked a community without having any excuse to do so.
Besides, this isn't about the sporadic attacks. It comes down to the occupation. The occupation isn't something that occurs sporadically every few months, or years. The occupation occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It represents a constant state of violence and oppression.
And any attacks by the Palestinians against the Israeli's are not a cause of the occupation. They are a symptom of the occupation, and they can not be used as a justification for it.0 -

Dimitri, you don't have to post about something to have feelings about it. I was born and raised in NYC, and was there on that day. Some people take comfort in sharing their feelings with others. I, for one, prefer to deal with my feelings and memories on my own.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane0

Dimi - my thoughts on the 9/11 thread...
This happened many years ago and, whilst it was a tragedy, it is past. The 'ins and outs' of it has been debated to death many moons ago and the result of 9/11 for the world to see now is the debacle in Afghanistan/Iraq. That's the current issue.
So again, a major tragedy with many lives lost but the 'aftermath' of this goes on now. Like the Israel/Palestinian issue - it's now. That's what is being debated.
One can remember the victims but, for me, there is no more to add to 9/11 itself (ie the act, the destruction of the buildings and the lives lost). A cousin of mine died there but two made it out alive and one was one of the firefighters but I really don't have anything to add to the threads 'remembering'.
No disrespect, no 'can't care less' - just nothing to debate. There are far more pressing issues in the world than lighting a candle and listening to the names of the victims. They are not forgotten, people care Dimi - life just goes on.....
If you wish to debate this, maybe we can go on the 9/11 thread so this one is not derailed any further?0 -

Maybe it's because the Israel=Palestine conflict has claimed far more lives and is far more important than 9/11.
And as for 9/11 being the no.1 terrorist attack in history I think there are many people outside of America who would disagree. I.e, Panamanians would no doubt argue that America's terrorist attack on their country in 1989 which resulted in 5000 deaths was more important.0 -
Rita i guess you cover me with your opinion..but as i said that was huge..will never forget it!!we saw live in tv..and was not some of propaganda alot of times both parts in middle east put out,not always but they use some facts(attacks-murders) for propaganda.they use their network to give the news and stuff..i was surprise noone mention a word from people always here post in political and islam-jew threads, human rights and stuff..sorry but that day on WTC is the worst thing i ever see in my life...."...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

im not post here to talk who is the bad ,or who kill more,or who are the terrorist..
i was surprised ,especially from the usa members of the forum that if a bullet sound in middle east they comment always and in 9/11 thread noone post anything..was my thought ,i post it,and i dont see any wrong on that..maybe its me,and i made the mistake to think that our friends here that try to be always fair and put out the middle east problem, want peace etc will probably post to the 9/11 thread.i still find it strange.

i purposely took a few days off of the board because i did not want to argue politics on the anniversary weekend of when i lost 1 dear friend and 2 aquaintances because to me it somehow minimizes their lives into that one event, and i will have no part of that. and personally, i have had enough of 9/11 discussion on this forum. it happened. it is over. rehashing it is painful and toxic. the fact that a majority of americans think that we were attacked becuase "they hate us for our freedom" and that iraq was involved with the attacks makes me unwilling to try talk about it. it seems that most off the people in the world that have never gotten over it did not know anyone involved. i will continue to talk about the israel/palestinian affair, and the wars, and human rights abuses because they are ongoing and new people are being affected by it every day. i will post what i want where i want...."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
