But while he is facing a 4.26 per cent swing in his favour, Mr Roy will not claim victory in the outer northern Brisbane seat until much later in the evening.
"We still do have a long night ahead of us," Mr Roy told the Nine Network.
"There's still a lot of votes to be counted."
Former Liberal treasurer Peter Costello said on the Nine Network Mr Roy is on track to be leader of the party by 2035.
"I'll have a chat to Peter about that later," Mr Roy joked.
He will become the nation's youngest ever federal Member of Parliament.
It is the first time Mr Roy has even voted in a federal election.
"Naturally, anybody who goes through a campaign understands that it's both gruelling and it's personally demanding, and I look forward to it being over," he told AAP while casting his vote at a Caboolture polling booth today.
Despite the question mark that lingered over Mr Roy's age, he ran a clinical grass roots campaign and used the media attention to his advantage by highlighting local issues every chance he got.
He will take the seat from Labor's Jon Sullivan, who had to apologise over a gaffe at a public forum recently: he accused a father of not taking sufficient action, after being told the family had waited two years for specialist medical help.

ive been thinking of wyatt roy and longman electorate. probbaly moreso than i would normally cause this is where 4/6th of my family live.
i have to wonder what kind of informed person votes for a 20 year old. it makes me think that this is a prime example of how people vote blindly for a party regardless of who the candidate is. i find it incredibly diffcult to believe that this young man for whom this was his first election as a voter, let alone a candidate... who its quite possible isnt even old enough to have finished an undergrad degree. and who i seriously hope does not still live with his parents. what were the people of longman thinking?? what could this young man possibly know of life? what life experience could he bring to his electorate? i have a 20 year old niece and i cant begin to imagine her representing her electorate with any gravitas, let alone respect from the community.

that's almost like saying that young people shouldn't be allowed to vote and possibly influence the outcome of the election because they have no experience in life.
word on the street is that this young man ran an excellent campaign and campaigned tirelessly in his electorate and gained much support from people of all ages.
if the votes of young Australians are counted as equal to anyone elses (which they are), then if nothing else, he brings the voice of the thousands of young people with him and i don't think that's a bad thing.
age should not be a barrier. he won't have the experience that some of the crusty old politicans have, but i'm sure he'll learn quickly enough.
queenwood a tony private girls school on the leafy north shore here in sydney has just posted a surplus of $4.7m. it recieved $3.2m funding from the government. in 2008 the school collected $2.4m from student fees. in 2006 their surplus was $3.4m, half a million up from 2005, where their total revenue was $15.65m which included $2.7m in govt grants.

he reckons its a con by Mark Latham and the Labor party to get your vote.
I have also heard this - not the conspiracy Mark Latham part, but that a donkey vote goes to whoever is in government. My boss swears it. Someone else told me it goes to the coalition.

Does it really matter who is declared PM? For arguements sake if Tony Abbott got the numbers and was declared PM but all the independents preferred Labor's broadband plan. Can't Labor put their plan forward and get the independents/Green to vote it through the lower house and Labor and the Greens vote it through the senate. Do you have to be the governing Party to propose policy and have it voted on?

i hereby declare my intention to vote informally in the next NSW election!

and now the biggest tenant in the area is pulling up stumps because of it.

Yep I do
I catch the train every day out of town. there is nobody on the trains going into town .
meanwhile we have every train and bus that runs in newcastle running up and down what we call our city centre.
nobody goes in there. its dying a slow death. meanwhile other area get infrequent bus's or none and most get no rail service. The whole thing needs to be addressed.
we have a lovely foreshore harbour but its a very narrow strip. openening up the end area to the harbour, remove at least 1 or 2 stationss. the train still goes into town , just not right to thebeach

it would seem public transport is the major issue in nsw. and personally i dont see the problem. you put it where its needed to benefit the people. clearly im too much of a dreamer to be a politician.
i always liked newcastle. and i did like that the train was right there, you know. but i also know the city is dying and its a shame. if the heavy rail is ripped up and terminated at civic would that open up the foreshore enough for redevelopment?? but then again i wouldnt want any redevelopment to be so large that itd separate the city from the foreshore as the heavy rail is doing.

I wouldnt want any development, and actually the town planning states that land will be used on the foreshore up till Dyke point ( other side of harbour), this is where the ships berth and Wheat silos etc are . so in affect only blocking view of industry.
from Dyke piont up only the Queenswharf building and the old ferrywharf now a resteraunt is on the water. my idea would be to end the rail a bit further than civic, where the mall bus stops are and bring the parkland all the way across to hunter street.
Im a dreamer I know

proposals for new legislation or amendments to existing legislation can come from members of the opposition.

i heard queensland is particularly furious and acted accordingly. but it wasnt that rudd was usurped, it was the way in which it was done.

i hereby declare my intention to vote informally in the next NSW election!
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
not a fan of the keneally govt eh?
nsw is a state in meltdown. the labor govt is incompetent and there needs to be a change. we need more trains, less new roads, a more green plan of attack... and we need someone with the balls to actually do something instead of endlessly talking about doing something. i hope ofarrell wins the next election.

FARKEN angry with em more like it
Yesterday Newcastle lost a 600 million dollar project in our CBD because our ex news reader now state member and the labor government have sat on their hands and done nothing about changing the CBDs transport options.
about 5 bloody reports / studies . public opinion fully in favour of the development and we lose it.
and now the biggest tenant in the area is pulling up stumps because of it.
yet thge stupid idiots in this town I BET still will not swing aaginst labor.
BRAIN DEAD MORONS
sounds about right.
i live in a very safe labor seat as well and we get nothing here. NOTHING! if the thought of being a politician wasnt anathema to me id consider throwing my hat in the ring.

i cannot see the libs doing too much of a better job, basically, they are all fucked!!
i did not vote in the last state election as i was overseas, and i got fined, then they accepted my reasons, so i got off that fine. Maybe i just don't vote period, and then get the fine, and send them back the excuse "they are all fucked! why bother!"
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
i agree that all private members bills should all be voted on.

Yep I do
I catch the train every day out of town. there is nobody on the trains going into town .
meanwhile we have every train and bus that runs in newcastle running up and down what we call our city centre.
nobody goes in there. its dying a slow death. meanwhile other area get infrequent bus's or none and most get no rail service.

Im a dreamer too.
