As the active ingredient in marijuana does have measurable negative physical effects, I say, from that point of view, living without weed is better.

Also, smoking weed does affect perception, thought process and coordination. Whilst I have no issues with people smoking, I believe that if you are in a position where you have responsibilities (for example at home with young kids or driving), you need to keep you wits about you and shouldn't be 'indulging'. Same with alcohol.

If you have a joint or two, fine. If you NEED a joint or two to relax, etc., you have an issue. Again, same thing goes for alcohol.

People can do what they want. I smoked (and others!), I drank, etc. I was never behind the wheel whilst 'under the influence' and have never been high or drunk whilst having a child under my responsibility. Just common sense.

for me it's just not worth it. i had been getting high every day and not really getting things done after work, and there are a few things i really want to get on top of (like applying to grad school). i decided i would quit smoking weed for a month or so to get my shit in order. well 2 months later, and i've done nothing at all that i wanted to accomplish. all i've done is be bored and anxious and wishing i were high. the upside is i've saved money by not buying it, but not really enough to make a difference in any way. i end up blowing it on other things like movies or alcohol. i don't know. i would rather be high and happy when i get off work than bored and tense. it really does just help me relax and puts me in a better mood.

Instead of being bored, you could have put your shit in order and accomplished what you set yourself to accomplish. Maybe you are without direction and don't know where to start, I don't know, but it seems you have procrastinated. Looks like this procrastination is about important things in life too! Find something else to relieve 'tension'... besides being high, you must have other interests? If you did sort things out and 'got out and done things', you wouldn't be thinking about wishing to be high all the time.

I smoked between the ages of 14 and 27 .. the first few years socially the last 7 years numerous times a day ... I became ill and had to give up ... it was hellish but 13 years on the best thing I did ... I still know people in their 50's and 60's who are total dope heads they seem to think it makes them windswept and interesting but I just feel for them as they live such sad lives living for the next joint

my other interests go along so well with weed though... reading, watching movies, listening to music.. haha. no, you're right, i have a procrastination issue. i'm just trying to emphasize that i have this issue whether or not i'm smoking weed. it really has no detrimental effect on what i'm trying to do. it's not that it's consuming my every thought, which you seem to have inferred from what i typed earlier.

I did for the first few years after I completely stopped. But I had to stick with it ... I really didn't want to become some washed out old stoner like so many people I know ... When I see people I know still spending their days stoned in their middle age and beyond I think they just don't want to cope with growing up and need that sense of suspended reality that being high gives ... Don't get me wrong ... I had some great times when high especially with mushrooms and acid but I also wanted to grow up,take responsibility for my life and move on ... it had nothing to do with feeling I was better than the friends who chose to continue to spend their days high I just got to the point that I couldn't do it any more and didn't want to.

Smoked it pretty regulary for about 17 years until about 3 years ago. It ain't so bad. I had my fun. Would still partake in a bit if I was offered some but I don't go buying it anymore. Just try not to have it everyday. Thats when it was the worst for me. I'd get up in the morning and down half a dozen cones and head to work, come home and smoke all night and then start all over again the next day.

BIlly Connelly once said something about his drinking thats kind of applies to me and smoking weed "I drank all my share at once! I have to wait for everyone else to catch up. I should be able to have another drink when I'm a hundred and fifty six!!!!"
I can't go the library anymore, everyone STINKS!!

It Suck's Moose C***, i've been without for 5 months because my job started testing, i lived stoned for 10 years before that, it was wonderful, if i wasn't at work i was stoned. I miss it SO much. If i ever get laid off the first thing i'm doing is buy like 3 ounces and sit home get hi and watch scifi movies and t.v. shows, i almost wana get laid off. If i could chose i would give up drinking and go back to getting hi any day of the week. I once took a week off work, played Grand Theft Auto 3 and watched all 7 seasons of Star Trek DS9, while smoking like 14 joint's a day, one an hour while being awake. It was the Greatists week EVER!!!

First 12 months is hard, but after that way easier. I don't miss it anymore, haven't had any for 6 years now!! Much clearer head and far more able to process and cope with what life has to throw at me.

:D , That is a good one, personally I think weed becomes a way of life , I have been on my once a week program for some time now. Saturdays afternoons if I am able to I will get a few beers in, roll a couple of joints and have a jamming session on the guitar, it does not happen every week only when life allows it to.

I still get a good laugh when I see my friends who are in their late 40"s early 50's, who still "Have to get high" every single day of their life. 99% of these people have one thing in common. Their lives are a complete fucking joke, at least in my eyes. They are in their 40's-50's, and STILL cant hold down a job, they have no such thing as a savings account, they live from paycheck to paycheck. I think the thing that sickens me the most with these knuckleheads, is now some of them have children tn their early 20's. And they see nothing wrong with getting high with their children.

I realize their are plenty of people who smoke dope every day, and function like normal rational human beings...I get that...

But as far as MY FRIENDS are concerned?? The one's who have been smoking dope every day since highschool??? Their lives are a complete fucking mess...At least in my eyes they are.....They still look at life through the eyes of an 18 year old. Pathetic is the word that comes to mind, when I look at their lives and what they have accomplished.

totally agree... and yes, there are successful and normally (as far as society goes) functioning people out there who smoke weed. But I think that we are talking occasional, weekend-type smokers... In my life, I've never met anyone who smoked everyday, where it wasn't so obvious to everyone else, and who's life wasn't a mess.

There maybe people older than college-aged who can pull it off, but I haven't met any yet.

I am at the point in my life where I can barely stand to talk to these friends of mine. Every couple months I will get a phone call from them, and it turns in to the same silly bullshit conversation that we have had for 20 years. They are having problems with work. Their children are out of control. They are broke. They are always bitching about something. For 20 years, hell, 30 years, their lives have been at a complete standstill. They haven't moved forward in any way. At least not in my eyes. They are no different then when they were 18 years old.
