Note about Welker and his knee in Peter King's weekly column, looking good ... probably shouldn't expect any less from this guy.

I think there's little doubt Wes Welker is ahead of where anyone thought he'd be right now, after February surgery on his knee and shoulder. Three months post-surgery, he was dancing to "You Should Be Dancing'' by the Bee Gees Saturday night at the Magic-Celtics game in Boston, and earlier in the day, multiple reports had Welker moving well and jogging through routes at his football camp in a Boston suburb. He's not playing opening day -- that would be way too quick a recovery -- but it looks like Welker could be back earlier in the season than any of us thought.

Don't wanna jinx it, but we're taking home the Lombardi trophy this year. The magic is coming back to Foxboro one last time...

If it weren't for Sanchez, the Pats wouldn't even be the favorite in the AFC east.

Still not even sure they are.

Are you for real, is that her for real? :D Have been thinking of the Patriots waiting till the Celtics are finished with their run to the championship. I need more time to figure out where they'll end up in the division this year.

Got tix to 3 Pats games this year. Going to the Saints pre season, Colts on 11/21, and Dolphins on 1/2. Hoping that by the Dolphins game they are looking at a first round bye. But a guaranteed wild card would be all right too. I think the Jets are going to be average this year. 10-6 would be my guess for them this year. Looking at the Vikings to be the fave in the NFC.

Since I just found out that I tore my ACL a few weeks ago I've learned as much about the recovery as possible. My PT explained to me that right after surgery your knee is as strong as ever, but constantly weakens while you relearn how to walk because your quad atrophies. At a certain point generally 2-3 months following surgery you will be able to move as well as before (the downswing of your ACL strength and the rise of your quad strength meet in the middle), however your ACL will continue to weaken for another month-ish after that while the quad gets back to full form. I presume this is where Welker is right now, which is about the halfway point of recovery. To be at full strength you gotta spend another 2-3 months rehabbing the knee. Even a speedy recovery puts him at being back in early September, and that's not even getting back at game strength. Now his occupation probably gives him the opportunity to rehab more than the average human, but I'd guess Week 4 at best, and not even good Welker until late in the year...if at all.

I'm thinking the Pats get him back by about week 8.

Hopefully Edelman and the two new TEs they drafted (who, by all accounts, are very good pickups) can hold the fort.

Oh, and they got Torry Holt who can't be any worse than Joey Galloways was .... right? right???

Anyway, it's still the defense that remains the big question mark. The Ravens made that point loud and clear.

    Holy crap!

Did anyone see the video of Wes Welker today?

Cone drills? Running routes? Making cuts?!?

The guy is a beast ... 4 months out of ACL surgery.

Could he actually make it back for the opener?

Just a reminder Welker tore his ACL AND MCL...if he's back fully after that in 4 months he's on some sweet ass drugs - there's no other way. That's the same injury Carson Palmer had, and, in football, most doctors say that quarterbacks can come back first...Willis McGahee had the old "triad" and missed a whole season afterward. I can't believe that he'd be back full on by Week 1...of course this is the NFL and "magical" body recoveries do happen. Regardless he's crazy that he's doing cone drills for sure.

We all knew Welker was superhuman before the injury and his recovery proves that point further. I bet he catches several big TDs this year.

Since you have experience in these injuries, you tell me ... note, it was a few days ago I was saying week 8 ... so, I'm equally as stunned.

Here's the video ... it's about the 1 minute mark where my jaw dropped.

i guess Yovani Gallardo came back to pitch game 1 of the NLDS against the Phils after tearing just his ACL in late-April 2008...so it's possible, but he didn't have anyone trying to tackle him. Welker's surgery was in early-Feb, so September puts him at 7 months post surgery. I'm not a big Welker fan, but that's pretty impressive if he's doing it drug-free. In fact, it's impressive that he's doing that even if he is using drugs.

However, I find it curious that its only his ACL that's being talked about, he did 2 of the 3 which, obviously, is worse. Either way, I am going to do mine "performance enhancing" free, and will do 2 hours per day of rehab, 5 days a week. Surgery is on July 14th, so that would mean that at my age and fitness (I'm not Wes Welker but mine is only ACL vs. ACL/MCL and I was running/biking 25-35 miles per week pre-tear) I should be pretty close to being able to do what he did in that tape in November. Methinks something is not right about this. However, it could just be that he is strengthening his quad, and just getting into shape. If he plays week 1 I'll be incredulous...if he plays well I will give back a liter of my Wild Turkey.

Well, training camp is in full swing. Really optimistic about their chances this season. I still think they need to jump the giant hurdle in the AFC East that is the NY Jets, but as long as they win one of the 2 games against them, I think they have great chances. Hopefully we will see Welker before the BYE in October but it is all up to the trainers and him if he's back to 100% by then. Going to the Saints pre-season game on the 12th to open the preseason. Can't wait for September.

Welker on practice field...amazing! My brother-in-law is waiting in fear for the reinjury, I hope he doesn't even though I don't like him.
  • If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes...Wes Welker in live game action tonight in Atlanta. Simply unreal how he's back already. Remember how people thought he'd be done for the entirety of this season. Turns out he'll probably only miss one game. And if I remember correctly, I think all of the Patriots roster missed that game....

Gotta stop living in the past though. If I can't rip on you for the utter choke job the Yankees pulled in 04 against the Sox without being told that it's old news or I'm living in the past, then you can't rip on the Pats utter choke job in the SuperBowl against the Giants.

    Deal?

Nice win today for the Pats. Welker and Brady both had great games. The tight end duo of Hernandez and Gronkowski is going to be a huge threat to defenses this year. Looking forward to the Jets next week.
