We are heading out tomorrow first thing. Straight to #7 to wait for the groups to come around....

    7 looks awesome.
Hazeltine's signature hole. Some great putts and bad drives but from the tee box, its all water to the eye. Really tough hole.

We watched all the groups come through, then went over to 17 to watch Reed and Mcilroy from across the water. Great day.

    Whistling Straits 2020....
That's awesome. Looked like a great time. The Rory/Reed match has some fun on 7 too.

Would have loved to hear that roar on 8.

What were the crowds like? As bad as they came across on TV?
Crowds were crowds. I wouldn't say they were bad or worse than any other Ryder Cup. Because of the format, you've got more players on less holes, which means after they all tee off, the crowds tend to snowball. I expected that going in, so I wasn't put off by it. I would recommend to anyone going in the future to pick a hole ahead of the groups (like we did with #7) and get there at least an hour ahead of tee-times. You WILL sit there for a bit, but the crowds were very friendly, conversation was good, and then once the play starts coming through, you'll have a great seat to see all the players.

With the Ryder Cup, following players/teams really isn't an option, at least not if you want to actually watch play.

I didn't think most of the people were overly out-of-line, at least not compared to other years. And frankly, part of me can imagine pro golf heads rationalizing the rambunctiousness the way Virginia Venit did about Happy Gilmore ("Golf has been waiting for a player like this. A colorful, working class hero." etc). In some regard, they have to encourage the rowdiness, if only because it draws in more fans.

But I too found a lot of the hecklers (1) not very clever, (2) if they were clever, a bit "too far" (e.g. stuff about players' wives etc), and (3) the type of stuff that was too far in any sport. It's fine to be happy and cheer a great shot, but the cheering of bad shots is sort of counterintuitive to the idea of a golf competition.

Anyway, the Ryder Cup was cool, and I'll probably try for Whistling Straits, because my in-laws live an hour away. But I would agree that the heckling did take something away from it.

Good stuff. Looked like an awesome time. Ha, yeah, my wife said she felt like she was watching Happy Gilmore during the Reed/Rory stretch on 6-8.

99% of those hecklers are not in the least bit funny. I mean, come up with something besides baba booey or mashed potatoes. I did find the Sweet Caroline signing to Rory kind of amusing though it is kind of pointless since he is the one that broke up with her. I read there were some pretty terrible things said. The one time Rory flipped out is because someone told him to suck a dick. I don't mind the cheering bad shots in this tournament.

Nice. I plan to do Bethpage when it is here in a while. Also debating between the Presidents Cup and PGA in Charlotte next year.

Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of all time. Hard to argue not top 3. Go ahead and make fun of him like it makes your life any better.

Looks like a nice swing and the shorter back swing should definitely help his back, but that is a very very slow swing. Granted, I am sure he wasn't going all out, but he's gotta be a whole hell of a lot more powerful than that to compete on tour. Haney in the background in some of the videos. Hasn't really tweeted anything since and just said it is slower than on course speed.

Maybe he's accepted the fact that he needs to sacrifice distance for accuracy at his age...

Yeah, that's fine if it's possible, but he'd need his putting stroke back big time and tough to see that. I hope so, man. I just want to watch the guy play golf but I am getting less and less hopeful by the day. I just have a hard time seeing him compete against guys like Rory, Day and DJ while sacrificing 50+ yards to them

If anyone can do it, it's the greatest golfer we've ever seen.

As disappointing as it is for him to withdraw this week, I think it's an encouraging sign that he still won't come back until he's 100% ready.

I definitely agree on all of this. He needs some of that swagger back though too.

Should be dialed in to tear up the Champions Tour. I'd love to see him get that 17th major, but I don't think we'll see him win again, Hes a head case.
