I love this band. This was my 14th show. There is always a tendency to overvalue what is most recent, but this was probably in my top five. Seats were row Q on Mike's side - similar to previous years in DC with my 172xxx # (thanks 10C) - and the crowd around me was great, although there were definitely some empty seats. One of the many reason why the band's shows are wonderful are the people you meet, which for tonight was a group from NY and a big guy wearing a Troegs shirt who was holding up an orange "Mike is God" shirt and claimed to have gotten on the stage for one of last year's Philly shows.
Best moment of the night for me was All Those Yesterdays. On the drive to the terrible venue, my friend and I were talking about what we most wanted to see. It was #1 on my list, so I was on cloud nine when they went into it. Also really liked Down, which was another first for me, and Brain of J, Faithful, Garden, Present Tense, and Blood. Anyone who says it was just a greatest hits show isn't bothering to read the setlist. I thought the opener - Small Town - was an interesting/odd choice, but it seemed to get the crowd (at least around me) into it from the get go. I normally am not the president of Better Man's fan club, but tonight's version was good. Ed's banter was nice, particularly about lobbyists (I work on the hill and really appreciated it) and Haiti. Another highlight was that it wasn't overly heavy on Backspacer, but included pretty much everything I really like off of it other than Force of Nature - Unthought Known, The End, and the other three they seem to play every night.
Out of all the DC shows I have been to: 03, 04, 06, and 08, I think this may have been my favorite. Also, Band of Horses was fan-freaking-tastic. Funeral is one of the best songs of the last decade. And props to the guy in the "SCOTCHNSODA" jersey and the guy in the VFC Patriot shirt who were a few rows ahead of me - you rocked out the whole night.
I was right behind you guys... the guy with the orange shirt was to our right for a good chunk of the show.. unfortunately he kept borderline groping my friend and left his piss with us when he left claiming that he was going to get on stage again. Other than that, crowd was good, very pumped and into the songs. We did notice a lot of NY'ers there... lots of Mets hats in that crowd.
I think we sat right in front of you. I was the dancer, sorry just can not help myself at a Pearl Jam show!
And thanks for picking up my bag!
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!
I guess it gets to the point where you really want to see songs youve never seen before, which is 100% subjective I understand, but it doesnt change the hope that the every next-song will be a new one for you. The only new song I got was got some, still missing GSMF, Force of Nature and Amongst the Waves from Backspacer, luclkily im going to both MSG shows

Surprised there isn't more love for Sonic Reducer! I saw them play it live in Minneapolis 98 and it blew my friggin mind and have been wishing to see it ever since. Ten shows in that's the only time I've seen it sadly :(
Adolescence in essence is all about trust.
Leaving is for the answering machine.
What is that one that got crossed off? I can't figure it out, looks like it ends in two F's.

Indifference..

Think the curfew is why the band scratched Indifference. Check out the setlist snagged from the stage. It was scratched off.
Still an amazing show! http://www.facebook.com/?sk=ff#!/photo. ... 1261166832

The lot was pie. Got there at 3:45 only to be told to come back in 10 minutes.
Stayed a few minutes after the show and was out on 66 in a flash. No trouble at all.
Another 172xxx row Q mikes side.
A Thanks to the two girls who picked up my bag when it slid off my seat.
I liked it, Down and Present Tense!
Crowd was ok. I'm a rocker at PJ shows, I just can't help it.
Also introduced myself to the Hoff...haha, he's just great.
The poster is super sweet. Love it.
Also thanks to the two guys in front of me with their cameras out the whole show. I mean I can see a few pictures and a quick vid, but the whole show? Enjoy your videos ass*oles.
That was us with the purse... you're welcome... great meeting you!
(And yeah, the two guys with the cameras were SUPER annoying... they were blocking my view as well but I felt terrible for you!!!)
I left D.C. at 3:30, was in Bristow at 4:45, had time for quick dinner and got a great parking spot (general, not VIP) around 5:45. Stayed in our seats until the band left the stage, hit the bathroom, went to car and was out of the lot in less than a minute and on 66 in less than 5. I had been expecting much worse.
Personally I prefer Bristow to Verizon Center for the actual concert experience (I like outdoors better).
I thought the setlist was very good, even though it was heavier on the punkier tunes than I personally prefer. Hearing Faithfull made my night, and following up with All Those Yesterdays made it more awesome. I wish I didn't see that Indifference had been on the setlist!! (I've seen it multiple times, but still a favorite.)
The biggest downer of the night was all the people smoking around us. Can people really not go 2 hours without a cigarette?
where's that smiley icon where it wears shades and has a cigarette hanging out of its mouth?
that's how I feel today after seeing them last night. I'm singing this one line from bush, "I don't want to come back down from this cloud."
9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more
8/08 - Ed solo in DC, 6/09 Ed in B'more,
10/10 - Brad in B'more

i went to wishlist party great time, got into the show with no problem at all, people over exxagerated the traffic . i was on line 530 got in 540, drank & tailgated for 2 hours.
show # 27 , fun, little show, opening w elderly was different, 1st sime i seen em do that, faithul, yesterdays, down, Brain of J all awesome semi rare songs, anytime ya get a present tense its amazing !!!!!1 encore was hit driven, but i was ok with it, i had a ton of fun, now off to the garden
7th show and worst for me so far. Setlist was a greatest hits parade, and the sound was a disaster, especially for the first 5 or 6 songs. I didn't think the crowd was that bad, but Eddie seemed miffed by the lack of participation. The band was sloppy. They were in a good mood, but not really up for the challenge tonight. Ed said he was gonna bring out the fucked up songs, then broke out rarities like Why Go and Black. Garden, Blood and All Those Yesterdays were treats, but I have to say I was expecting more after the great setlists of this tour. That being said, it was still a pj concert and I had a blast. Things can only get better from here as I head to Hartford, Boston and Newark

A singles show? You're insane - that was probably one of the top 5 shows I've seen easily and I've seen a lot of shows!
Brain Of J
Present Tense
Down
Faithfull
All Those Yesterday
Spin The Black Circle
Sonic Reducer
Yeah
I wasn't at this show, but on paper it looks amazing! I agree, this is no greatest hits package. Brain of J! C'mon! Even 'Save You' has been rare on this tour. Plus they opened with Elderly Women! You guys were treated to a cool set.
Was a solid show, but during Mike's solo on EF, Ed walked over to the crowd in the right of the pit, and opened his hands as if holding an invisible grapefruit and shook them, with a "come on, get more INTO this song" look on his face. I think he also said something like "can you hear us" or something, as if that might explain what they perceived as a quiet crowd. Ed did also make mention that it's a large venue, so it's hard to hear the crowd... so I don't know what they thought of the crowd, but I don't think they were getting "the vibe" from us. I was jumping up and down the majority of the night, but who knows what they see from their angle. After they came on with The End, Just Breathe and Garden, the crowd seemed to get louder and louder into Why Go, so it was a good choice of songs to pick up things.
Saw/met a bunch of people from the board. Travelar met me there with my spare. The dude from Boston who left Boston at 3am to make the show. Frank_Bauer was there from FL. Met iluvcats and a few others I forgot the username of too.
Got to the venue at about 4:30 taking backroads just to make sure no highway problems. Getting out of the parking lot was tough. I was parked pretty deep in the lot, and the cars drive down the "aisles" but then after 10 minutes of being idle, the cars all turn off their engines and lights, so then it's a disorganized lot... luckily after only 30 minutes, they opened up a line starting from the back of the lot, and somehow that made for an exit 90 seconds later. They could really just add a few egress spots in the fence and avoid a lot of this congestion.
Anyway - a good show. House looked packed even though there were tickets still available. Looking forward to the big city soon.
See you all there?
Songs of particular enjoyment this evening:

Band of Horses sounded like some EMO music. Not really into them.
PJ was ok. Not the best show I've seen. Didn't really sound to good and the crowd wasn't as good as I've seen before. That's one of the bad things about the DC area. You get so many people from all over the U.S. here just for a job and they want to see PJ just to say they saw them and not really caring too much.

The crowd participation issue was really two fold. First, you can't really have participation in an outdoor lawn because you can't see or hear everyone like you can in an arena. Second, they didn't engage the crowd enough. You'v gotta recognize the venue you're in and the crowd you have. Maybe 2000 knew Insignificance. That was a bad call. That song sent people to the pissers, and deflated any energy.
I know they were running on a tight clock, that was evident from the early start and little chatter inbetween. But that could've been handled better by starting the show at 7:00. How hard is it to start the shows at 7 that have a curfew around 11, let a lone a really hard curfew like many amphitheaters do.
This was not a bad show. It was not a great show, and it couldn't have been because of the size and scope of Nissan Pavillion Lube Live. It's not an arena. But the band might have done a bit more to engage and keep the crowd engaged in such a setting. Play a few more off Backspacer. Give us Leash instead of Reducer. Etc.
You know you've got a great band when you can nit pick like this. But it's their fault, my last two shows were 10/31/09 and Columbia '08
A dump truck could dump a load of wet mushy cow shit on you before a pearl jam show and they could play an entire set of evenflow over and over and over..... and you'd still be witnessing the fucking greatest band on the planet.... and it will still be the best show you will see all year... period.

The first 8 songs they came out hard, they had so much energy and they were very tight musically (except save you).
6 songs that made the show:
Brain of J
All Those Yesterdays
Black
Blood
STBC
Sonic Reducer
After all those yesterdays Ed says "oh, you guys like the weird ones eh?"
That might have been the best Sonic Reducer I've seen, it was kick ass.
As for the crowd, yeah the singing along was pretty weak but all the 10c sections were rocking out and my friends out on the lawn said they loved it.
