Welcome to the big leagues, Yu. Not the start he was hoping for, I'm sure.

I have the Yanks on obviously but am flicking back and forth as much as possible. Hoping for a Jays win there, would be sweet.

5 years, $75 million ($70 million with a $5 million buyout of a 6th year option) for Ian Kinsler. I'm guessing the Reds' front office isn't too happy with that news. Brandon Phillips is probably going to get a similar deal and I'm not so sure the Reds want to pay that much for him--although it does give them a little leverage in not giving him a guaranteed 6th year that he reportedly asked for.

Yeah, Reds can't like it, especially since it sounded like they were close but the Yankees sure have to like it.

Ozzie suspended 5 games for his comments on Fidel Castro. He really put his foot in his mouth this time.

this is so fucking stupid..what Fidel has done is horrible, but, seriously it's a drop in the bucket compared to what our country has done the world over. Should we just start suspending managers for saying God Bless 'Mericuh, because we've ruined millions of lives in ours and other countries?

I can understand the Marlins suspending Guillen and respect that it's their right to do so, but I don't agree with it. I know they play in an area where there's a very large Cuban population and it was an incredibly supid and poorly-worded thing to say and the team needs to protect it's financial interests, but anyone who read the quote can figure out what Guillen really meant and anyone who knows anything about Guillen knows he's not the brightest manager in the game.

The dumbest thing I've heard about the situation so far is that MLB is supposedly "Looking into the Guillen situation," according to Buster Olney. What the hell are they looking into? Everyone knows what he said and anyone who cares enough about it should be able to find one of Guillen's apologies. Why would Selig give a crap about Guillen's dumb comments when MLB allowed the Orioles to actually go to Cuba and play the Cuban national team in an exhibition back in 1999 and not punish their owner for saying that he'd never sign a Cuban defector. The trip and Angelos's statement both did more to support Castro than Guillen's comment. MLB also allows the Cuban national team to play in the World Baseball Classic so I really don't see how they have any legitimate reason to look into this--although I admit that you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who would call Selig consistent or say he always has legitimate reasons for his decisions.

what....Monster Rain and I agree on something? This literally just seems like a publicity ploy by MLB to keep the game at the forefront of people's minds.

While I agree that the guillen story is stupid, it pales in comparison to the uproar the saints nonsense has caused. You mean to tell me that defensive players try to hurt offensive players in football?? Get outta here, I never would have guessed that.

    I blame espn for everything

The Reds signed Brandon Phillips for $72.5 million over 6 years. That seems like a long time considering he'll be 37 when the deal ends. I would have guessed that a 6th year would have been an option, especially since Ian Kinsler just signed a 5-year deal with an option for a 6th year and he's a year younger than Phillips. I guess all the "expert" columnists who said the Votto deal meant Phillips was a goner fell pretty silly right now.

I'd like to know how many baseballs he has since he has been doing that for years and catches what seems like every homer that ends up on that hill.

They apparently had stashed away some of the money they received from revenue sharing and used that for Votto. Also, their local TV deal expires in 2016 and they're hoping/expecting to cash in on the trend of other teams getting large TV deals and anticipating that MLB's national media contracts will also increase when they come up for renewal.

I'd like to see the Rangers hire this security guard and stick him out in center the next time the kid makes a move for the ball. :P
