Okay can't stop listening to MMJ, so far now i have Evil urges, Red rocks 2011, and i just downloaded Bonnaroo 2008(which i have yet to listen too).
I've never felt this Exited about a new band since i first heard Ten in 1991.
I just love the sound of this band, and the fact that when i'm listening to them, for some unexplained reason my heart just feels at peace with the world, like i'm on some journey of Inner Peace - is that wierd.
I have 2 bands on my I have to see live before i die list. - L.A Guns, and Drivin n Cryin. well now MMJ has just been added to that list.
I'm reading what your all getting excited about the setlists, well i'm not too familiar with all their songs -- YET.
someone gave me this link for boots. http://thesteamengine.net/home/category ... rentPage=2
Is this a good site, or is there anymore with anymore recent shows, I'd love to download some and delve a little deeper. anyone got any recommendations for any good shows i should look for first.

Simply watch their "Okonokos" DVD and you will be hooked instantly....I think "Z" is perhaps their most popular piece of work, I would start there, and work yourself BACKWARDS until you finish with "TTF".....but to truly capture the true essence of this band, it is a must to see them live! Dare I say, a modern day PJ, not a lot of radio play or media, but damn, its great not following what's "trendy"

Okonokos is what turned me on to them. Speaking of that...I have a minty fresh copy of it on wax only played a few times. Might as well run it through this thread before it heads to Lost Dogs.
I was going to put it up for $100 shipped if in the states. Consider this a pre-sale of sorts for all the fellow MMJ lovers.

18.Isn't It A Pity (George Harrison cover) (w/ Dean Wareham of Luna)
19.Victory Dance
20.Wordless Chorus
21.I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (Prince cover)
22.One Big Holiday
21 song set which lasted for 2 hours 20 minutes (Good Intentions does not count lol)
They played 4 songs from their first album, which was amazing since I had never heard anything off that album before. Those, plus the two covers, plus the FULL version of Run Thru equals 7 new MMJ songs for me tonight- a lot considering this was my 6th time seeing them.
Dondante --> War Begun had an amazing transition and was the highlight of the night for me. Too Bad Touch Me Pt. 1 was taken off the set because I would have loved to hear it again. Overall, a fantastic night. I was nervous the sound would be low in an outdoor NY venue (a la Central Park Summerstage) but it was very loud!

Had a good time at this show last night. Was a lot less crowded than I expected, which was cool (place holds 5,000, but I'd guess it was 2/3 full). Walked in right before they went on and was able to hang just to the side of the stage...was like 20' from the stage.
Weird venue. Cool ferry ride over from manhattan, then kinda felt like a band showed up to a tailgate party once we got in. Band killed it though...they are great
At this point I'd say the Philly show is the best one on this tour, aside from the Red Rox shows.

And Im just going to repeat how awesome of a cover Rock the Casbah is for them. Jim kills the vocals.
@titchinello - i gotta say... im jealous. i remember the feeling of getting into this band... its something else, thats for sure. and WHEN you finally get to see them live... its AMAZING!!! Steamengine is a great site... kinda started off as a MMJ only site, but he's branched out quite a bit over the last few years. You can also find audience recordings on archive.org. They're usually rated so you can get an idea if its worth the download or not... or check the MMJ forums to see what they have to say about them. You've got a good start. But seriously... look around online and in your record stores for the Okonokos DVD. So worth the money. There is also a audio recording too... There are plenty of us here if you are unable to find them
I need an MMJ fix :(

It took me awhile to fully get into them.. I appreciated when I heard it still moves around 2004 but it wasn't until okonokos that I was a full fledged fan.. that is a killer LP. By the time Evil Urges came out they were probably overtaken PJ as my favorite band.

Rock The Casbah at Red Rocks was one of the best concert experiences of my life. The crowd went apeshit, Jim was all over the stage, and the guy was holding the cue cards right in front of where we were dancing so we got the best of it. It seemed like every person was on their feet dancing their asses off. Such a blast!!

Z did it for me. I dont even know why I bought that album to tell you the truth. Never heard a song from them before it came out.
At this point I'd say the Philly show is the best one on this tour, aside from the Red Rox shows.
I was at the philly show and the merriweather show. i can say with the utmost confidence that the merriweather show was on an entirely different level. philly was great. merriweather was one of the best shows I've seen them play. (it was my 23rd).
That said, its still hard for me to not say that forecastle was the best show of the tour. That was probably my second favorite show, just behind roo 08. but merriweather 12 is right up there, possibly beside it. no joke.

fyi- not to be a stickler, but in no way is a merriweather show a dc show. not sure why they advertise it that way. its not really even near dc.
I'll be going tonight been a year since ive seen mmj it will be my 9th show . Bonnaroo 08 is still my favorite show! Soundcheck at 4pm , maybe i'll see some of you there

I was nervous the sound would be low in an outdoor NY venue (a la Central Park Summerstage) but it was very loud!

in the 3 North east shows they played a whole bunch of different songs without many repeats.. a lot of cool cover also.

There are plenty of us here if you are unable to find them
I need an MMJ fix :(
C'MON BOSTON!!!!!!
Or Hartford. I mean, a first time appearance in CT would have to be awesome...right?
It took me awhile to fully get into them.. I appreciated when I heard it still moves around 2004 but it wasn't until okonokos that I was a full fledged fan.. that is a killer LP. By the time Evil Urges came out they were probably overtaken PJ as my favorite band.

Rock The Casbah at Red Rocks was one of the best concert experiences of my life. The crowd went apeshit, Jim was all over the stage, and the guy was holding the cue cards right in front of where we were dancing so we got the best of it. It seemed like every person was on their feet dancing their asses off. Such a blast!!

That said, its still hard for me to not say that forecastle was the best show of the tour. That was probably my second favorite show, just behind roo 08. but merriweather 12 is right up there, possibly beside it. no joke.
that DC show must have been something special because I was speechless after the philly show.. they say it was one of the best MMJ ever.. MMJ have brought it this year and raised the bar even higher.

oh it was. hell>cobra>run thru>cobra changed lives
fyi- not to be a stickler, but in no way is a merriweather show a dc show. not sure why they advertise it that way. its not really even near dc.
I was gonna say the same thing. Columbia is such a weird place for an outdoor venue
