I've heard of this band for years - obviously, but to be honest, never really paid any attention... i heard a song the other day that blew me away-- so i've downloaded a live in red rocks 2011 bootleg, to get a feel for the band.. i love this trippy out sound... i must investigate further...

Curious as to what song you heard the other day that blew you away. Like others said, dive in head first. For the past couple years, they've moved ahead of PJ as my favorite band. Great music, and a tremendous live band.

And like Twisted said.....get Okonokos. You will not be disappointed.

ha ha it was on American dad. and the song - touch me i'm going to scream.
what i've listen too so far on red rocks is amazing, and i've found Okonokos on you tube, i'll watch later.

annoying thing is, they toured hear in uk not that long ago, and i don't think there too popular over here as it was smaller venues --- wish i went now, but i won't be missing them next time.

They're playing somewhat smaller venues here than what a PJ might play, which makes it all the better. Tomorrow's show is at Mann Music Center which is my favorite concert venue. 8-)

  • that american dad episode is hilarious!
If I hadn't been a fan before seeing that, it certainly would have made me check them out too.

    And as for regrets....
well... MMJ opened quite a few PJ shows that I've attended :fp:
But I just wasnt into them then and favored tailgating over the opening band
It just didnt really click for me till Okonokos...

Have fun making up for lost time 8-)

Okay, corn hole added to my list too. Maybe even some indoor dart action.

Wait, this thread is about MMJ..... isnt it?

  • Yeah, they've had no issue selling out red rocks, or even MSG (for NYE shows, at least) but it seems like they prefer the smaller venues (and sometimes don't even sell those out. I heard Columbus only had about 2500 the other night). For some reason, they are just not catching on around here. But, they seem to be happy doing what their doing, so kudos to them for that.

Anyone interested in going to the sound check tomorrow? I have an extra spot open. Starts at 3:15. No video or flash photography. You get a poster after the sound check is over. I paid $80 for two. Willing to sell my extra spot for $20 and maybe a beer during the show. :P Thanks.

Got to admit... Saw MMJ and Band of Horses last night, and didn't care much for MMJ. I thought they were particularly showy, and thought the sound left much to be desired. It almost felt to me like they were all playing riffs from different songs.

That being said, Band of Horses opened, who, once again, were fucking excellent.

Really? I've seen BOH be awesome 4 other times but the 3 times I saw them last week I thought they were just up there goofing around. Ben sorta admitted they were just trying to figure out how to play all the new songs before the album came out.

    strangulation would be awesome too.

really looking forward to tomorrow. wish I would have gotten into this band earlier

I've seen them 11 times with 7 different openers (including One Big Holiday, which was nuts), and I think At Dawn is their Release. It just gets everything started perfectly.

I really hope the play They Ran. Don't care if it's the opener, just want to hear it.

They haven't played it since Red Rox. Maybe they'll get back to it...
