What wars have we fought "to move things forward" and in what terms does "forward" actually refer?

Also, anytime anyone utters the words "if you don't like it leave" when referring to a nation, it's simply dumb on so many levels. I get what you're saying about the race card, but the other part is bs.

this country (our country) is so young about less then 300 years old ? we went to war to gain freedom from the British then we had the civil war that was a first and very important step in doing away slavery then there was WWI and WWII I don't need to go any farther with that stuff,my point with that is I'm tired reading all this bs and crying about how messed up some of the people on this forum are saying our country is and thats why I said "if you don't like it get the fuck out" we don't need to give anybody a free ride, my grandfather and my uncle, my great grandfather all fought in wars to make this a better place to live,my father in-law fought in three wars and was born in the fillipins (spelling check please) but loved this country enough to fight for it and it's freedoms we have today my grandfathers family from Italy came here and fought for America so my message is stand behind your country or leave,if you want to stand behind another country like mexico or any other country move your ass over there and fight for your new country of choice, fighting for any other country from American soil is treason.

Or perhaps over those hundreds of years, the culture, mindset of people, class of people, morality/sense of social justice/humanity and general care has deteriorated so vastly that the nation isn't worth fighting for? To simply equate a person's defense by arms of an idea or nation to it's legitimacy or even qualities (good or bad), is merely silly. Also, simply saying things that are we have overcome or dealt with in the past as some type of justification for things now doesn't amount to anything other than excuses and entitlement. No one deserves or should expect a free ride, so to speak, include the people of our nation and we should always, aim, strive and work towards making things better for everyone, both home and abroad (in our borders, on them or elsewhere). Saying anything otherwise is merely excuses and off-hand ways of placing blame or bias towards others.

So do you think racism still exists at all in this country? Do you believe we still have room to move forward?

Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.

Are you saying everything's been all hunky dory for black people since the Civil War? :? And how exactly did WWI and WWII eliminate racism from this country? :?

Some people stand behind THEIR country by standing up against injustice, by the way. And I'm pretty sure that's one of the ideals upon which OUR country is based.

Thanks! I love it. I read it quoted in an article about why the US has one of the highest rates of unintended pregnancy in the developed world.

What, are you serious. So if I"m italian with an Italian heritage and culture I shouldn't have or fly an Italian flag if I want to. I thought this was the land of the free, not according to you I gather. With that thought process it appears you wouldn't mind seeing all non Americans and their flags leave this country.

G under P maybe I should have worded that better, it's not o.k to wave another country's flag in protest of America while you are in America as a American.
I have Italian German and Norway in my vanes and only one flag "RED WHITE AND BLUE" ;)

Do you think maybe sometimes people wave another country's flag and it's NOT in protest of the United States?

first off if the world would stop making a political and media issue of it we could move forward and past that crap and then we all might realize that we are all just people no better no worse.

I think it shows greater strength and belief in your country when in another country. When I'm in Great Britain I feel more proud with pride walking around London with my American flagged shirts being away from the US than when I'm here. Maybe that's exactly how these people from other countries feel as well.....even though this is.....America.

I don't understand why people are so afraid of immigration. We have lots of land. Why is it such a Problem for so many people? Why does it frighten them so? :)
