Just saw them last night, and I gotta say The Roots are one of the tightest bands I've ever seen. Stopping and starting on a dime, throwing in covers, tags, Black Thought was PERFECT, and ?uestlove might be the grooviest drummer out there.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

I've never really listened to their music, but they are freaking fantastic on Fallon. All of them are pretty sick players. Great at choosing songs for the guest entrances. Raven Simone was on a few weeks ago and they played one of her songs from when she was 7 years old.

Yeah when Anthony Anderson was on, they played the theme from his old Saturday morning show "Hang Time", a show about a high-school basketball team coached by Reggie Theus whose best player was a girl.

As for best musicians, I'll go with Led Zeppelin. If you ask whose the best rock vocalist of all-time, it's arguable it's Plant. Best guitarist? Arguable it's Page. Drummer? I think it's Bonzo far and away though some swear by Keith Moon. Bass? Please.

I also dismiss the "Page is sloppy live" notion. I think that's just Led Zeppelin's live sound: rough around the edges. Like Nirvana or The White Stripes....and unlike perfectionists such as Pink Floyd.

My jaw was on the floor. Adding beats into certain bars, amazing basslines, great guitar playing. I think the only tighter band I've seen is RUSH, but I preferred the Roots show (and I'm a bigger fan of Rush's music)... Seriously, check them out if they're around your area, you won't be disappointed.

led zeppelin has been a recent topic of conversation in my house and last weekend i heard rob zombie say its ridiculous that all four members of zeppelin were/are so talented. i thought it great that he included JPj in that cause i feel quite often he gets overshadowed by the other 3. john bonham was the driving force behind zeppelin and that is where their power came from. without him they wouldntve been as good as they were... im not sure where im going with that but i wll say whilst at the cinema last week, a trailer came on for the girl with the dragon tattoo and they used the immigrant song under the visuals. just hearing that song gave me chills and i thought jesus christ they were a kick arse fucking monster band.

One of the best trailers I've ever seen. Actually had the desired effect of making me want to see the movie.

ok ok i'll cut you some slack today(only) :)
but i still think you should tell us where the warm up gig is before pj20 @ alpine....

    the best musicians?
ummm it would take me way too long to list and the list would be always way less than complete...and i just don't buy into a winning competition when it comes to this stuff. my personal faves are always singer songwriter guitar player types, but that's also way too defining, cause just because u don't sing doesn't mean you aren't a great musician. also, there are many amazing musicians that go unnoticed by many many people(including myself)...having a thread like this shows that popularity might define success(best), which is a crazy thought, cause i'm willing to bet there are a ton of best musicians that the pit peeps(me included) know nothing about. why leave them out in this "contest"?

i saw the chieftains this year, for st patricks day. nuff said there 8-)
how many pj people have seen that band?
    see what i mean

I want to add Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as a whole. What they create as a whole is just unbelievable.

The outro to this is spectacular and just amazing. All in-sync with each other. Amazing.
