Led Zep, The Doors, Rush, Iron Maiden, Sonic Youth, The Who and many others all have a claim but I never got the Black Sabbath mania? Good band, good songs but pretty ordinary musicians besides Bill Ward.

You mean Geezer? If not, your should. Amazing bass player. Ozzy, ordinary? never heard that.

Hey Dewie, I must confess I take back most of my comments about Sabs! They've never been a band I found was any better through headphones about 20 years ago when most of us owned really shit ones. Since this post I've overdozed on Sabs and yeah, you're quite right. When you can hear it all remastered with no other background noise they are immense and I'm sure I'd have appreciated them more if I'd been born in say 1960 rather than 1971 but Maiden had me firmly by the pods when I was 10. Rock 'n Roll!!

His first album is awesome. His second and third are too mellow, but his live show absolutely destroyed. No wonder his website is http://www.ibreakstrings.com. He plays acoustic, and breaks strings constantly during his sets. I saw him open a fucking circus (for real, the Red River Ex) for Matt Good. $5. Unbelievable.

    absurd

From 68 to 73 he was mindblowing. The direction he would take the jams was revolutionary. They weren't just jammin over chord vamps they were songs in motion.

  • not Huge Rush fan but seen them live twice and there are hard to beat!

But I really love Fleetwood Mac, Mick and John ar one of the greateast rhythm tandems ever and Lindsey is an incredible player and vocalist/songwriter and Stevie is my favorite female singer and considered one of top ten female vocalist by most, and Christine was Great in her own right, they have to be in the mix imo!

Got to also throw the WHO in there, when they had the Iconic lineup with Keith(one of the 3 Greatest Drummers) John(Best Bass Player imo) Pete(one of the greatest Guitarist of that time and Great songwriter and Roger Great frontman!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Mitch Mitchell's drumming alone on "Manic Depression" is probably my favorite drum playing on any song. Jimi is Jimi. Noel also helped keep the rhythm with Mitch to let Jimi go off.

Led Zeppelin, like many others have said. Bonzo was just a beast. Page is Page. JPJ was definitely more of the "musician" of the band.

    Rush. All very talented.

Of course I'm going to say The Beatles. Paul's playing, in general, is amazing. Paul, like JPJ, was definitely more of the "musician" of the band. George's solo's compliment the songs so well. John and Ringo, especially in the early days, kept the rhythm real tight.

The White Stripes. Jack is Jack. Meg had the most important job...keeping the rhythm and everything together. She keeps it very simple. Nothing wrong with simple. From Wikipedia: "Jack White has declared her to be the key component in the White Stripes' sound."

I think the Allman Brothers Band take the title for the band with the best musicians. Everyone in that band is extremely talented.

Each member is just ridiculously talented.

I'm sure the Jimi Hendrix Experience and other bands like Mastodon are talented too. I know Brann Dailor is one of the best drummers on the planet.

Mitche's drumming on 'Fire' is another great example.

I love The Beatles too but Paul is the only one with above average musical talent. No denying they are great song writers.

I forgot about "Fire". He also kills it in that.

Paul was born into a musical family, so I think that's why he has the talent he has. Have you seen The Beatles Anthology? He explains it on there.

Meg's technical ability is nothing. Her shortcomings however help make the stripes great, every time she's late or early jack takes that as a turning point and launches into something spectacular.

Interesting. You just can't include her on a list of average musicians. Nevermind the best. I like how you turned her bad drumming into progressive rock ;)

I don't think she deserves to be on this list, and I don't think her playing would work in ANY other band, however live with the stripes, I've NEVER seen that kind of power come from the stand.
