Like Dimitris I'd go with Deep Purple. Gillan, Blackmore, Paice, Glover & Lord not any other lineup!
Led Zep, The Doors, Rush, Iron Maiden, Sonic Youth, The Who and many others all have a claim but I never got the Black Sabbath mania? Good band, good songs but pretty ordinary musicians besides Bill Ward.

You mean Geezer? If not, your should. Amazing bass player. Ozzy, ordinary? never heard that.

Ozzy is a great entertainer, I've been to a couple shows myself and loved them but I don't really class him as a musician. Geezer is an ok bass player but nothing spectacular to me. Bill Ward is a fantastic drummer and Tony Iommi may have written the riff bible but I don't think Sabs members would have stood out in other bands without each other. Don't get me wrong, I have most of the albums and think they're ok but Led Zep and Deep Purple have something a bit more epic. All three are timeless bands but for musicans that MkII Purps lineup takes some beating.

Ozzy writes lyrics and melodies. He's a musician. Dunno why he wouldn't be. I'm not saying he's the best singer, but I'd venture to guess his done his part on close to 100 tunes.

Geezer is as good or better than any other classic rock bass player that's been mentioned in this thread.
  • My dear original poster,
You are welcome to ignore me or report my post to the administrators as something that offends you. However, in the interest of propagating discussions in open fora such as the one we participate in, why do you not answer my question in your response? Please provide context for the subjective nature of your question such that we might engage in conversation.
What a ridiculous discussion - if every subjective opinion of the best musician is to be taken seriously, then none of them can be taken even at face value, in an epistemological sense. Why is the Internet ridden with so many stories, like the one followed in this thread, that are better left untold?
please take your negativity and keep it away from the thread
    thanks

Sabs win best metal band though! Purps are rock legends but I guess given the music around at the time Sabs were a bit more innovative. Add Led Zep to the list and we've been pretty spoiled really.

  • Again, I question the notion of comparing musicians without a larger context. Please explain how that is perceived as negativity and I will gladly discuss. Peace...

  • Well, I do not see negativity in my original post, just a critique.
As for musicianship, I would split my vote between Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Ustad Zakir Hussain - but without context, would you even begin to understand why I choose to name these artists?
As for not making an analysis, that is your prerogative. As for your own perceived positivity, good on you, mate. Peace ...

Wow! Very impressive. I think it was Joe Satriani who said that prince is one of the most underrated guitarists.

The post said "Which band has the best musicians?" I took that to mean, which band (when considering all band members) was the most musically gifted. Individual musicians is a separate conversation, and there have been numerous "10 greatest guitarists" posts in the past. Prince would certainly be qualified for that list. I am not aware of the musical prowess of the any of the members of The New Power Generation.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

I'd like to think that The Black Crowes has/and have had a good assortment of musicians.

Even though he's no longer with the band, Marc Ford is a beast on the guitar.

just my personal opinion, but I think Chris Robinson is one of the better vocalists of his time.

    I agree wholeheartedly.

Wow. A two-person band with one member that has zero talent? And The Beastie Boys? Seeing them live attempting to play their instruments is one of the most horrid concert-going experiences of my life.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
