I was saying I know you knew I was being sarcastic. I just didn't write it in case people were reading it and thought I was serious.

I can guarantee everyone that Nickelback are NOT inspiring actual young ROCK bands.

Anyone can say "I guarantee" about anything. It doesn't make it true. It usually just means the person is not able to support their claim with legitimate research.
  • it shouldn't be a surprise that a band like Nickelback are still around and very popular. Listen to their latest single, that Burn the World or whatever. And their last one. Sounds EXACTLY like Def Leppard of Hysteria time frame. I loved that band when I was 10. But to me they are a complete joke now (to me). But there are lots of people out there who still like DL, or Bon Jovi (they are playing the fucking Winnipeg Stadium in the summer with Kid Rock-hawt damn!).

To say that Pearl Jam fans are people who like music that "actually means something" is kind of elitist. All types of music means something to someone. In a different way. Just because you find something awe-inspiring in Eddie's lyrics or Mike's shredding or Matt's bashing, doesn't mean that someone can't take something meaningful from a NB song, or a Madonna song, or even a Limp Bizkit song or a Creed song. It's all relative.

I fucking hate Nickelback, and that type of music is a very good part of the reason I don't listen to radio anymore. It's all stuff like that. But hey, it's obviously what the people want. Let them have it. I'll slap on the iPod and listen to PJ all day, or the Tea Party, or the Headstones, or The Hip, or Xavier Rudd, or whoever.

I'm sure there are NB fans that also like Radiohead. You can't paint all fans with the same brush. That's just stupidity.

I hope they play in Portugal again, there are many Nickelback fans in Portugal that want to hear some rock n roll instead of going home...

Just thinking, Nickleback are the Bon Jovi of the 00's-10's.
Lot of young females love them.

I actually don't mind Nickelback, not many bands out there these days that you can have fun throwing stones at.

Like I said before, Nickelback are manufactured by their record label to SELL records. They write songs for one purpose only: to sell records, to sell merchandise, to make money for their record label. They are NOT a rock band....they are a preCALCULATED pop group. Don't let them fool you. They write sappy ballads now to appease middle aged soccer moms to SELL records. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.

    Here here! Spot on!

    Hopethatuchock....You're an idiot.

Sorry, had to say it....If you think up and coming bands are looking at Nickelback and NOT Pearl Jam for inspiration you are missing half your brain.

Dude, stay off the bong for a few days.

    Un-called for.

Anyway, the realization is that not everyone out there finds Pearl Jam to be as inspirational and amazing as we do. It's all a matter of opinion and taste, which is a lot of why Nickelback has found the success they have -- people with poor taste.

And of course some up-coming bands look up to Nickelback...do I need to remind you of how many other molded rock bands that are similar to them there are out there? The guy was just proposing a theory...no need to call him an idiot. Think about becoming one of the respectful users on this board, I promise you it is worth it.

  • Don't know if this thread is dead or not yet, just an interesting observation...

On Rhapsody, Nickelback's description says, "Since the mid-90s Nickelback have evolved from sounding like a Pearl Jam tribute band to..."

Pearl Jam (along with several other great bands who I would have never thought of) are listed in their influences. Of course, it's just Rhapsody, I doubt the band directly has any control of what goes on it.

It would be interesting to know Nickelback's opinion of Pearl Jam, and vice versa.
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

the terminex guy came the other day and while we were talking he told me he was going to see nickelback soon and was really excited about it. breaking benjamin and i forget who else he said would be there but he was so pumped to see nickelback! i felt bad to rain on his parade and give him my real opinion so i said that seemed cool to see all those bands but he really excited about nickelback

and then the other day i was leaving a conversation as someone was coming in and as i was walking away my ears perked up when they were asked what they've been up to and they mentioned the city nickelback had just played and he was pretty enthusiastic about how great a show it was....

    4) is a fact (sorry, my High School brother and his friends are over all the time and they can't stand Nickelback. They think Nickelback is for old mothers. They may not buy Pearl Jam but they sure as hell respect them and love their live records)
I have found this to be the case with a few of my friend's younger siblings around here and also my sister and her friends in Kentucky. None of them like Nickelback, but they do at least "respect" Pearl Jam. My sister did a report on one of the songs off of Backspacer in her music class at her high school a few months ago. 8-)

9 times out of 10, anyone with any kind of musical talent most likely will not be inspired by Nickelback.. I'm sure there are tons of young kids inspired by Nickelback, but I can tell you, they aren't ever leaving their parents garage.
I try to keep tabs with some of the local music scene here in SLC. I have yet to see anyone ever mention Nickelback or ANY similar band, but the last show I saw locally (a group called The Terks) said that 'the next song we're going to play is from a band that we all are inspired by and look up to' and then went into Betterman. I was actually a bit skeptical at how "big" of fans they were until they shot out a blistering "Save It For Later" tag at the end.

I post on another band's board and their fans LOVE nickelback. I'm not into nickelback bashing, but this one lady's username makes me want to gag: Chad's Girl.
