Like I said before, Nickelback are manufactured by their record label to SELL records. They write songs for one purpose only: to sell records, to sell merchandise, to make money for their record label. They are NOT a rock band....they are a preCALCULATED pop group. Don't let them fool you. They write sappy ballads now to appease middle aged soccer moms to SELL records. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.

This is the truest and best post of the thread. Nickelback is a talentless machine to make a corporate music label money. At least PJ went #1 with Backspacer on their own label with minimum press. I dare any shit band like Nickelback or Creed to sell an album and be successful without a label backing them.

There *was* nothing wrong with it... until I was about twelve years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys.
Hmm... well, why don't you just go by Mike instead of Michael?
No way! Why should I change? He's the one who sucks.

honestly... I hate to say it but I saw Nickelback in concert back in 2001 at the Bob Carpenter Center at University of Delaware. They were upstaged by both opening bands, Default and Theory of a Deadman. None of them were popular at the time. Nickelback just released their second album, which was their first commercial hit album. I was a fan of The State but after that show I lost all taste for them musically... They are a POP band. They make records to sell records first, for art...maybe second. Their is no comparison to PJ. It is apples and oranges. Lady GAGA is the top seller on ticketmaster right now! Doesn't that say it all. It is about the characters and the show for most people, not the talent and artistery...

This post got me to go on these fuckers wiki. page. It had the foliowing insert

"In 2002, Chad Kroeger collaborated with Josey Scott and Gaige Corvo who played the lead guitar on the Spider-Man theme song, "Hero". This also featured Tyler Connolly, Mike Kroeger, Matt Cameron, and Jeremy Taggart."

edit. Yes I know that wikipedia shouldn't be a source for factual information

When Pearl Jam came tp Salt Lake City for the first time they didn't even sell out the E-Center (a medium sized arena). I talked to one of the ushers and found out that the week before they sold out for some emo-crap-band...I can't even remember the name anymore. Sad.

Yes, I was going to mention this. Unfortunate moment in Matt's career (not his drumming on the track, just that he worked with him) but I am pretty sure it was just a session thing, I am not sure Matt even ever met Chad. And also, I dont think Jeremy Taggart (of Our Lady Peace) actually plays on the song. He appears in the video pretending to play drums to what was really played by Matt. It was sort of a return of a favor to Matt, who helped OLP out when Taggart got hurt and Matt played on two of their songs so they could finish their album.
words seem so out of place.

Sorry, had to say it....If you think up and coming bands are looking at Nickelback and NOT Pearl Jam for inspiration you are missing half your brain.

Dude, stay off the bong for a few days.

Wow thanks dude! I love being called an idiot for being 100% right. New bands want money, album sales, sellout tours and Va-jay jay. Not standing up to ticketmaster or bashing GW Bush. For that reason, they are looking to someone like Nickelback and not Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam sadly aren't that relevant anymore.

That's why most bands are just terrible and that's why rock music was almost dead, until Jack White came on the music scene and saved it. Pearl Jam and Jack White are keeping rock alive, along with Dave Grohl.

Sadly, music today is not about the music anymore. Artists just want to be rich and famous and they're all about the singles. Where the fuck is music that means something?! Where are the fucking albums?! Where's artwork that you can stare at for hours?! Thank God for PJ, Jack White, Radiohead, and Dave Grohl. They know how to make albums.

    5. I hate to say this because I hate that band with every fiber of my being but they are much more relevant than Pearl Jam is.

so you're telling me the Target commercial didn't work?
  • they arent more relevant. they are more radio friendly. huge difference.

its not really a new trend anyway. there is always a shitty band at the top of the charts. Poison? Creed? Limp Bizkit? and a lot more. they're all practically forgotten now. Nickelback will die eventually too.

    1. Radio play
    2. Record promotion
    3. Cheaper tickets? (Not sure about that one)
    4. They tour regularly everywhere

    Yes to all of this.

Hate to break it to some of you, but Pearl Jam just isn't that popular anymore. Happens when you don't play a concert in a city in oh, 7 or 8 years.
