I was just sitting at home bored on a Sunday night and I ventured onto the Tickemaster website. I decided to check out Nickelback demand and available tickets in the same cities that Pearl Jam is playing. Nickelback has sold out almost all of the same cities. WTF!

THIS IS A SAD DAY IN MUSIC!!!!

Is the midwest full of mindless music enthusiasts? Do they not understand good music?

      1. Radio play
      2. Record promotion
      3. Cheaper tickets? (Not sure about that one)
      4. They tour regularly everywhere
      5. I hate to say this because I hate that band with every fiber of my being but they are much more relevant than Pearl Jam is.

Nickelback will NOT be remembered in 20 years. This isn't a band, it is a manufactured "rock product". They shouldn't be allowed to play at the same venues as Pearl Jam. They should at least pay Pearl Jam royalties for destroying rock music.

Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and will be remembered as one of the top American Rock Bands EVER!!!

JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED in the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By relevant I mean...I feel like there are a lot of up and coming bands who probably look up to Nickelback and would cite them as an influence (bad bands). I don't see a lot of bands talking about Pearl Jam. I could be completely wrong and I hope it's not the case.

As for them being remembered in 20 years, I disagree. They will absolutely be remembered but remember as one of the worst bands of our generation.

Sorry, had to say it....If you think up and coming bands are looking at Nickelback and NOT Pearl Jam for inspiration you are missing half your brain.

Not that I would ever want to agree with HTYC, but most bands (especially young and dumb upcoming ones, that care nothing about the music, just wanna be rockstars! haha- get it?) want the money, fame, glory, sell-out crowds, becoming sell-outs themselves for the sake of fame...

And good for them! Keeps the riff-raff from all of our shows... ;)

up and coming bands are looking at nickleback as a band that they do not aspire to be.
sure they are popular, sell a shit load of records, sell out shows all over the world, but they are also very widely hated

It is sad to say...but Nickelback is more popular than Pearl Jam. They are much more commercial and their songs get more radio play.

yeah, nickelback is more popular right now, in that they are played at crappy pop stations and stuff like that, and people who have no taste in music like them, and people who only listen to what the radio tells them to like them, you can't really argue that PJ is more popular in that respect.

But as for relevance, and more importantly, influence, PJ is way above Nickelback. I have actually been really surprised to see some of my favorite younger bands recently mention listening to Pearl Jam, and I think even a lot of people who might not love PJ's music, at least respect and look up to their path and outlook on how to approach a career in music. And like someone else said, I think Nickelback is more of a band that a lot of people look at and would prefer not to be like.
words seem so out of place.

people today like shit music, if pearl jam toured every summer they'd probably sell just as many tickets. As for albums, its clear, sadly nickelback sells more than any band, but i've never seen such hatred for a succesful rock band, they are not a band, i bet they dont even write there own songs. they are as bad as the backstreet boys.

Just kidding bud.......Not trying to be hostile, I just despise Nickelback and the music that they manufacter. Viva Pearl Jam!

It just sucks when business men started becoming rock stars instead of truly talented artists. In this day and age, its almost all about how you market and sell yourself rather than how music has organically been created.

    • That Nickelback concert will be full of Ed Hardy, Tapout and Affliction shirts. The pre-show discussion will mostly be about Dane Cook, MMA and tribal armband tattoos. Keep in mind, this is the same country that made Weird Al Yankovic a millionaire. I think you would all agree with me, but I would rather have 500 people that appreciate good music and creative energy, than an arena full of those pathetic DBs.

Like I said before, Nickelback are manufactured by their record label to SELL records. They write songs for one purpose only: to sell records, to sell merchandise, to make money for their record label. They are NOT a rock band....they are a preCALCULATED pop group. Don't let them fool you. They write sappy ballads now to appease middle aged soccer moms to SELL records. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.

This is the truest and best post of the thread. Nickelback is a talentless machine to make a corporate music label money. At least PJ went #1 with Backspacer on their own label with minimum press. I dare any shit band like Nickelback or Creed to sell an album and be successful without a label backing them.

There *was* nothing wrong with it... until I was about twelve years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys.

honestly... I hate to say it but I saw Nickelback in concert back in 2001 at the Bob Carpenter Center at University of Delaware. They were upstaged by both opening bands, Default and Theory of a Deadman. None of them were popular at the time. Nickelback just released their second album, which was their first commercial hit album. I was a fan of The State but after that show I lost all taste for them musically... They are a POP band. They make records to sell records first, for art...maybe second. Their is no comparison to PJ. It is apples and oranges. Lady GAGA is the top seller on ticketmaster right now! Doesn't that say it all. It is about the characters and the show for most people, not the talent and artistery...

This post got me to go on these fuckers wiki. page. It had the foliowing insert

"In 2002, Chad Kroeger collaborated with Josey Scott and Gaige Corvo who played the lead guitar on the Spider-Man theme song, "Hero". This also featured Tyler Connolly, Mike Kroeger, Matt Cameron, and Jeremy Taggart."

edit. Yes I know that wikipedia shouldn't be a source for factual information

When Pearl Jam came tp Salt Lake City for the first time they didn't even sell out the E-Center (a medium sized arena). I talked to one of the ushers and found out that the week before they sold out for some emo-crap-band...I can't even remember the name anymore. Sad.
