I seriously can´t stand them. Way too bombastic arrangements and the songs are hardly there.
Also cannot listen to more than one song at a time because of that voice....

    Their sound is good.

Their lyrics seem very basic, uncomplicated and bland, particularly when comparing them to Radiohead or PJ.

    have you listened to Backspacer?

I'm not saying that the words "gems and rhinestones" are a little cheesy, but the lyrics of The End, lyrics and lyrical timing and originality of Johnny Guitar, and a few other songs are amazing! ...though The Fixer, yeah, pretty-pop. But their pop-stuff seems not intended to fool anyone into thinking they are very deep. Muse's does to me. Like they want to say something, but they have nothing to say.

disagree....the black holes album is their best in my opinion

    powerful stuff on there....

I saw Muse open for U2, it was basically just an incredibly loud , not clear wall of undesirable noise!!

As good as PJ live, you have got to be kidding me.

Your opinion. Until I have seen Muse live I'm not in the position to agree or disagree with you. I like Muse's music, and have 3 of their cds. Fascinated to see how they reproduce what they come up with on record live on stage. Surely they use other musicians as well as themselves? I've heard mixed reports about them live, but would like to see them in the future. Prefer PJs music though.

me as well....but for three little guys they produce a wall of sound
I would say that they use sequencers & backing tracks.

  • The correct answer is Wilco ;) , but I saw Muse open for U2 and they were awesome. The only questionable vibe I get from them is whether they mix up their setlist during the tour that much. I hope I'm wrong but with the kind of show they put on it seems like it might not change much from night to night.

Anyone seen them on back-to-back nights or familar enough with their setlists to shed some light on this?

I would guess that they are like U2 and have a very firm setlist....

I agree with you (saw them open up for U2 at Giant Stadium) -- ok, but nothing special. Decent for a warm-up band, but i wouldnt pay to see them as a headliner.

Muse can be a fun band to see but they arent in the same league as pearl jam. Any band that uses as many prercorded elements and is synced to a click track like muse cant be compared to PJ. I have to agree about wilco though, those guys really are an incredibly talented band

I saw Muse on the Absolution tour in 03 and it was an incredible show second to none as far as sound quality and visuals go but as that side of the band continues to get better on each tour the two albums since have been utter shite! REM, Tom Waits, Sonic Youth were all much better live than Muse and I'm sure PJ in June will join them in that bracket. Muse pretty much stick to the same setlist for the entire leg of a tour with only one or two songs getting rotated and no big jams either which is lame for three guys with so much talent. :?

Wait, I dont come around these boards much anymore, but when did the "Backspacer has simple lyrics" discussion come into play? Am I missing something, cause I just dont see it. What makes that album the poster child of this opinion?
None of their albums have ever really had complicated lyrics. Or is it because the album is a tad bit poppier, that this is the excuse all the "cool" fans are using to reinforce that they dont like the new album.
And so you see, I have come to doubt

I have trouble believing anyone who saw Muse live really believes they suck. They are just a phenomenal live act! I was converted after seeing them at Penn's Landing for the Black Holes tour. The FU Center show last week was just fantastic.

As far as being as good as PJ live... Well, they definitely put on more of an overall show, especially with lights, effects, lasers, etc., whereas PJ is a more stripped down concert experience. But I think it would get pretty repetitive to see Muse, say, 4x in a row, like you do with PJ. You're gonna know what's coming up in the setlist in all likelihood. And while Muse has some really great songs, they don't have anything to pull out along the likes of Black, Immortality, Corduroy...

this was the same thought i had when i saw Arcade Fire and White Stripes.

Both of these are better than PJ live...

That's not me slagging PJ off, I just find the other 2 were more fantastic as a live entities :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

ive seen them live and i wouldnt say they suck, but they definitely arent what i'd call a "live band". A heavy reliance on backing tracks (guitars, sequenced parts, loops ....i cant say vocals b/c that im not sure about, but i have read they use pre-recorded back up vocals) really makes their performance sound lifeless. yes they sound tight as hell, but thats what happens when you're locked to a click track. Now im not a muse hater by any stretch, but I find it a bit annoying when people claim their live show to be amazing. Its absolutely a great SHOW, but its not a great live performance.

VR was my first REAL concert (on their first tour). I'll never forget my excitement when Duff McKagen came out and started jamming the intro to 'Sucker Train Blues'.

matt bellamy owns the guitar. eddie.... doesn't
just to watch matt play is reason enough to say muse is an awesome live act. everyone on here who's questioning this thread saying that muse isn't 20 years into their career, muse' lyrics aren't as deep as eddie's... blah blah blah.. if you actually read the title to this thread, he's comparing them by their live performances.
trust me, it's not that hard to believe that another band is as good as pearl jam on stage.

My problem with Muse is i can't stand their music. Fake dramatic to me. I just can't buy into their thing
