Your opinion. Until I have seen Muse live I'm not in the position to agree or disagree with you. I like Muse's music, and have 3 of their cds. Fascinated to see how they reproduce what they come up with on record live on stage. Surely they use other musicians as well as themselves? I've heard mixed reports about them live, but would like to see them in the future. Prefer PJs music though.

    Their sound is good.

Their lyrics seem very basic, uncomplicated and bland, particularly when comparing them to Radiohead or PJ.

I'm not saying that the words "gems and rhinestones" are a little cheesy, but the lyrics of The End, lyrics and lyrical timing and originality of Johnny Guitar, and a few other songs are amazing! ...though The Fixer, yeah, pretty-pop. But their pop-stuff seems not intended to fool anyone into thinking they are very deep. Muse's does to me. Like they want to say something, but they have nothing to say.

nope. it's just the three of them on stage. unless you count the guy doing some technical work with the sound (i don't consider him a musician, though). matt bellamy owns the guitar. i bought their haarp cd not too long ago and it's one of the best live cds i own.

not to mention his voice is fucking epic on stage

ps i am aware that there are trumpet players on stage during this video...

When I saw the title of your thread, I knew it had to be Muse. I saw them in Philly 2 weeks ago and it was jaw dropping. Probably the best show I have ever seen....and that includes over 20 pearl jam shows and a handful of Radiohead and Metallica shows (my other favorite live bands). Everything about the show was phenomenal...the lights, the stage setup, the setlist, the sound that 3 people were able to generate...everything was perfect and it was like $20 cheaper than the Spectrum PJ shows across the street with relatively no lights and a standard stage. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Spectrum shows but Muse gave me much more for my money and seemed like a better value. I went with my girlfriend and 2 friends and ALL of us agreed it was probably the best show we have ever witnessed.

And to those questioning Muse's lyrics....have you ever listened to LBC?

Seeing them live is not as good as whining and starting gazillion threads here?

Totally agree. Probably b/c of a drummer's sense of timing that I share. Also agree on lyrics, b/c there are some phenomenal lyrics on Backspacer despite some of the intertwined cheese/laziness. Nevertheless, Ed can still write as powerful a song as anyone. Main point is, I have seen Muse 3 times. Most recently, last Friday at MSG and they are a powerful force of sound, and a great live act. However, they will always make me think "Radiohead on speed". . . . .just not as good as Radiohead.

i think there's a lot of bands that are on par with pearl jam when playing live
mmj (like you said), jack johnson, jimmy eat world, dropkick murphys, weezer, sam roberts... to name a few. those are just bands that i've seen, though. i'm not gonna base my opinion on live dvds i own lol but if i'm allowed to, it looks like rage, coldplay, and social distortion could be up there, too.
