When Muse celebrates their 20th year together as a band that is still selling out shows then get back to me comparing them to PJ. It's all about longevity.

Formed in 1994, this shouldn't be a problem. In fact, it is hard to compare the two with one's fan base still growing, and the other's... well, you know.

Live performances aside, I have to say that MUSE's merchandise is far better than PJ's current offerings.

Comparing Muse to PJ is very difficult. Muse has a snazzy live show, but they lack any type of interaction onstage.

PJ is all soul, Muse is all technique.

I agree ... I have seen Muse a number of times live .... technically brilliant ... live, boring as hell,Matthew Bellamy is devoid of all charisma

Kate Hudson prolly sucked all of Matt's charisma out of him.

I don't doubt that they play the crap out of their songs and are great live coz i've heard this before, the only thing is, their songs are boring and I find the singer a little bit too dramatic and 'look at me' 'look at me'!!! :D

Muse were pretty awesome on the Absolution tour but like people say, there is something missing with them. There's no spark between them and the audience and as technically brilliant as they were I've never been back to see them again despite their extravagant shows and the Absolution album was the last one that was any good anyway. As a live experience I'd say Muse have only a fraction of what PJ have to offer.
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.

  • Hey if you like em thats all that matters, but RUSH would BLOW those guys off the stage, and they are no PJ yet either! But Opinions we all know what they r like ;)

Actually I do not know what you mean, no disrespect meant, but if its a shot at PJ fan base not growing, that is not accurate atleast in my experience, I have seen PJ since 1991 and have meant more new fans at shows and online in last 2 or 3 years than in previous 10 so I would say PJ fan base is expanding to younger folks experiencing their music now.Again if that is not what you meant, sorry. I have seen Muse while working venue security and to me nothing special about them, they try and put on a good show, but I seen 20 or 30 bands off top of my head that are just electric live w/ no effort IMO!

How does longevity equate to a good live show?

No it's not. The core lineups of the 3 greatest bands(Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd ever were together around half of what PJ has been.

I'm not saying Muse is in the same league, but longevity is really not important when talkin how a great a band is.

I can't say I've had the same experience as you regarding meeting new fans. I go to the shows with the same 3-4 people I did in high school, and the others, who I've met through trading boots. And not to sound like a brat, the people I meet at shows tend to be sitting in the same section as me, hence, in the Club for just as long.

But if you look at the last releases for both bands, coming out around the same time in September 2009... Muse's The Resistance cracks 1 million sold in about 5 weeks... Backspacer cracks 1/2 million in about 6 months. Should one think that PJ's new fan base is just more adept as stealing the album online as opposed to Muse's?

Should one think that Muse is a better overall band and Live act because they sold more records faster? To me nowadays records sales are not the best judge of whaat is Good music, I am pretty sure Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga sold more records than anyone this past year, r they the best live band? Maybe they do have a faster growing fan base, but I can not remember going to a PJ show ever actually(10 total) going back to 1991, When they were not sold out. I seen Muse play the TU(Pepsi at the Time) Arena in Albany NY seats about 18,000+/- depending on set up and I would say it was over 50% full and again I would say going back to original posters claim they are "the best live show he as ever seen+, well I do not know how many he seen, but I have seen over 500 and they are not in the mix IMO, but they seem to try and put on a good show, the music was as I try and remember OK.I have seen PJ at same venue SOLD OUT both times in same time frame. It really does not matter if you like em go see them, I not going because someone says they r the greatest live show he has seen, as I said before RUSH even now would blow off the stage no bells and whistle or extra horn sections just Geddy, Alex and Neil!

This thread is still going? I saw 12 shows last year and I'd put PJ at Hyde Park at No 3.
Muse at Wembley Stadium were awesome and No 2 but may have been the best if it had been an indoor arena. The best live show was Biffy Clyro at Wembley Arena.

The best interaction with the crowd was PJ but that doesn't make a show for me.
