They stand no chance right now to be decent so I am ok with the losing. I don't like seeing them getting boat raced, but our best pitchers are prehistoric old and the bullpen is mostly everyone else's cast-offs. One more year with a high draft pick is not a bad way to end this bastardized season.
We are at the point where they can call up Bart and Ramos and not have it count towards their free agency. I hope we at least get to see those two soon. A Ramos/Dubbon/Yaz outfield would at least give the fans something to watch the rest of the way through since that should be the starting outfield next year. How Baltimore missed on Yaz I do not know. He has been a late bloomer but he has almost had enough games played to see a full seasons stats. He has shown he can be a .280 hitter with 30 homers and 100 RBI's while playing a serviceable RF. If he can keep his strikeouts down and his walks up like has has to start this season he is a very nice piece for next season. Its just too bad he was a late bloomer and is already 30. He won't be around by the time this team is good again.

I'm still holding my breath on yaz, waiting for the other shoe to drop. not many guys "bloom" this late.
solano and flores have been pleasant surprises. at least, we are beating the d**gers more than the MLB average percentage.

Neither did the Greenies, Spitballers, Bat loaders, Adderall takers, etc. etc. etc. etc. white players who only played against whites and the Commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, from that era. Also, the Commissioner, Bud Selig, from the Steroid Era.
If this is about your guy Bonds, he was a jerk to reporters for the last x# of years in his career by most accounts.
of course it is! most feared hitter of the last 60 years.
griffey actually could have done roids too. blasphemy, I know, but not out of the question.

If Griffey doubled in size and suddenly could check swing 550 foot homers he would be all time leader. (And have a much larger head)

not all steroids guys doubled in size. griffey was the first person bonds told when he decided to get on the roid train. the mitchell report named 12 mariners. griffey broke down....

Part of the benefit of steroids was quick healing. Griff had messed up stuff linger for a long time.
I don't have any proof that Griffey did not roid up but there were many stories about how he was pissed that he didn't, when Fathead went on to become the human wrecking ball with a bat. That was something a number of reporters around the Reds wrote about - one of those "in the open secrets". Nothing points to him having roided out, unless they make you fat, injured, and cranky.
Griffey's career HR totals being a near perfect bell curve and having the type of injuries consistent with breaking down after PED use later in his career certainly could raise a flag.
This weekend we rock Portland

Haters can hate but no legitimate links were ever made between Griffey and roid use.
Not talking Fathead, Big Sloppi, or Roger Cheatmens. These people were all easy marks with connections to cheating.
Manfred questions David Ortiz's positive drug test, urges leniency by Hall voters
BOSTON - Commissioner Rob Manfred says it’s unfair for Red Sox slugger David Ortiz’s legacy to be tarnished by his positive drug test in Major League Baseball’s 2003 anonymous drug testing survey, since it’s unknown whether Ortiz actually used a performance-enhancing drug.
David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez commemorate the Red Sox's 2004 championship during ceremonies Sunday.
There were at least 10 false positives in the survey testing, Manfred said Sunday before Ortiz’s final regular-season game at Fenway Park, and it’s possible that Ortiz was one of the false tests.
Manfred confirmed that Ortiz also has never failed a drug test since MLB implemented its drug policy in 2004 and strengthened it numerous times in the decade-plus since.
“Even if your name was on that (anonymous) list,’’ Manfred said, “it’s entirely possible that you were not a positive.
“I don’t think anyone understands very well what that list was.’’
The provision in the agreement between MLB and the union was that if at least 5% of all players tested positive for steroids in what was supposed to be anonymous survey testing in 2003, Major League Baseball would have the right to implement a drug-testing policy in 2004. There were 104 positive tests. While there were at least 10 tests that were not scientifically cleared, Manfred said, since the number easily eclipsed 5%, there was no need to re-test the disputed results.
“There were double digits of names, more than 10, which we knew there were legitimate scientific questions about whether or not those truly were positives," Manfred said Sunday. "If there were test results like that today on a player, and we tried to discipline, there would be a big grievance over it. It would be fully aired, vetted, tried, resolved.
“We did not do that. Those issues and ambiguities were never resolved because they didn’t matter. We would have sorted that out if we ever thought those names would become public. At the time, we knew we had enough positives to trigger the testing the following year. It didn’t seem necessary to get to Ground Zero on a whole bunch of anonymous, ambiguous tests.’’
Manfred says that no knows, or will ever know, whether Ortiz was among the false-positives. Those test results have been destroyed; Ortiz has maintained that he's baffled how he tested positive.
“Back then, it was hard to distinguish between certain substances that were legal, available over the counter, and not banned under our program,’’ Manfred said, “and certain banned substances.
“We were not certain it was a banned substance as opposed to something that was available over the counter and legal. … Even if Rob Manfred’s name was on that list, he might have been one of those 10 or 15 where there was probably, or possibly, a very legitimate explanation that did not involve the use of a banned substance. I think it’s really unfortunate that anybody’s name was ever released publicly."
Since it will ever remain unknown whether Ortiz’s positive test was actually authentic Manfred says, it would be unfair for the Hall of Fame voters to use the result against Ortiz’s candidacy.
“Whatever judgement writers decide to make with respect to players who have tested positive or otherwise been adjudicated under our program,’’ Manfred said, “that’s up to them. That’s a policy decision. They have to look into their conscience and decide how they evaluate that against the Hall of Fame criteria.
“What I do feel is unfair that in situations where it is leaks, rumors, innuendo, not confirmed positive-tests results, that is unfair to the players. I think that would be wrong.’’

For Big Papi it has as much to do with that and all of the rumors as it does with him going from average player as a 25-28 year old to being an incredible hitter from then until he was 41.
Hmmm....I don’t see manfred urging leniency for bonds.
my whole thing is nobody knows for SURE about 99% of the players in the steroid era. I’m pretty sure piazza, pudge and bagwell all used...but they get a pass because they didn’t antagonize reporters. I have suspicions about rickey henderson, as well. Bonds had two newspaper reporters, full time for two years, and the federal government after him. I’ve read the feds spent $75M. no one else faced that kind of scrutiny, if they faced any at all.
