  • There's no win here. What are you going to do...deny your mom?

My mom became my facebook friend. From time to time she will post a comment under a picture or a video or a status update, saying "Who raised you"? Then my friends chime in and get a laugh out of it.

my mom knows i won't 'friend' her on FB...I flat out told her there are things she just doesn't want/need to know at this point. she agreed.
I love to turn you on
  • Jeags, once your mother gets to know your internet persona, she de-friend your ass.

    Don't worry about that.

Don't trust your own daughter bro?

I would be more concerned about who tries to befriend her. Teenage kids seem to have the perception that the more people you have on your facebook, the cooler you are....well that leaves them open and very vulnerable to some very fucked up and perverted types of creatures. And at that age they just don't have the skills to deal with these predators, at least having a parent she can trust on her list means that if she does unfortunately become unstuck, at least they can help and show what is appropriate and innappropriate.

I think when you become a parent your eyes become opened to a whole other world, and the things our parents had to protect us from when we were kids, simply don't compare to what parents have to deal with today due to advances in technology and the reach and powers of the internet. My son is nearly 5yo, and I hate to think what measures will have to be taken to keep him safe as he gets older. :?

What you've said right here is oen of the main reasons I battle myself in the decision on whether I really want kids or not. Truthfully, I really do when the right time comes, but I fear bringing such an innocent soul into this fucked up world we've created. Child pornography, and predators are plaguing the country it seems. You hear about it all the time and that shit is what ultimately makes me wonder if I do want to create something that's going to have to face those evils.

Too true dude! I was blissfully ignorant of so much until I did my justice diploma, and one of my lecturers was a child safety officer...WOW I have a totally new perspective on what were innocent/cute things. Like there is no way in hell that my child will ever have an item of clothing or bag or anything that has him name plastered across the front of it in plain view for the world to see. Kiddie fiddlers use that as way to convince a child they know them or thier parents, simple things like that. I was having a conversation about this with my parents the other day and my dad just said, that they never had to worry about this stuff when they were kids cos it didn't happen. But that's bullshit I told him, it was simply taboo to talk about it in thise days, then I reminded him of a school friend of his that was in a boys home after his parents split up and the father took off....tell him that child predators didn't exist in those days!! These types have always been there lurking, and waiting for thier prey to come along, it's just that these days we are made to be aware of it as it is plastered across every form of media available. We as parents have the power to make our children aware of approapriate and inappropraite behaivours, and to provide them with a loving, caring and trusting environment so that they feel safe and kn ow who to go to if they feel thier safety has been conmpromised.

  • Only read the thread title, but this is a fate worse than death.

I could see it now: you'll leave a status update during a game saying something like "Howard is the fucking man" or "The Mets are pussies" and your mom is gonna comment below it that you really shouldn't use language like that in case your boss ever checks this.

Bahahhahaha... I ended up teaching my 60yo dad to use ebay so he would leave me alone!!! Seriously, I was so sick of him always getting me to search for stuff for him, like I have nothing else to do??? Now he is addicted, I am impressed. From a man who would phone me from work to ask how to spell a word because he just couldn't be bothered to use the spell checker for a dcument, to ebayaholic!

See you can teach old dogs new tricks! Although I pray my parents never ever feel the need to go on facebook, how much more do they need to know about my life when we live in the same house!!! LOL

my mom's been my friend ages, without hassle. I dont' hide things from my parents anymore, tho...they're cool.

    Funny semi-related story :
I asked my cousin my her mom (my aunt) withdrew her friend request from me...my cousin said, "I don't know, I deleted her a while ago - she kept meddling and causing trouble'....
    I just laughed it off.
So I see this aunt for the first time in years, a couple weeks ago.
She's askin about girlfriends...I mention that I've been on dates, mostly thru online dating sites....she says to me, "oh ya, I go on that one too"..(she's mid 60's and married, so I'm shocked)....I say 'really?"
she says, "ya, I made a profile for Jeff and have been trying to line up dates for him"....Jeff is my 40 year old cousin, her son.  so funny....
