10 Club Staff vs. 10 Club Model

Look I met Santos at the Vic......we were standing in a line in Chicago's August heat for eight hours. The guy was working his tail off
hardest working guy there. There is a colossal difference between a good person and a good system. 10 Club staff are good people, but their business model is flawed. I know the X Mas single is an inside joke to most of us now----but if you were new to this scene this would raise some flags I would think. I am a teacher. If I told my principal my grades were not ready for report cards, I would face consequences. The only adjective I can think of is a bit disorganized
again, not the people, the system. If I pull the trigger on this NO trip to Jazzfest, and then 10 dates are released for exclusive PJ shows at indoor venues, I will feel misled. That's not fair to people's wallets in these times. So to sum it up I hope in the near future, "It makes much more sense, to live in the present tense"

It could be simply "disorganized". Or it could be that whoever wrote the business plan doesn't know how to write one.

Maybe flawed, but they do their best with the info they are given and allowed to release.....

The are an information medium, so they do what they do with what they are given.

I see your point, but really I think tenclub try hard to please, but they havethe impossible task of trying to meet an impossible level of expectation from a rabid fanbase.

remember whatever they do would never be good enough to a few people.

I am not sure I agree.......I think squashing rumors or saying we are trying for dates would put most people's anxiety to bed.

I think we should keep in mind that we have NO IDEA what kind of constraints/demands/rules/etc that the 10c operates under. I'm sure it's not entirely up to them what information gets passed to us, so maybe we shouldn't assume anything about the job they're doing...

hey, rumours are rumours.....no need to quash what isnt real or what has no substance otherwise theyd be here all day. Sure if something of substance comes up AND they have the firm information - maybe they could dispel this....but then they would be creating a rod for their own backs....as the hunger for the information they hold would become more, and probably start a whole new round of rumours...come on you know how it is round here.

and you really think 'we are trying for a few dates' wouldnt stoke things up around here? and would do the opposite and put a few anxieties to bed? really?

I agree a little with the O.P., BUT I quit really giving a crap about when and how the band announces anything, just because of the WAY that they do it, my opinion is they do it how they do it and I have no control over it. Do I think the way they do it is convenient or orderly? No not at all, but I just try and not complain about it on here just to avoid all the people that drink the kool aid!

I saw them at ACL and I live in Austin, so that was easy, when they announced the Seattle shows, I didn't crap my pants, buy an airline ticket and jump at the chance to buy tickets to the shows. I waited, bought my airline ticket and then bought single lower level seats on the internet at my leisure, then out in front of Key Arena, both nights, I could have got in for $30 to $40 if I didn't have tickets.

I just simply do not think that the band will announce a tour all at once any longer, but hey if that's how they want to do it, more power to them, I have no idea why, but that's how they want to do it. I saw Phish last summer at Deercreek and Alpine Valley, they simply announced the shows, when tickets would be available through the band and that was pretty much it. They didn't announce some shows and then wait and announce more and then wait again and announce the rest, it was all just at once.

It's not really rocket science! I will more than likely just go see Phish again this year, would love to see PJ, but my good friend is getting married on the same day they are playing Jazz Fest, so that's a no go. And since they really don't play anywhere else around where I live I just have to chose from MANY of the other bands that chose to play in Austin and in Texas. Back Spacer came out in September, there was PLENTY of time to tour for that album then, here it is almost 5 months later and Soundgarden saying they are going to tour, so who knows what will happen, I will just have to be happy with the fact that I saw PJ 3 times last year, plus the simulcast of the ACL taping am I a little upset, sure, but I'm 40 now and have TONS of other things to worry about.

It's very simple for me at this point. Pearl Jam's fan club is pathetically executed. Shame on whoever is in charge of this business, because they are flat-out taking advantage of people's obsessions with this band, with their erratic cryptic messages posted on this board, not even providing rough estimations of where in the world the band will be (for example, "stay tuned for tour dates", is an absurd statement to make, whereas "stay tuned for information on an upcoming East Coast fall tour" would be relatively useful). The fan club single being consistently put out MONTHS after the "holidays" with no word on when it will come, or why it was late, is just another example of the horrendous communication either between the band and the fan club, or the fan club and the fans. I could listen a hundred things the fan club does right - but a thousand things they do wrong.

If you pull the trigger and go to New Orleans...

    It is your decision....

YOUR decision that YOU made....Even though you know damned well there will be more dates announced....

They will announce shows, give you 24-48 hours to make your decision, and then sell the tickets.....
Then a month or so later.....They will announce more shows, and again give you 24-48 hours to make your decision.....

It has been that way for a few years now....You know it....I know it....We all know it...

Right or wrong....It is just the way it is.....

It has not been this way for a few years now Speedy. Only in the last year, has news been piddling out here and there. If you remember, the East Coast tour, summer of '08, all came out at once. That's right, all of the cities were mentioned at once. It can easily be done AGAIN.

rule #1 on the board, never post anything that is possibly negative about the band or fan club or else the 10cult will jump all over you...

    If I remember correctly...

The way the 06 shows were announced...
    It was a complete clusterfuck.....

Which explains why I ended up in Camden and Cincy.....When it was later announced they were playing Hawaii.......

'06 was a full tour. I personally don't know how it was announced as I joined in June '06, but what you're trying to defend here doesn't work because that wasn't a 'few city' tour like last year.

the 10c was never designed to operate as a business-profit, and thus maximum efficiency, were never the goals
if the band is playing a concert somewhere, we will hear about it and have a shot at the best seats in the house (except for festivals) when and if it happens
really, thats all there is to it.
    whats the problem?
