Ed should release My City of Ruins; all proceeds go to Haiti

just an idea, but one way for the band and maybe all of us to help contribute to the relief effort in Haiti could be if Ed (or the whole band) digitally release a (studio) version of Bruce Springsteen's song 'My City of Ruins' and donate all proceeds to the relief effort?

here's his live version from the Kennedy Center Honors:

i think it's a very fitting song, and Ed's voice really soars on this song. it's a beautiful song and the content is very relevant.

what are everyone's thoughts on this?

EDIT:
THANK YOU SO MUCH 10C/PJ/ED/BRUCE FOR COMING THRU AND MAKING THIS AVAILABLE! :)

you can download it here:

  • I'd buy a copy of that even if the proceeds didn't go to Haiti. That would just be a bonus.

hahaha, thanks SOLAT319! i hear you're a legend around here so coming from you, that is an honor! ;)

i think it makes sense for this to be released. i must have listened to this song this past week and Bruce's original version a hundred times. plus, it's just so devastating what happened over in Haiti, and this song just really gives the situation that much more sadness/understanding. i dunno what i'm trying to say, but i think you all get it too.

i hope Bruce is on board too, he seemed to really like Eddie's version at the Kennedy Center Honor's benefit.

here's to hoping that this happens! and Tim does a fantastic job as head of 10c, so i wouldn't want to take his job ;)

Inspired idea and worthy of getting up the PJ corporate chain. I hope someone is paying attention to this...

  • How about like the Last Kiss single that raised money for Kosovo.

A side could be Ed studio version of My City of Ruins
B side could be live version of Ed w/ Bruce doing Betterman.

Nice idea, but I can't see a major artist like Bruce signing off on it unless he's the one doing the singing.

  • thanks everyone for the kind words! i do hope someone up there (and i don't mean up there, i mean on the 2nd floor of the 10c headquarters) is paying attention ;)

i have already sent Kat a private message about this, so i don't want to bug her anymore. i think giving it a little time is the best option. maybe they're sorting out the legal options, developing/launching an iTunes page for a 'digital 45' type of thing like they did with 'Just Breathe', and then they'd have to design a 10c Goods page... so who knows maybe they're already working on this?

these lyrics are so powerful and poignant to what is happening down in Haiti, and Ed really captures that spirit vocally and with his focused guitar playing. it definitely has the potential to raise a lot of money for relief efforts. so let's keep this thread going. strength in numbers they say...
