I saw Silver lInings Playbook tonight and there was one scene in it that was perfect for this thread. It takes place in philly so obvious the family, mainly the dad, are diehard Eagles fans, but they have one friend/neighbor who likes the Cowboys and I think the Giants as well (or he just hates the Eagles). Well anywho he was saying Dallas is America's team, blah blah blah. Later on the film he has on Giants gear as well :fp:

i didn't mean it like in the very next scene he was wearing a Giants shirt. I think he liked both the Cowboys and Giants or whomever was playing the Eagles I guess. During the movie he placed bets against them.

How about this one. What if your team(s) really suck, but your unfraudulent friends' team(s) do not, and they are nearing a title run. Are you supposed to sit by idly and watch your friends run around dorm rooms or bars or their houses doing stupid touchdown celebrations, homerun chants, goal screams, etc. or can you pick up and root hard for the team that would bring them the most miserable defeat? I'm not talking about that team being backup or anything just the team of the moment, a one-week stand as it were. I'm a proud fraud, and have found myself rooting for the likes of Rex Grossman, Dirk Nowitzki, Reggie Miller, the Vancouver Canucks, anyone the Patriots ever come across, and so on based on this behavioral choice. Thoughts?
You can root for anyone to win, but you can't buy their jerseys and gear and claim you are a fan. That's what makes the NCAA tourney so great. There is always a team to root for ... especially if gambling is involved.

I did the same fist pump that Peyton Manning did when Eli hit Plax for a TD in the Super Bowl.

yeah if your team is not in it but your friend's team is...there's no problem rooting against whoever is playing your friend's squad. unless, i guess, that team is one of your team's arch rivals, then you got some layers to deal with.

another thing you can do in that situation is put money on the other team just to make your rooting interest against his that much more intense.

i went to college with a bunch of people from north jersey so i found myself rooting for whoever was playing the giants, yankees, and knicks at the time. in hindsight, i guess it is no different than what i do now though.

in a way he does. He mainly says you are from philly but how can you root for the Cowboys or something like that. You'll def. like it. We saw it in the KOP theater which was really funny cause they mention the KOP mall in the movie. Also had some scenes in Delco like this one diner was in the movie, forget the name of it, The Landmark Diner :?:

Is that usually how it is for NY fans? I'd imagine the Yankees and Giants fans are also Knicks and Ranger fans?? Mets and Jets fans usually go with the Nets and Devils/Islanders?? Just a guess.
