  • A good opportunity to get above .500 today. I'm probably the only one but I still have faith in Z.

Maybe I'm delusional but this team ain't bad...

    Soriano... agreed.
Zambrano... He is getting more consistent over the years and is money on the road. I think he gets 15 wins and a 3 - 3.50 ERA.
Soto... he has more discipline this year at the plate... I think he has a decent year. Regardless, your catcher should not be the reason your team makes it to the playoffs or doesnt!
Fukudome... hopefully he puts it all together and is a decent #2 hitter. I haven't given up on him yet.
Bullpen? Marmol is money and the rest of the pen... yeah it sucks :)
Dempster, Lilly and Wells are all above-average pitchers.
Lee, Ramirez and Byrd should be a good 3/4/5 combo.
Piniella earns this team at least 5 wins.

They aren't great and won't give the Cardinals much worry in September, but this is a .500+ team. As a Cubs fan, what else do you want? ;)

I disagree with the way you look at Zambano. Consistent? He is the most inconsistent ACE in baseball. I heard some stats of his the other night (WGN radio..... Kaplan) Zambrano, since 2008 is FAR from being an ACE. Some of his stats are actually pretty fucking pathethic, considering he is the ACE of the staff, and making the gazillions he does.

I also disagree with the way you view Soto...

ANY/EVERY decent, solid, contending team, USUALLY, like 90% of the time, is strong down the middle. Both offensively and defensively. Your catcher needs to produce. Your second baseman and shortstop need to be solid, your centerfielder needs to take charge in the outfield. They ALL need to produce both offensively and defensively......

Soto was a bum last year....
The Cubs didnt have any type of production from 2nd base last year.....
Our centerfielder, Fukudome hit about .185 from the All-Star break on..........

And look what happened.....They missed the playoffs.....

  • I said Z is "getting more consistent" not that he "IS consistent." Especially on the road, he is money. At home, incredibly inconsistent.

Soto defensively is pretty good... up the middle... meh. Theriot has an okay range and an below average arm. Baker/Fontenot are average at best. I don't know about Byrd... I think he is pretty good defensively but could be wrong. Oh wait is he playing Center of is Fukudome? I should watch a game...

Fukudome... yes I am probably delusional but right now anyway I like him. Isn't he hitting over .400?

Yes, those stats hands down prove our ace is no ace. How many times the last couple years have we been at home with a chance to sweep and our "so called ace" on the hill and he lays an egg for us. We were going against MIL's worst starter, and our so called "ace" matches him with a 5th starter outing. Pathetic. Glad we took 2 of 3 but when you are at home and your ace is on the hill going for the sweep against there #5 you have to get it done. Besides Z the starters look good, the lineup seems to be doing better (especially when Soriano isn't in it) and Marmol has been lights out, the rest of the pen has been a complete disaster. Samardzija, your bus to Iowa is ready NOW!

Brewers can smack the ball around and with the win blowing out and a power pitcher on the mound.....it's always fun listening to Ron get worked up in a loss.

houston is the worst team in baseball. the only reason why the cubs will be a .500 team this yr is bc of the 'stros and pirates.

The Cubs will win the WS before that happens... Pujols is the greatest hitter of all time. You don't need 'roids when you can make solid contact on anything near the strike zone.
