Congrats to the Cubs and their fans. You just landed yourself an outstanding GM. Enjoy it.
PS I've met Theo on 3 different occasions and he's a very nice person. Loved talking Pearl Jam.

I don't think there should be high expectations for a few years but they are certainly headed in the right direction. That's a good front office.[/quote]
I hope people are realistic in that it will easily take 3-4 years to clean up Hendry's mess, and as long as we have a pile of feces playing LF for $18 mil a year we shouldn't expct much. I really hope they don't go crazy on free agents this year. I don't want Fielder or Pujlos. Not when they are gonna want 7 year deals, when they will probably only be worth a damn the first 3 or 4. Build up the farm system, play some kids and see what they can do. Hopefully they jell like Tampa's young nucleus did, and then in 3, 4, or 5 years spend big money on free agents to fill your holes. I'd much rather watch a 70-75 win team of young guys who are hungry and hustle, than a 70-75 win team filled of overpaid assholes (ramirez, soriano, zambrano) who are just collecting a check.

by the time i get called....the cubs might be good.
You are about 25000 spots ahead of me. Thankfully, my mom's husband has season tickets.
We had company tickets, but last was the end of the deal...doubt we have them next year. when my number comes up, if the cubs are good, i will buy and flip them to speedy
epstein presser at 11...but i already have the gist
He'll say how much he'll miss Boston, but that he's happy to come here. And that he'll do his best to help build a championship team here in the windy city. And that he wasn't aware of what happened in the dugout with all the drinking. Yada, yada, yada... You know the usual.

i wonder if speedy will be back in time to change the thread title for next season, or will we be stuck on 1908 forever :P
Sad to say but today might be the best day of my life as far as being a cubs fan. I'm loving what Theo is preaching. It starts with building up the farm system. There is a time to spend big on free agents and that time is certainly not right now (no need for Prince and Albert). I also like how he said guys have primes from 26-32ish, which is exactly why you don't overspend on Albert. Someone will waste a lot of money on him.

everyone around here is anointing Epstein as St. Theo around here. I say only a Hebrew Saint can become the Messiah for the most hapless franchise in sports history.
