have owned this since new  just broke the seal its been a cardinal sin not to have spun this before now..its amazing on wax so much more depth im going to play frisbee with the cd now
it's about time you opened it!!! go buy Sea of Cowards now & spin that as well!
   also got still not opened
Does anyone here convert their vinyl for their iPod's and stuff. I have been looking into it. I want to start, but also want to make sure my conversions are done right. Let me know if you do and how you do the conversions.
but it started with lots of crackel and noise..so thought bugger it im cleaning it with baby wet wipes as they were in the same room.
i could not be bothered to go kitchen wash it in warm water ,dry it ,leave it for 4 hours before spinning
so i wiped it over with the baby wipe..quick dry with good cloth..spun it
only a tiny amount of unwanted noise..
baby wipes are the way forward
Might try it with some 'spare' records. Tho didn't lisa warn us off this??
I do like graceland! Might have to listen to that later.
Found a cool charity shop today which had a list of records behind the counter. I got led zep iv and houses of the holy (again!) And left some for another time maybe. They had loads of beatles that I already have, green by rem, and a quadraphonic copy of wish you were here - which I have absolutely zero use for!
I was comparing my various copies of the doors debut earlier, and by far the best was the mono early pressing I got from my friend's dad, and cleaned up. I definitely like persevering with a few different copies and pressings of great albums, it is worth it when you find a favourite

Anybody ever listened to any quadrophonic albums? I forgot that Floyd did this, til I got a Mahavishnu Orchestra mixed in quad. One side of the record sleeve was an ad for quadrophonic stereo equipment, one side for various records. Do you miss anything(besides the obvious) playing a quadrophonic record in stereo?
Haven't been to the record store for awhile, but I'm goin today to get the new Wilco. Any good/good sounding recent albums that I may have missed?

For a STEAL at a Winnipeg record shop. He had no other Pearl Jam vinyl, and no interest in keeping it. I made him an offer, and he took it. He did have a No Code promo poster for sale for cheap as well.

As far as I can remember, a Quadraphonic record would play exactly the same as the usual stereo version, if playing with a normal setup - but the Quadrophonic setup would pick up the extras. I should probably look it up.
Shite - I just looked at how much these records go for on ebay. I think I might have to go back and pick this record up tomorrow, and sell it! Jeez (edit, having looked a bit further, they don't all seem to go for so much... dammit, I thought my ship had come in!)
On the recent releases front - I am not the man to ask about this currently, since I am still within my 'deep exploration of the wonders of 1960s and 1970s analogue recordings'' phase - which has lasted about 12 months so far. I only listen to classic rock . I listen to most of my 'modern' music on MP3.

Was looking around on the web earlier, and you can find the original vinyl Quadraphonic mix that people have ripped to digital. I don't quite know how this works, or what this means, but I remember reading somewhere a while back that you can play Quadraphonic albums on CD quadraphonically by use of a particular Dolby setting (SQ / ST?), making no other adjustments.
Edit - check this out - DVD and CD ripped from the vinyl

If that DSOTM has a 30th Anniversary sticker on the outer packaging keep a rag handy.
And BTW is a great choice. Love that album and it's solid on vinyl.
Oh yeah, snagged Wilco-The Whole Love an what looks and smells like an early pressing of Blind Faith w/different artwork from the standard child porn version, which sounds really good.

I really love Oxfam - although the records can be overpriced compared to other charity shops, their 'Books and Music' shops are fucking everywhere, and what this means is that there is great vinyl to be found in every town and practically on every high street in the UK. This year I'm sure I've bought enough records from them to end world famine for the next twenty years
Today I had to drive out to get a new turntable belt, stopped for a coffee - spotted an Oxfam Books and Music across the road, and had to have a rummage. My luck was in - they had someone's entire Van Morrison collection in there - pretty much everything he produced from the 60s right up to the mid 80s. I picked up my two 'missing' 1970s Van records - have never come across these on record before. I have them both on CD, and never really got into either of them - so I'm looking to see if the vinyl will work it's magic - they are both quite praised within his catalogue.
I passed on a copy of Rust Never Sleeps - it didn't look good enough condition for the price they were asking.

He was asking $90, I offered $75. I'm a cheap bastard. Came back to almost $90 after tax. Ugh.
The poster? I think it was $15. Not sure. Too busy prancing out of the store, holding the record over my head like a fruit-loop to notice.
