Looks like the Mariners have jumped into the bidding for Ibanez.

I'd like to see Dickerson get a shot at the 4th spot

I would have liked to see Swisher back but he got a lot of money from the Indi ans for how he produced in playoff situations and Ibanez certainly wasn't overpaid by the Mariners so that one I'm a little baffled about.

  • gladly take the pick from the Indians, hopefully they make it a good one for a change. Sounds to me like Ibanez just wanted to return to Seattle. Not sure if he makes his offseason home there or still has a home there

Wow i actually feel the pain of a Yankee fan.
Youk was my dad's favorite player and i informed him that he could never wear his Youk shirt ever again now.
For Christmas I bought my dad a Middlebrook's shirt.

I never liked Youk. Guy was a great baseball player but locker room poison. Good riddance.

a quote from an espn article:

in the lowest point in franchise history since Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson exchanged wives, saw their starting catcher sign with the Pirates.

Not much a starting catcher anymore. Subpar defensively and subpar offensively. I personally am glad to see him go.

I don't think what the team seems to be planning of going into next season with gives them anymore or any less of what Martin gave them.

Happy Birthday Mr. Cone. Can't believe how slow this off season is in that we have to resort to wishing ex-Yankees happy birthday. :fp:

The Yankees will be lucky to get 5 home runs out of their catcher as it stands right now. Add in Ichiro replacing Swisher and Gardner in right, you are going to get your wish of no home runs. Thats like 60 home runs last year compared to 15 or so next year, out of three lineup spots.

You never know what Ichiro can do as I've read reports he is one hell of a homerun hitter when he wants to be. Maybe he'll get pull happy too at the Stadium.

That'd be nice...I heard that about Wade Boggs too...he could hit like crazy for average and usually hit about 5 homers/year...then one year he decides to hit 24 dingers. But I think Ichiro's success is in the spray hitting maybe.

Where there's smoke there's fire maybe?

"The talk of the Yankees swinging a trade for Giancarlo Stanton was inevitable, but it's not likely for a number of reasons, writes Chad Jennings of The Journal News. For starters, the Marlins' willingness to talk doesn't signal that they're looking to give Stanton away for chump change. The Yankees also might not be able to afford the kind of prospect dump that such a deal would require".
