good to see pineda hitting 88 on the gun ...

Didn't watch game but they said he was 90-92 most of the day occasionally hitting 93-94 which was the same as his last start. I'm not worried yet it's still early, his numbers have been pretty good this spring and the addition of the change up is bigger than the velocity right now.

This is back in 2006, after the Yankees lost to Detroit in the playoffs, when Conan was on "Late Night". Pretty funny, especially the end.

Any slim hopes of seeing a 2nd-generation Mattingly one day play for the Yankees ended today. The team released Preston Mattingly.

Hughes will be in the rotation according to the Daily News. Nova, Pineda, and Garcia for the final 2 spots.

Joba's kid's line to the nurse in the hospital who asked what happened was classic: "My dad got hosed by a trampoline."

Yeah, I found that pretty funny. Also sounds like he plans on getting back this year. We'll see.

    Fingers crossed for Grandersons MRI.

Hard to believe Pineda has to fight for a rotation spot. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. :?

I can't imagine he really is. Probably smokescreens by the team to make him play better and know nothing's handed to him on this team.
  • it might be a combination of both. remember Pineda was kind ahead of schedule, he was two years removed from High A ball last year. But I'd be stunned if he's in the minors on opening day.

The Meriden Record-Journal reported that Southington native and Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano was the victim of an alleged extortion plot by a former classmate at Southington High School. The Record-Journal, citing a search warrant, reported that Pavano's family said Christian Bedard, 36, of Southington, demanded money and a luxury SUV from Pavano or he would reveal personal information about Pavano.

Swisher's healing well from his latest groin strain (4-8, 1 HR in 10 plate appearnces in a minor league game yesterday--I guess they just kept sending him up in every inning regardless of the lineup to get him some ABs) and Granderson's MRI came back ok but Austin Romine is still ahving back problems and it may turn out to be a disk problem because it's now being described as a pinch instead of soreness.

Speaking of pitchers who cost the team a lot of money for very little production, Kei Igawa had to give up his dream of making it back to the majors and signed with a Japanese team. He told reporters that he had hoped to keep playing in America. Considering that he's 32 and split last year between AA and AAA and had a combined ERA of 3.86--and that was his first minor league season since 2008 with an ERA under 4.00, but it was still over 4.00 in AA last year--it's really not a shock that nobody in MLB wanted to sign him. A mediocre 32-year-old minor-leaguer isn't exactly a hot commodity.

Pavano was a gutless piece of shit, it's ridiculous to compare the two.

Agreed, bronx. The ny mentality when it comes to things like this makes no fucking sense. He has yet to throw one meaningful inning and has a sore shoulder and people are declaring him a bust. Come on.

Dl for Pineda. Inflammation which I would assume means there is not structural. I would imagine a lot of this has to do with him not working much this offseason.

Sounds like food news though, right?
